trying to get advice on what to do with a stamp set I just got (Very Punny). I had already mounted and then realized I should have separated the sentiments.
In my thread I asked for suggestions on how to un/remount. Someone mentioned that stamping the sentiments back with the image is never as easy (must take the time to use a stampamajig or carefully realign).
Then another mentioned a solution- get the set again and mount them w/o the sentiment.
SO--- long winded--- SO- my question is-- how many of you out there have 2 sets like this? (where the sentiments are mounted with the image and without) DO YOU actually use both sets? Am I INSANE to be considering this?
LOL - You know i didn't think about seperating them either and funny you said that because i was just thinking no biggy i will just order another set and do it with that one...

I found you can unmont by placing the stamp in the microwave for a minute and it will peal off. Then you can trim and remount. They should stick but if you need to restick put on some rubber cement. Be careful taking the wood out of the microwave it can get hot and also if your microwave is low wattage then you might have to have it in a little longer. Hope that helps.
In my opinion, unless you have money to burn, I wouldnt buy a second set ... I would do the microwave trick and cut the words out and put them on the side ... if you do have money to burn, then I say GO FOR IT!!!!

I wouldn't buy two sets. If the sentiment/words have a critical placement, I might not cut them apart. For example, I bought Gently Falling. I think it would be hard to accurately line up the long text so that it always centered under the image, so I didn't cut those apart. But for most sentiments, and especially Very Punny, I don't think word placement is that critical - so, I would definately cut the words away from the image!
OK, but Very Punny is a FREE set! So I guess, the question is more, are there any other Sellabration sets you'd miss out on if you got another Very Punny?
I have heard of people who have done this. The most recent one is with the French Flair background stamp. The SCS-r wanted the option of using the stamp without birds, but didn't want to keep messing around with masking, etc. So she bought two, and surgically removed the birds on one.
Since I was the one that posted getting another set, I think if you have the option and the ability on a FREE set, I would definately go for it. Very Punny is super versatile, and gosh aren't those sayings just adorable!! LOL. If you don't have the money, I wouldn't bother cutting it apart, just a pain to line up again, lol!

I cut mine apart, telling myself "If I wreck it, I can always get another one!" But now I'm glad it's apart. I'm a lazy stamper--if I have to mask it or marker all the time, I'm not going to use it. It's not that hard to line this one up, I don't think. But it's entirely a personal preference.
I just color with the stampin up markers. Works great if you only want to color in part of the stamp. You will not need a second set, and you won't have to cut them apart.
Use a marker or ink pad to color the image that you want stamped

I am with Terri. Since you already have them mounted, I would just use a marker to color in what you want stamped or just carefully ink up the only part that you want stamped. That is what I do too. Good Luck!
I do...I actually did that with Heartfelt Thanks and the stems. I had a large Stamp Camp and needed two sets anyway. One I mounted with the stems attached, the other I mounted with them cut separately!
Yes...I've done the same with Very Punny and Greetings Galore.
I almost bough two Word By Word backgrounds, one to keep intact and one to separate, but I found I wasn't using the entire background very often so just last night I cut it into individual words.

Here's a hint that really helps using your stamp and eliminating the sentiment. I use a small piece of scotch tape and attach over the senitment and ink up the stamp. Then I remove the tape and stamp my image on paper. You can do the same thing in reverse if you just want to use your sentiment and not stamp the object.

I've done what Kittie says before, but if you really wanted them apart, I would just use an exacto knife. I've re-trimmed sets I've gotten off of eBay with an exacto while they are still on the block, and I have no problems. I have a set of exacto knives with all sorts of different blades. One is just a straight flat one that I can just "push down" into the block to cut off parts. A friend who is a demo let her cousin's girlfriend stay at their house while they were away on vacation and a HUGE SU! order came. She thought she was being helpful by mounting her stamps for her, but she's a new stamper, so she really doesn't have the experience, and did a LOT of things incorrectly (involving the Big Deal Alpha) but I was able to fix everything for her with an exacto. I did have to remove a few letter stickers from the blocks because she placed them incorrectly, but it's amazing what you can do when the stamp it already stuck down!

On Very Punny- do you think that you will use both sets or did you just get 2 since it was Sellabration?

I had thought this might be the best idea for separating since someone had mentioned the words are close to the image. Did you microwave them at all, or just tear the words off?
Personally, I would just leave them as is. It doesn't take that much extra to use a marker or a pad to ink up the part you want. Yes, it is a FREE set, but to get it FREE you still have to spend another $50. I would much rather get a different set if I am going to spend another $50 on an order. The only SAB set I would double up on would be the scrappin' kit.
I wouldn't get two sets either. IMO the stampamajig is pretty quick and easy to use. I keep mine on my desk because I use it so much (I'm pretty picky about placement).
I love your avatar and quote. My husband and I have always been big Chloe fans, but after the last season... we just can't wait to see her again on 24!
Thanks everyone for your advice. I think I will leave everything as it is now, and then if I find I never use Very Punny, try separating it to see if I use it more. This solution is FREE and requires NO TIME. Works for me
There are sooo many stamps I want and never get, I'd have a hard time justifying the $$ for buying two of the same set. I think that just might tip the balance for my DH!! LOL

I'm a demo and I already have all the sets and will be getting several duplicates. The first duplicate will be the Scrappin' Kit, but I *am* thinking about getting an extra Very Punny. I mounted the stamps with the sentiments attached, but after seeing a neat card with about 10 cows w/o the sentiment, and ONE with, I unmounted and separated about half the sentiments from the animals.
