SWAPPED AND IN THE MAIL!! HAT PIN/CORSAGE PIN EMBELLISHMENT SWAP--DUE AUGUST 10, 2011
HAT PIN/CORSAGE PIN EMBELLISHMENT SWAP
DUE AUGUST 10, 2011
Have you seen the beautiful hat pins and corsage pins that are adorning cards and scrapbooks everywhere???? I certainly have. There are beautiful pre-made ones and wonderful handmade ones. Don't you just love them??
If you do, then this is the swap for you! I would like to give you the chance to make your own Pin embellishments. I am including links to instructions, places to buy the pins, and even the SCS gallery that highlights cards with Pin embellishments. Here they are so you can get an idea of what I'm talking about.
Many of you also know that I have been battling illness this past year, but I've gotten a clean bill of health so no problems there. I also have the wedding plans to deal with, but most of it's already taken care of, so it shouldn't be a problem. I promise to be a cheerful hostess and give out prizes as we go along. So I hope you'll join me as I host this swap and plan my sweet DD's wedding! Here are the details:
Prizes will be awarded to the first 10 swappers to sign up!!!!
Quantity: 5+1(the plus one is for the hostess...that's me!!)
You will make 6 pins in total and receive 5 back.
You will not get one of your own back, so make sure to make an extra one for yourself!
Description requirement: You may use either the longer hat pins or the shorter corsage pins. The corsage pins usually have a bead or pearl already in place at the top which may help you get started. You can use the links I've posted to purchase your pins or find your own at any hobby store--florists would be a good resource for corsage pins too.
Be creative. Use colors and beads that you love. You should be able to find inexpensive glass beads online or at any craft store. Look in the jewelry and bead findings depts in your local stores. You should also be able to find earring backs to use to keep the sharp ends of the pins from poking you, but they are not necessary.
Vendor products: No vendor product restriction whatsoever. Just make beautiful pins that you would want to receive. If you have problems finding the items you need, let me know and I'll be glad to help.
It's not necessary to cover the entire pin with beads as in one of the links above--usually just the top portion is covered with a small crimping bead at the end of the beads to keep them from moving.
Everyone is welcome. If you've never participated in a swap before, take the plunge. It will be fun!!!! Don't feel like you 'can't' participate because you've never swapped before. We welcome everyone!!!!! I've only made a few of these myself so don't be intimidated by the process.
Sign up for as many spots as you'd like, but please, make a different pin design for each spot you take.
My goal is to post all pins in the Gallery and would appreciate if you could stop by and leave comments for your fellow swappers. Make sure to include your name on a sticky note wrapped around each pin so we will know who the wonderful artist is.
I am new to this embellishment as well, so if you find or know of additional resources for everyone, please feel free to post them and share them with all of us.
Deadline: In my hands by August 10, 2011 and I will have them postal within 10 days of the due date. Pins not received by then will regrettably be returned to sender as not to hold up the swap. I promise to have them returned to you promptly.
You must check in 2 weeks before the due date and let me know you are still in the swap. If you need to drop out that is fine. Believe me, I know life happens, but I don't have the time to PM 20 people a few times to see if you are still in the swap. Thank you. You must also check in after the swap and let us know you received your swap back.
Mailing Instructions and return postage: U]Mailing: [/U]Put your pins wrapped in tissue paper or some type of filler to protec them in a zip lock bag with the swap name, your real name, and your SCS name. Please send a self addressed stamped envelope with the same postage as it took to send to me plus two extra stamps just in case they are needed. I will return them if they are not needed. I would suggest using bubble envies so that the beads are not harmed in transit. Thanks!
DO NOT send metered postage as we all know they only work for day of purchase!! If you would rather use Priority mail, please include one $4.95 priority stamp and a self-addressed priority label. I will provide priority envelope. If you are mailing from Canada please include $4 US to cover return postage, and I will return whatever is left to you.
All return mail will be sent via First Class unless you request (and provide for) otherwise. NO METERED POSTAGE PLEASE.
Please don’t hesitate to post questions to this thread. I welcome all advice. I also welcome all swappers to post messages and make friends during the swap. SCS is a wonderful extended family and I hope you will take advantage of this swap to get to know new people!
Thanks for joining!!
I will add additional spots as needed.

Yeah, Lauren is here!!! Since I really got this idea from all the hats I'm seeing on the telly for Will and Kate's wedding, perhaps we can come up with some English royal trivia every once in a while! Goodness knows I can't turn on the tv without hearing more about how they met, where they went to school, how they broke up and got back together!!! You would think they were royalty or something!!! LOL!
Hi Sam, sign me up for 1 spot, please. Looked at a few You Tubes...these are awesome. Glad it is not due until August.
Thanks!
Betty
Hi Betty!! Glad to have you!! I love these little pins--i just want more and more ideas. They had such a nice 3-D effect with no too much effort!!!
Thanks!
Hi Lauren...how are you doing downunder there...Nice to see you here too! This is going to be a fun swap...I need to stay off of SCS (yeah, right), I'm getting myself in trouble. LOL!

Chantal! I'm so glad you're here!! I don't think we've 'met' on SCS before. I love making new friends and keeping the old--isn't that a song???? LOL!!!
Don't let Lauren and Joan and all the other ladies scare you away. (actually they can be a little crazy but i try not to notice! LOL!
Can you tell we're all good friends!! So glad you're joining our group. Give us a few days and follow the links in our siggys and we'll have you signed up for billions of swaps !! LOL!
Good evening, Chantal and Angie, I'm the quiet demure swapper in this swap and a few other swaps. Sam, always try to talk me into joing her swaps and other swaps.
So, as you can tell, I'm so happy, you will be a part of SAM's swap.
I have seen a lot of photos of cards using these hatpins and they are very pretty, but it always bothered me when I saw the pins with nothing on the sharp ends. I could not imagine giving a card like that to anyone. I just checked out some more photos in the SCS gallery and I really want to make some. I hope I can find the pins and the protective end coverings here in my city.
Please sign me up for 2 spots. We are only making pins, right? not cards? (In the mailing instructions you mention mailing cards.)

I'll fix the directions. I was cutting and pasting things. So Yes, this is just for the pins.
I agree with the sharp points. But if you have a Michaels, Joanns, or HL they will have earring backs in the jewelry findings sections. Very inexpensive. They work great. Or if you order the Hat pins from the link at the top, they already have a protective end covering. You may be able to find them at other places too. I just posted a few.
I can't believe, I signed up for this swap, I'm going to make Hat pins for my cards.
Joan
rotflol!!!!! Yes you did and you will!!!! You can do anything! You are the Mighty Joan--Female Conquerer of new adventures!!! Oh excuse me, you the quiet demure Joan--Female Conquerer of new adventures!! LOL!!!!
hey Joan i know I cant wait to make these I got some in a birthday swap but only had the top piece on it. So i cant wait to make my own, need to go to the store to get some beads and pins.
Hello All!!! I am very happy to meet all of you! This will be my fifth swap (Jeri is hosting my first and the others are works in progress!!!!)
I have some beautiful beads I was thinking about giving away, so it's a good thing I hadn't yet! I have some really cute turtles I might be able to integrate as well... The ideas are stirring!!!!
I wonder if a fabric store might have some hatpins? I will check Michael's and I will keep looking around but if I can't find any I think I will try to order some from Joann's.
I'm hosting one of the Challenges for the next VSBN, so I hope some of you will be checking that out!!!
Okay ladies......you HAVE to stop luring me into all these swaps!!! I mean seriously......I have a life you know. Oh wait, no I don't. Drat! I wonder what a life would be like??
Sam, sign me up for two spots. At this rate I'll have to quit my job just so I can get all my swaps done!! I've made some jewellery before so I'm hoping this won't be too much of a stretch! See you ladies in the land of swaps. )
