Smile Origami Tote using 12x12 paper - no cutting, just folding

Here is a template for an origami box/tote that uses 12x12 designer paper without any cutting, just folding (pdf file is at bottom of the post). If you have never tried this before, I would suggest that you try it out on some designer paper that you don't like. There is a lot of folding, but with practice you will get the hang of it. Just think of the possibilities using this template.

Here are some samples I made (pictures attached below):

Clams...the other white meat gift set #1 by a1r601 at Splitcoaststampers

Hibiscus Hawaiian card gift set #2 by a1r601 at Splitcoaststampers

NOTE: I was able to fit 6 cards/envies in the box. The dimensions are approx. 4.5 inches wide by 4 inches tall.

Another sample made by KarrieLyne: 12 x 12 Folded Bag by KarrieLyne at Splitcoaststampers (she added more bling and a topper to her bag)

There is another template you can use in post #6 by StampinShirley.

If you are unable to open the file, just right click on file and choose "Save Target As" and then "Save".

Default Simple Shirley Sack

Ugh, thats the origami version. I tried it several time and hated it, always messed up and my paper ended up in a ball in the circular file...so I made up my own. Its super simple-thats all I can handle . I can make one in a few seconds - I just made one last night for a gift exchange and it is the perfect size for a gift card. I'm not good with computers but I will try and attach the file. Excuse the ink on my hands-I get into my work! Have fun! Shirley

Hi Shirley, I agree with your frustration...I was a little intimidated when I saw the instructions too. I used some patterned paper I knew I wouldn't use and had a try at it. It took a couple of folds to make it right. But I finally got it! At least, it looked like a tote/purse/baggie anyway. Go to KarrieLyne's gallery to see a sample of this...she made the most adorable tote with matching cards!

Thanks for sharing your template with us. I will have to try yours out - simple is always good.

Default They are very cute

They ARE very cute, and I love the flat sides (mine are accordian)...I wish I could figure it out. Maybe I'll spend some time on it while the twins are at preschool...its hard to fold paper when kids are are tugging at you or the paper. I think I'll use paper I don't like for practice this time though, just in case.

Hi Shirley: It definitely takes A LOT of PATIENCE and PRACTICE!!! I tried mine on patterned I did care much for so I wouldn't feel bad if it didn't turn out!!! I tried it when my two young rugrats were napping so I could concentrate...otherwise, I just wait till they go to bed for the night. Good Luck!!!

Alma, this is outstanding. So glad to meet another crafter who's visual and not able to follow directions. This is one great tutorial! I do believe even I can make one of these!

Boy, I am glad many of you are using this template.

Tupperwife: The dimensions are approx. 4.5 inches wide by 4 inches tall. It can probably fit about 4-6 cards with envies depending on how thick the cards are. But, of course, you can put other things in the box other than just cards.

Here is a great sample of the box made by KarrieLyne: 12 x 12 Folded Bag by KarrieLyne at Splitcoaststampers

She added a topper so the box looks taller.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for this. I have seen this posted several times on different people's blogs and have never been able to print it out correctly because it is too big. I don't know how to correct this. So a huge thanks for however you minimized this to fit on my paper
