Origami Tote using 12x12 paper - no cutting, just folding
Here is a template for an origami box/tote that uses 12x12 designer paper without any cutting, just folding (pdf file is at bottom of the post). If you have never tried this before, I would suggest that you try it out on some designer paper that you don't like. There is a lot of folding, but with practice you will get the hang of it. Just think of the possibilities using this template.
Here are some samples I made (pictures attached below):
Ugh, thats the origami version. I tried it several time and hated it, always messed up and my paper ended up in a ball in the circular file...so I made up my own. Its super simple-thats all I can handle . I can make one in a few seconds - I just made one last night for a gift exchange and it is the perfect size for a gift card. I'm not good with computers but I will try and attach the file. Excuse the ink on my hands-I get into my work! Have fun! Shirley
Hi Shirley, I agree with your frustration...I was a little intimidated when I saw the instructions too. I used some patterned paper I knew I wouldn't use and had a try at it. It took a couple of folds to make it right. But I finally got it! At least, it looked like a tote/purse/baggie anyway. Go to KarrieLyne's gallery to see a sample of this...she made the most adorable tote with matching cards!

They ARE very cute, and I love the flat sides (mine are accordian)...I wish I could figure it out. Maybe I'll spend some time on it while the twins are at preschool...its hard to fold paper when kids are are tugging at you or the paper. I think I'll use paper I don't like for practice this time though, just in case.
Hi Shirley: It definitely takes A LOT of PATIENCE and PRACTICE!!! I tried mine on patterned I did care much for so I wouldn't feel bad if it didn't turn out!!! I tried it when my two young rugrats were napping so I could concentrate...otherwise, I just wait till they go to bed for the night. Good Luck!!!

I just made two of these!!! They turned out so cute. I really needed something quick with no cutting and this worked perfect Thanks so much for sharing!!

these are both very nice girls when i read 12x12 i was thinking that was the finished size:rolleyes: just think of the size of paper you'd have to start with:p
Does anyone know the finished dimensions of this tote? Greatly appreciative! --Julie
Boy, I am glad many of you are using this template.
Tupperwife: The dimensions are approx. 4.5 inches wide by 4 inches tall. It can probably fit about 4-6 cards with envies depending on how thick the cards are. But, of course, you can put other things in the box other than just cards.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for this. I have seen this posted several times on different people's blogs and have never been able to print it out correctly because it is too big. I don't know how to correct this. So a huge thanks for however you minimized this to fit on my paper
For those of you who have been looking for the instructions to the 12x12 tote/purse that requires no cutting, just folding. I have not tried to make one yet, but thought I would post the instructions for those of you want to have a go at it...

If you are unable to open the file, just right click on file and choose "Save Target As" and then "Save".
