Angie....you could find those really pretty brass looking ornaments to send. They're super lightweight and still really pretty!! You know you'll get spoiled from us girls here in the USA if you sign up!!

That is an idea...however, if everyone else is making their ornaments, it would not be a fair trade-off. But definitely something to consider!

Angie

I've been thinking about your concern about the mailing costs....I can definitely relate to that! I have all these grand plans of fancy ornaments to make and then I suddenly remember I not only have to make them, but I have to package them up, wrap them so they don't get broken or smashed, and then ship off the boxes. Yes, I see the $$$$$ stacking up.

So, this evening I had a "brain storm" (ouch!). I've been playing with a new Stampin' Up! die for my Sizzix Big Shot machine. It's a pretty snowflake that will make an excellent 3-D ornament. My BIG IDEA: cut out all the pieces, take a picture, write up simple finishing instructions and send the ornament in a flat envelop! Would that idea work for you? (Sending a 'some assembly required' ornament to others.)

By the way, I haven't signed up for this swap yet either. But, I'm in the US and would be happy to swap with you....I can handle a little assembling.

I have made the snowflake ornament at a stamping club I attend. The S/U demo had us cut the die from duct metal. ( she had already cut it into smaller pieces.) we cut out two sizes and then used a dimensional to attach the two pieces. Tihis is a very lightweight ornament and not at all bulky. It would certainly work to send it as a " some assembly required" ornament. It has become quite costly to send a parcel to Canada (I am originally from Canada and send parcels to family) however if you can pop it into a first class letter, it is quite reasonable. Ce

Well, I have done one final assessment and have decided that I am probably in enough swaps for the time being. As great as this one sounds, I better not over-extend myself and run the risk of not meeting all the requirements. However, if it's okay with all of you, I might peek in this thread from time to time, to see everyone's goodies. I am so sorry to have gone on and on about this swap, and I appreciate all the great suggestions. But since I am on disability, which is a very limited income, I'd better just play it safe, especially around the holidays. I do apologize for wasting everyone's time.

Angie!!!

Good Grief, girl!!! You have not been wasting our time (at least I don't think so). This is not only a thread about a swap, but it is also a friendly place for comradeship, open discussions, and a meeting of like-minded souls ---- crafty people! We are trying to encourage you to join us because you are a fellow crafter and your contribution would be an excellent addition to the swap. If you can't do it at this time, there are always going to be swaps and we WILL see you at a later date.

I've lurked around a LOT of swaps that I haven't joined because I like to see the photos of the projects. Please stay with us and add comments.

THAT'S MY OPINION AND I'M NOT CHANGING MY MIND!

Ditto, Sandra. I think Angie's discussion was great for many of us to consider mailing and ideas!

I'm open to receiving either ones that I have to assemble or that are prebought or premade, its just fun to do either way!

Ditto to the above! When we don't ask questions or offer each other advice, what's the point of being here!!

On that same not, I'm all for "ready to assemble" ornaments!! GReat idea Sandra!! I absolutely LOVE your stampin up ornament!! Just beautiful!!

On one last note, I need to get these groups put together and get some names out!! I bet you all are ready to throttle me from being off for 4 days!! I was able to get away and do some fishing with the hubby which was sooo relaxing!! Now to get back to work!

Group 2 and 3 have been paired!

There's only 4 of us in each, but if more want to join, I can always add to the lists!

Since this hasn't been a huge hit, I'm closing the swap and going to just have the 3 groups. No biggie...we'll all still get really great ornaments for our lovely trees!!

Don't forget to post when you do receive!! Mine will be going out in just a few weeks....can't believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner!!

Okay. I have what may be a silly question...
Are the cards we're making to give to our SS for them, or to give to them so they can use them/give them? I was just going to keep in blank and write a note on seperate paper so it would work either way, but I was curious!

Good question! I often just put a post it inside of card to sign so they can reuse it if they like.

You are welcome to just include a note or you can write inside the cards. Since I didn't put any specifics up you are welcome to do what you would like. ( I always send mine with a note as well...that way the card can be reused

Sounds like it was a fun day to me, Peggie! Crafters enjoy even bad weather for that reason!!

I had some crafting time this weekend and played with a few ideas for this but haven't quite decided on which one yet... Hope to make them this coming weekend though and get them mailed out then!

I'm having quite a difficult time deciding what I want to make! There's so many wonderful ideas and just not enough time!....such a dilema!!

How is everyone else doing with their ornaments? Any ideas?

I thought I had my idea all figured out and then i read about the shipping. That did not even enter my mind that it would be more money to mail and awkard shaped box. I am leaning more towards the READY TO ASSEMBLE idea now. I think that is great. I would rather have to put in a little work to put an ornament together than to have one smashed and not usable.

I am leaning more toward something fairly flat in design that can be used for an ornament or even a tag I guess. Hoping to get them done by Monday and mailed out Tuesday.

That's what I was thinking too Susan....maybe a pretty decorated tag....there's so many ideas for decorated tags and they're easier to ship!

Joan gave me an idea...most of us are swapping with each other, so if you want to put it in with your swaps you're sending, feel free....

Ihave not gotten very far on these to be honest. I was hoping to get a few of my other swaps out of the way before I tackled the ornaments. I did print off directions for an ornament though so I guess that was step one!!!!

Mine are done. I decided to do velveteen cardstock Santas so they will mail flat. I added metal belt buckles and buttons, a black satin belt too. Hope you like them. They will go postal on Monday and I'll try to post a pic here soon. My cards have matching velveteen sleighs too.

My cards are finished - fun to make and soooo unlike my usual style! . Now on to make a flat ornament. This whole postage thing is such a challenge since DH. Has to mail all the packages for me!
