POSTAL - In My Fairy Garden

Fairy Gardens are all the rage, so I decided to host a swap to challenge your creativity in making fairy garden items!

For this swap, you will make 4 of a fairy garden item (such as furniture, arched gateways, ladders, etc.) and you must create tags with a fairy theme also to accompany each item (after all, this is a paper crafting site!). As fairy gardens may be indoors or out, keep that in mind so that the items will endure that a bit too -- i.e. not paper flowers or paper mache please.

Although fairies vary in size apparently as I have seen items made very tiny to almost doll size, for this swap, assume your fairy items are about dollhouse furniture size.

You will make 4 of the item (try to keep them pretty much the same) and get 3 back.

When you are ready to mail, please PM me for my current address. Package items carefully so as not to break in shipping and ensure you send enough postage to get items returned that may weigh a little more than yours too. Include a self-addressed mailing label as well please. I will return any extra postage.

Limit of two spots each until we have more than ten please!

Who else wants to create or expand your fairy garden?

Are these to be made to go outside or can we use paper flowers and such for decoration?

StampinGoodDeeds 07-26-2013 05:15 PM

Well, I have seen both indoor and outdoor fairy gardens, but even indoor ones are around plants in a garden so I would say try not to use paper ones or things that wouldn't do well in a plant area due to moisture, but you could use the silk/fabric ones probably!

Sign me up - 2 spots please!

StampinGoodDeeds 07-27-2013 06:28 PM

You got 'em! Can't wait to see what you create!
I bought some things today to start on mine!

StampinGoodDeeds 07-29-2013 08:03 AM

I started this weekend on mine! I am working on some mini garden trellis/gateways. I also have some mirrors to make little fairy mirrors. And some mini easels with small canvases and hope to create little brushes/palettes to go with them.

Help spread the word on this one to see if we can get more swappers!

StampinGoodDeeds 07-30-2013 07:25 AM

Now I KNOW we have more fairy lovers on SCS than this! Come out and play, fairy swappers!!!

StampinGoodDeeds 07-31-2013 11:33 AM

Pass on the word about this swap! :)

monicas silcott 07-31-2013 01:45 PM

Hey Susan, I just added it to my signature. Hopefully folks on other swaps I've joined will come over.

StampinGoodDeeds 07-31-2013 02:30 PM

Sounds great, Monica! I think it will be fun. I started creating this past weekend and saw some great garden ideas too!

StampinGoodDeeds 08-01-2013 02:13 PM

I think a door would be fine, similar to how a trellis or archway would be!

Are you in then? :)

Tag size is up to you and just to put on it with your name as to who made it! :)

Yes, lots of ideas... but fake rocks are lightweight... :)

The mirrors... still working on them... split the compact into two, and adding embellishments around them to create the border/frame, will put a string or chain on back to 'hang' it too. :)

Tiles make cute tables too. :)
and if you look at tile pieces you can get all sorts of inspiration.
Restores has lots of pieces and odds and ends to inspire...
Thinking: What can I do with crystal chandelier pieces too?

ellesart 08-02-2013 05:08 AM

Okay, I give in. Please give me a spot. After doing the button fairy swap I got into the whole fairy thing. I used on of my button fairies to embellish a lamp shade - it looks really cute hanging from the top edge of the shade (just bend the wire on the back to hook over the edge). I'll check out all the links you provided and come up with something fun.

You can do a combination of things too, like a mini kit of minis. :) Just need to have something in it still be handcrafted too of course! It may be embellishing something, like I added embellishments to the mirrors to make fairy mirrors; or cushioned chairs made from boxes/tins/votives, etc.; or twig furniture or mini quilts; or I bought mini easels already made at Michaels with little canvases that I am going to work on and try to also have mini brushes/palettes in those...

Get CREATING, GIRL!!!

I have to stop myself because I keep finding more things!!

ellesart 08-05-2013 10:03 AM

I have been looking on pinterest and etsy and there are SO many ideas. One question came to mind - do we need to worry about scale? Dollhouse scale 1/12 is really tiny so I don't think we want to go that small. I saw a fairy house made from a large pinecone that caught my eye. Also, I was thinking about DH's beer caps - the screw on Coors screw on caps to make a bucket with a wire handle and filled with apples. Too small/big? Haven't decided yet, but the ideas are everywhere.

so it's pretty much free rein....so I can do a banner, that I make, and add little sticks that you can use to hang it in your fairy garden....oh and my banners will be made of cloth...that way they can get wet :) then I could also do an umbrella with maybe a little towel or blankie I make...oh gosh...this could get very addicting quickly!!! and each one is a spot right??

LOVE that idea with the bucket made from a cap!! OMG...now I'm looking at things to repurpose around the house....very addicting!! I need to spread the word on this one!!

They sound like awesome ideas to me. I have seen many sizes so I think I will leave that up to each of the participants. ;)

I have to warn you... These are addicting to make!
I have 3 spots done and still have my mini easel sets to do. And I found little votives to make stools. I go for walks along the river and my mind gets going on ideas...

StampinGoodDeeds 08-06-2013 07:36 AM

Oh its scary how these swaps change the way you look at things... bottle tops no longer go unnoticed... paper clips are now wall decor hangers...

ellesart 08-06-2013 12:53 PM

Yes, this can become addicting. I have been searching the recycle bin for other ideas - how about mushrooms made from a cut down wine cork with a regular bottle cap painted red with white spots? I have a feeling I may need a couple more spots.
