I've dug out some old clay magazines, got my clay books out and organized, found my box with all my clay and tools (pasta machine is MIA). I've been doing some sketching of ideas.

I need a second spot please......

For the life of me I couldn't figure out what the heck a caramex tin was. Then it came to me.....! It's one of those small lip balm jars. Wonder where she got 366 empty (?) tins from? Yeah, I see it, she teamed up with the company. Smart thing to do when you need a lot of something. I'll have to go and read her blog about her year-long challenge.

Are you making canes? or figurine type items? Your clay may be too warm if you are doing canes....when i do a cane, i put it in the fridge to cool off before i slice it, that way the colors stay intact. For a figurine type items, I try to make white the last added color if possible. Hope this helps.

I am making ornaments and as soon as I touch another colour it transfers to the white.

So the white is the base for your ornament? Which clay brand are you using. I stopped using Sculpey because it would get warm too quickly and was harder for me to work with. I'm a Fimo girl....I made candy canes one year and really didn't have any issues with the red transferring to the white. Are you finding that you are getting color transfer onto your hands from the clay when you are conditioning it?

hi y'all. it is with much sadness that i must withdraw from all swaps for a few months. yesterday, i fell and broke my nose and right arm. with it in a cast i am trying to type with my left.

enjoying a beautiful fall day with a friend at the state farmers market, i tripped and went face down onto the concrete parking lot. in trying to break the fall, i sustained a right radial head brake and of course, the pavement won the battle. my friend, dh and i spent the rest of the day at the er.

it will be a few months until i can play with paper and ink. please forgive my withdrawal and pray for me to mend quickly so i can join the fun again soon.

OH KARI! I am so sad for you, not only for the pain and trouble of it all, but for not getting to play as much either.
Prayers and hugs!

JCI! And wanted to make sure everyone knows that Sculpey Clay is on sale 50% off at JoAnn's right now. I don't have the paper in front of me, but I think this sale only lasts a week. I wish I knew what I was making so I could buy the clay. Maybe I'll pick some up to play with and get some ideas (any excuse to shop, right???)

I got my imprints for my molds in on monday. Of course we're headed to Nashville this weekend to see the grandbabies. I won't have a chance to play until we get home next week.

As much as I'd love to play in this swap I'm going to have to pass. The freelance is piling up. Including my first feature in Polymer Cafe next spring. So if you guys don't mind, I'm just going to visit with y'all.

Question Needing Input

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for assistance. I am working on an article for Polymer Clay magazine, my first feature. It's all about organization. I don't have near the supplies some of you may have so my way of keeping things contained is pretty easy. But I know some of you have as many tools for clay as you do all of your other hobbies. So how do you keep them organized?

I'm particularly interested in clay and tools. And do you organize differently for portability as opposed to working at home? If you use brand names of things, I'll need to know or if you're more of a reuse kind of clayer for organizing, I'd love to hear the 'green' items as well.

Thanks for your help. And in turn, if you're growing your clay stash maybe things I showcase in the article will help you.
Please PM me off-thread. Thanks

Hi Kelly.
I have a couple of things I use but not sure they are the best to recommend!
I have the plastic drawers, and have my 'new' clays all lined up in the top drawer in rows so I can see the end/names.
As for tools, I use the clear plastic pencil boxes that are sold when school starts up, so I can see what's in them, and I have the tools in those, in the next drawer.
As for clay that I've already opened, that's another story. I put my in little ziplocs but they pile up, so I'm looking for better ways to do that too.
I'm looking forward to hearing all the ideas and seeing pics too and your article!!!

Yes, but just look at the inspiration, and before you know it, you'll be making them too!!

Besides, you are being modest! I have seen your creations and you have no problem with that!!!

Thanks Susan for the tips on how you store stuff. I like that everything is 'clear' so you can see the contents.

For the opened clays, maybe going with the smaller Sterilite drawers (I think there are 3 to a unit) and storing the baggies by color families.

I'm just checking in on this cold and rainy Saturday morning. Yesterday was fairly nice and I was hoping to get outside and do a little yard clean-up. Oh well, guess I'll just have to hunker down, make some coffee, maybe tea, and do some crafting!

Plus I wanted to bump this thread up so other swappers might join!

Thanks, Sandra.
Its just getting rainy and windy here with the hurricane effect coming in towards us. We've gotten all the emergency stuff ready and are just waiting to see what happens. We are in land quite a bit so just expect wind and rain here, hoping no power outages, but are prepared jsut in case.

Hope you are having a safe and blessed weekend, inside or out!

Heart From Susan

I've been texting with Susan this morning. Here's what she has to say:

No snow, got the rain and winds, no power but safe, praise God.
Not sure when we will get power back. may be in the office tomorrow but government closed so far.

ADDED NOTE: Her power came back on as I was typing this. Pray it remains.

How are you all doing with these creations? I have been looking all over for Carmex jars and no one seems to sell them anymore! I've pulled out the clay and molds and such... just need time to sit and create and bake.

So far all I have found is the tube ones, and Burts Bees balms in small tins, which I may try to work with... bought one to try.

Their site says lots of stores carry it but doesn't indicate the jar ones versus the tubes or such. I'll keep looking.

Hey, Susan. I'm baaaack!! Like you said, "Voila! Prayer works!"
My arm is doing great and I am ready to wade back into the swap/craft waters.
Got on my rubber-soled water shoes too so I don't slip and fall! lol

Can I have a spot again, please?
