In my Internet craft wanderings, I came across a link which had some great art "quilt" squares, so I decided to host something similar here!
DESCRIPTION/REQUIREMENTS:
This is for 5"x5" art "quilt" squares... your 5"x5" base must be a piece of fabric, and items must be stitched to the fabric so they are well-attached. (May be hand or machine sewn but must be neat and well-attached. NOTE: I am okay with you glueing on items or using stitch-witch to adhere items to the quilt square, but please do them in advance and make sure they stay on permanently before sending them to me. I noticed one site said to glue cardstock to the back of solid items before then gluing to the fabric for stability and to adhere better.) (Items that fall apart easy will have to be returned unswapped.)
Edges do NOT have to be finished.
Squares do NOT have to be quilted or have batting/backing. Each recipient can then decide how to put them together and finish it themselves.
Each group has a base color that must be included in the item as well to 'coordinate' the squares. The items stitched on can be paper, fabric, plastic, etc. (This is not designed to be washed.) You must have something stamped somewhere on each square, and some type of embellishment (charms, ribbons, fibers, lace, buttons, etc.).
You must leave 1/2" around the edges un-decorated for seam allowance for the recipient to finish. So you have a 5"x5" fabric base, but are really only decorating the 4" square center of that. (Its okay if the lace or other fabric is there to the edge, but nothing that would interfere with stitching them together such as hard embellishments, plastic or paper, etc.
A chance to really release your artistic muse side here.
DUE DATE: 4/30/2010
Quantity: 4+1. They do not all have to be exactly the same.
The goal is that they will make an artistic wall "quilt" afterwards.
I've started out with themed groups. You may sign up for more than one group if you like, and if we have enough participants, you are welcome to sign up for more than one spot in each group (remember you would need 5 people signed up for every spot you get so that you don't get your own back).
Please remember to keep it clean and tasteful, nothing offensive or nude, etc.
Mailing requirements: Please be sure to enclose a self-addressed mailing label or envelope, and the same amount of postage you needed to mail to me plus two extra stamps (I’ll return any extra). I recommend getting a delivery confirmation (DC) number at least to track your items also. If you want me to also get DC on the return, please be sure to include a note on that with your postage and enough extra to cover it.
When you are ready to send, please PM me for my address.

If we have enough interest in another category (i.e. 3+), I will add.
I would love 2 spots in group one if possible, definitely one spot. I just have one question, is the piece we send six inches square - 5 inches with an extra 1/2 inch border or are we working within the center 4 inches of a 5 inch square leaving a 1/2 border? I hope you understand my question.
I'll put you in for the two spots as I think we'll get enough for this one!
5"x5" is the whole piece including the seam, so you are working only in the 4" square center really.

LADIES: I had listed this as items must be sewn on (machine or hand), but how do you feel if they are stitch-witched on and not sewn? What about fabric glues? Just wanting to check with others before I change anything on here.

A picture of me, yuck, yuck, yuck. Anyway, back to the important elements of this post. I've been in deep thought about, I REALLY want to do this swap, so, I can use cross stitch fabric, I do cross stitch.
So, I would like a spot, I want to try Creative Women, can it be a group of women dancing.?
I just happened upon that other website (in the main thread) and thought what a great idea! Looking forward to you joining (you KNOW you want to... )
Oh, I *DO* want to! And I just saw that they're not due until the end of April, so sign me up for a spot in group 2! And what do you mean by "Creative Women" in Group 1?
Absolutely! That is definitely stitched -- Remember to stamp somewhere on it and add an embellishment in the stitching perhaps!

Anything to do with crafting/creativity. Since we are all such creative women, just thought it would go well! Could be quotes, could be dancing women, could be scrapbooking or stamping females. Any of those!
Let me know if you want a spot in that too. Can't wait to see your travel one too!

Alright! I'll look around and see what I can find before taking a spot in that one. Thanks, Susan!
Oh, you know you will come up with something, you are so creative!!!
I just went to an arts store in Winchester, VA, first time I could get there while it was open! They had some really nice artistic papers, lots of Hero and Penny Black stamps, as well as some others like Magenta. Got a nice Victorian women stamp, has four squares/faces on it, as well as a cute little (I mean stamp size) lighthouse stamp, a fun Penny Black knitting chickens stamp (Which would even work for creative women I think), some embellishments, and papers, and two packs of these cool ATC preprinted cards.
The printed card packs are by Memories in the Making, called ATC Collection Paper Pads. I bought one themed women, and one themed sewing.
The women one is like pre-printed ATC bases that have Victorian women with sayings, lace and button designs, etc. Pretty cool, and would certainly work for the women themed group above, stitched to the fabric. and the Sewing one is great, like old Singer ads, labels, etc. and that would work too on there probably for group 1.
REMINDER: YOU MUST HAVE A STAMPED PART ON YOUR "QUILT" SQUARE... YOU CAN STAMP THE DESIGN ON CARDSTOCK, AND THEN SEW THAT CARDSTOCK TO THE 5"X5" FABRIC, ADD LACE OR CHARMS OR BUTTONS FOR EMBELLISHMENTS (HAND SEWN ON) AND SUCH. JUST AN IDEA. YOU CAN ALSO STAMP ON THE FABRIC AND HAND SEW ON EMBELLISHMENTS.
AFTER READING HER EXAMPLE AND A FEW OTHERS, I AM OKAY WITH YOU GLUEING ON ITEMS OR USING STITCH-WITCH TO ADHERE ITEMS TO THE QUILT SQUARE, BUT PLEASE DO THEM IN ADVANCE AND MAKE SURE THEY STAY ON PERMANENTLY BEFORE SENDING THEM TO ME. I NOTICED SHE SAID SHE GLUED CARDSTOCK TO THE BACK OF HER ITEMS BEFORE THEN GLUING TO THE FABRIC FOR STABILITY AND TO ADHERE BETTER.
I know you can't all be burned out from holidays... its a new year, time for renewal and lots of fun creative ideas, especially with all the cold weather! Time to create!!!
1. I will not sign up for no more than two swaps per day.
2. I will not sign up for swaps with my enablers:
Hostess listed as following: Audrey, Ranger, Taryn, Barb, B&D, Blusky, Susan, Sama,
Melissa, Lady Heather, Cheryl etc. Unless its a necessity, and I must join the
swap, so that means, I must particpate.
3. However, due to the stress of overcommitting, all enablers, should send me
packages of frozen food, to place in my freezer.
4. I will particpate as required, also, never, ever stop talking about cooking.
I have the bases of the inspirational blocks pieced together with the verse stamped on them. I'm making my sister a purple bag for her birthday and the trimmings were perfect for 5" blocks.

Sounds awesome, Sheree! I got my sewing machine out, and can now access all my quilt fabric once again so have got to start sewing again. I have several UFOs (unfinished objects) and mending too that needs attending...

I had to work hard yesterday, so wasn't able to read the threads. Later on in the evening, we had an Adult Tutor Review from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. By the time, i came home, I went to bed.
However, this morning, I did another presentation at the library. I just came home to prepare lunch, put on a load of clothes, next head to my Adult Literacy Group, once I leave there, heading to my three girlfriends quick get together for an hour.
One of my girlfriends, called the quick meeting because something is going on in her life, so we will be there to see what's going on.
I miss everyone, will not be stamping today, but I will over the weekend. I miss everyone, will get back with you tomorrow.
No time to craft-Friday is the end of the term. Everyone needs my help. They are having grade death repentence. It's a good thing Monday is a holiday. I'm sure I'll need it.
