Default DUE!!! RED/WHITE&BLUE CARD CANDY (6/1) for Card-a-Thon for US MILITA

UPDATE:

On our way to 2000 cards for our US military heroes....

heres what we have so far on our journey to creating 2000 cards at the card-a-thon in october from the 3 swaps I have going here on scs...

Colored image swap: 684 images being donated
http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/fo...d.php?t=485056

Card Candy Swap: 156 pieces of card candy being donated
DUE!!! RED/WHITE&BLUE CARD CANDY (6/1) for Card-a-Thon for US MILITA

Quote swap: 104 quotes being donated

total thus far toward our journey of 2000..... 944!!!

we are halfway there..

Please help us reach 2000 by sending your SCS friends to all..or even one..of the swaps ...to join us..and push us forward to our goal of 2000 cards!

**The card candy swap was due June 1st...but donations are still welcomed...CARD CANDY...INCHIES, TWINCHIES and ATCs

WHAT IS THIS R W & B SWAP ALL ABOUT(?)

Last October I organized and hosted a Card-a-Thon here in my home town in hopes of making about 1000 cards for our US military heroes...
The cards being made would all be sent to Operation Write Home..and Operation Quiet comfort

Approximately 40 volunteers of all ages came that day and created cards from 10 a.m. - 6 pm...
and in the end... we didn't make 1000 cards....
we made 1754 cards!!!

The success of the Card-a-thon is..and was..directly linked to so many SCS-ers who sent donations of materials..as well as card candy..and colored images.

Last year, Susan (SCS STAMPINGOODDEEDS) wanted to lend a hand...and so she hosted a Red White and Blue Patriotic Card candy swap..that was fantastically popular....
The cards made at the card-a-thon with the patriotic card candy were out of this world knock your sox off fannntastic!

I have now begun organizing and planning the next Card-a-Thon...which will be held in October....and once again..ALL CARDS CREATED THAT DAY WILL BE SENT TO OWH and OQC
The goal this year is to complete at least 2000 cards!

that translates into needing LOTS of swappers!.....
and so..I am once again asking for your help!

ABOUT THE SWAP

*This is a RED WHITE and BLUE PATRIOTIC CARD CANDY SWAP for CARD CANDY...INCHIES, TWINCHIES and ATCs

*You may sign up for as many spots as you'd like

*Each spot requires that you send 12 completed pieces of RED WHITE and BLUE CARD CANDY of your choice. You will receive 6 in return
(the extra 6 will be used for the card-a-thon)

**NO GLITTER as PER OWH and OQC request**
(glitter can affect night vision equipment used by soldiers)

*IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE ALL OF YOUR CARD CANDY PIECES (not receive any CANDY in return as a swap)...please note this in your post..I will then indicate this next to your name on the swapper list below

DEADLINE and MAILING

*Please mail all CARD CANDY, ..INCHIES, TWINCHIES and ATCs by June 1st

CARD CANDY should be complete with adhesive on the back..for easy use at the Card-a-Thon

*If you are swapping, please include a stamped self addressed envelope for return of your CARD CANDY with appropriate postage attached

* If you are donating ALL of your CANDY (do not wish to receive any CANDY back) please include a note stating this inside of your Card Candy envelope.

* Once you post a comment here asking for one or more spots, I will respond via PM with my mailing address

A goal of 2000 cards means that LOTS OF SWAPPERS are needed..so please consider joining this swap.... maybe even for more than one spot!

If you've read this....and are joining this swap...THANK YOU!

**some GREAT Card Candy links have been shared on this thread by by susan...(stampinGoodDeeds) who hosted this swap last year...
You can see the links she's shared by visiting POST # 31 (below)

I am a veteran of 5 years and I know how much the cards are appreciated. How exactly do you make card candy? I mean, I know they are like small embellishments and you stick them to like a piece of acetate, I think. But how do you stick them? -sorry this is a dumb question.

I wish i had really looked at the backs of all of the card candy form last years Card-a-Thon....because I honestly dont know the best way to tell you to adhere them to acetate...

for the purposes of this swap..you can add a glue dot or dimensional to the back of each piece (leaving the protective non-stick paper on the back of the outer sid of the adhesive...and place them in a zip loc...
This is how some of the card candy was sent last year...

Maybe someone will come along and tell us the best way to do them on acetate

Hi - I am new at this... so I have a couple of questions. 1) Is this due in October? 2) What is "subbing" and "bumping"? 3) Do you have any examples on how this work?

hi lashawnda..

subbing means that the person has subscribed to follow this thread... it will show on their list of subscriptions (threads)

this swap is due June 1st...(must be received by me..at my end... by june 1st..so it should be mailed in time for arrival here by june 1st)

bumping means that the person who visited this thread posted BTT...(bumping to the top)...or noted "Bump"/"Bumping:"...which then places this thread at the top of the active threads in this category..making it more likely that others will see it and visit
/participate as well.

hope this explains it a bit

How cool is that? Awesome! If it wasn't for all that, I wouldn't have found out about this. Great!
thanks for the explaination.

I think most of the ones last year had a dimensional sticking them to acetate. Some folks also just put them in baggies in sets. Will that work too, Mish, instead of having to put them all on acetate/plastic or with dimensionals?

What a great idea, Jane! I would think they would still be card candy if you added dimensionals to the back!

HERE ARE SOME GREAT EXAMPLES FROM LAST YEAR'S CARD CANDY AND THE GALLERY -- just keep in mind no glitter this year!

Card candy is basically any of the decorations you would attach to a card front!

(MISH: You might want to put a link to this post in your main thread to give ideas.)

Hi Ladies,

I'm going to just sub for right now. I have gotten myself in over my head earlier this year so I don't want to over commit. I'll have a better idea the end of April or possibly before.

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday Eve Day today.

inchies ..atc's etc would be great...i think theyd ake wonderful cards...
I'm just concerned about swapping them out evenly...
would ATC and inchie swappers only want ATC's and inchies back as a swap? or can I mix and math?
what do you think?

Thank you everyone for your interest and questions....

I am always opened to suggestions and ideas... (re atc's and inchies etc)
my objective is to gather enough colored images to create 2000 cards this year!
(the other swap...colored image: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/fo...d.php?t=485056 )

here's my big question...when i swap everything out...would you ladies who are thinking of doing atc's and inchies ONLY want atc's and inchies back?....or are you opened to a random swap..

I don't know the answer to that -- I wouldn't care one way or the other for myself. I guess if they don't want candy, they won't join.

Please sign me up for two spots, and I do not want things in return. I think this is a marvelous card-a-thon! My son-in-law is in the USMC. I know how hard it is for him to be away from home, even on a "safe" deployment.

Another suggestion on how to apply adhesive: I'm going to run my base shapes through my Xyron machine and then add further decorations.
