I love making Art Dolls -- they make me think outside the box (or rectangle, or circle, etc.)!
This round I want to try something new! We have a few categories with specialty themes and rules, so be sure to read each carefully and let me know which you want to join!
BASIC REQUIREMENTS THAT APPLY TO ALL CATEGORIES:
- Each doll must have stamping incorporated in some way and must use sturdy paper/cardstock on it somewhere -- please make your dolls sturdy enough to withstand mailing and handling/play.
- Each doll must also have at least three embellishments/textures -- note that the "Flat You" category has a special requirement of non-3D embellishing. Get Creative! Other than the FLAT YOU restrictions, you can use all sorts of things with these --- shrink plastic, polymer clay, molded shapes and faces, containers for bodies, embossing, die cuts, recycled items, metals....
- Each doll must move in some way, i.e. hinged joints or sections, etc. (Flexible on the Flat You one as you are getting this back anyhow.)
- Size Requirements: Must be a minimum of 4"x2", and a maximum of 8"x11" for mailing purposes.
DUE DATE:All swapping Dolls (exception for the "Flat You" Dolls) must be in my hands by 5/15/12 --- FLAT YOU Dolls start 3/10/12
Mailing Requirements: Be sure to pack well and keep in mind what will be returned as they may be up to 11" each and may have glass or be heavier or 3D, so send extra postage for returns. Be sure to enclose a SELF-ADDRESS LABEL please for the return -- I will reuse packaging whenever possible. No metered labels accepted. I recommend getting a DC# for your own tracking and including that for the return as well. Cash or stamps only accepted; no checks, no predated labels.
NOTE: "Flat You" category has its own mailing rules, see that one.
PM me for my address when you are ready to mail.
You must check in regularly on this thread to let me know you are still participating, and when you mail and receive back please.
Category 3:
This is based on the traveling "Flat Stanley" idea. You make ONE paper doll of yourself. This doll must be have a picture of you as the face at minimum, but the rest is up to you! It must be FLAT and MAILABLE IN AN ENVELOPE (Try to keep it smaller than 8"x10"), so keep your embellishments fairly flat, though you can use brads or eyelets to hinge, etc.
Be sure to put your name, your SCS ID, and mailing address on the back of your "Flat You." Your "FLAT YOU" should also have an "accessory" of some sort that has space for at least 9 people to add their comments or notes or stamp or such... for example, you could have a Travel themed FLAT YOU that has a suitcase or passport in her hand, and that opens to have 9 small pages in it. Got the idea?
When you join this group, you must PM your name and address to the person ABOVE your name on the list.
As you only have to make ONE of these, you must have it ready to be postal no later than MARCH 10th. You then mail it in an envelope (I recommend inserting cardboard folded around it for safe mailing) to the name BELOW yours on the list (you should have gotten their name and addy in a PM).
Each time you get a "Flat You" in the mail, you MUST comment/sign off in the accessory on a space provided listing at least your SCS ID and LOCATION, and then you MUST have it postal again within 1 week of receiving it to the name BELOW yours.
When you get your "Flat You" doll back, let me know here, and then you get to keep it! You will have a traveling doll memory with its own little record of travels!
Note: No flaking allowed in this category because it is a direct-mail. You must stick to the commitment or be reported.

Oh my goodness Susan! How unique! I've never created anything like this before. I'm only subbing for now to give it some thought for the Flat category. Can you point me to a link of something similar to get an idea from?? Is there a doll template?
Susan,
I would like to take a spot in category 2 if angels fit in the fairies, etc. group. I will think about the traveling flat you dolls and let you know if I'm up for that.
Thanks,
Ellen
Hi Vickie and Terria! I just added a whole bunch of links to inspire you to the main post! Check them out! I know you'll want to try this!

oh, thank you Susan. I'll have to check out the links from home (most everything is blocked from here at work!) I'm going out on a limb, since you'v posted a link to a template, I'll take a spot in the traveling flat me! will PM you with address later today.
Fabulous, Vickie! I know you are going to love these! It combines all your crafting and creativity with the fun of being a kid and playing paper dolls again, but making them your own way!
Susan, you always come up with the most clever ideas!!! I'll take a spot in the flat category. Now to go check out the links and see what I've just got myself into!! LOL!!!
For those doing the FLAT YOU, remember to create a way to have the others add a name/location as to where YOU visited! (i.e. the suitcase or passport or a purse or backpack, etc....)
No one wants to make Santas? I thought for sure that would be the one to fill first!!! I was thinking how cute they'd be as ornaments or package toppers too... like old fashioned Santas, etc...

We will limit each group to 8 names to keep it manageable, and if enough interest, we'll do more than one group.

Ok, question about the "FLAT YOU".....you said it has to have a picture of us as the face/head.....is that a real photo? And if so - does it matter at what age?
Have you seen the incredible molds they have in the polymer clay department of Michaels? Lots of great ones there now for body parts and faces, etc... I keep drooling over them but am almost afraid to get a new hobby... though I guess you couldn't really call it new since I have a draw of polymer clay already... hmmm... may have to just go try those out...
Aren't these the cutest little guys????
Just think how much fun you could have making animal ones... with felt or fur... Much ADO About Art Dolls
How about the BuildaBear series too?
I saw some great ones made with the CRICUT animals, as well as the Bears, some made into magnets too with clothes or accessories...
Wish I could play in this one, Susan. Spring is just going to be too buys. I'm getting both granddaughters several times over the spring and summer. Not a lot of time with my toys. LOL
Well, can't say I blame you, you get to play with the real live dolls instead! But maybe if you find time while crafting with them, and want to join in, let me know!
