I finished my second set of clothespins tonight. I am glad to get them done. This was another project that turned out entirely different from what I thought it would be.

Me too. I sat today for four hours and made 20 altered binder clips... I like how they turned out and they will be postal Monday as I don't want them to be late

Good morning

There is a lot of that going around. Multiple mailings that is - VBG. So if you've sent multiple things to me and are wondering where your swap is - it will show up eventually after the last swap is complete. There are a couple of you who will be getting big packages of swap goodies right about the first of December. It will feel like early Christmas.

Soooo pretty Lori! Love hoe you used the bling!

Question about the numbers - is it 1 binder clip or 1 clothes pin or pairs? I only have medium sized clips so should I send 2 for each swap?

I'm swapping them out 1 for 1. If you send in the medium clips, I'll make sure everything balances out on the returns. No worries - I make it all come out right in the end

I recognize the rhinestone trim. It looks so much like something I got in the mail a while ago!

Those are really CUTE binder clips! So very festive looking.

Joyce

You are a TERRIBLY BAD influence!!!

I will take one spot in the Christmas category.

I'll be doing a big binder clip. If I can find some large clothespins (soon) I might take another spot. Binder clips are easy and I already have those. Clothespins are a little more complicated (for me) and we don't have a craft store in town that carries that sort of thing. I'll have to make a road trip.

I am not a BAD INFLUENCE, I am an ENABLER....LOL

So I will enable you this morning. I am adding you to the Christmas category, and giving you a little suggestion. If you have a Dollar Tree, Spend a Buck, Dollar General type store in town, or even Walmart - you should have no trouble finding clothespins.

I don't think my crafty stores have clothes pins either. Have fun!

Clothespins are a dime-a-dozen here, everywhere. You can get LOTS at the dollar stores.
Joyce, I showed my little Santa clothespins to my crafty group yesterday, and they all want to make them at our next Playtime. I will be furnishing everything.
I want to have them already red and dry when I take them. I painted mine with acrylic paint but don't want to do that for all those ladies, too much time and trouble involved. You said you used Rit dye didn't you? Would you please tell me (and maybe lots more ladies) how you did that? I haven't used that stuff in a hundred years and hated it terribly, the powder was so messy and I always dyed my hands and everything.
Any handy dandy helpful hints?

RIT Dye you say? I'm glued to this here thread. I've got a couple bottles of that stuff that I was afraid to use it in my washer.

Sybil, they have some that come in bottles that I think are premixed so you don't have to fool with the powder. I wonder if those are the ones Joyce uses. The powders scare me. I dye my hands with anything. From Kool-Aid to Copics and on to hair dye. I should probably invest in a box of rubber gloves or something.

I know what you mean. I don't do well with anything powder. I remember having blue hands for days when I used the powdered Rit. I never used the bottled stuff. Joyce will fix us up with some instructions. She always comes through for us.
When I use embossing powder or glitter, oh it is terrible. I usually craft on the kitchen table, so there is no telling how much of that kind of stuff we have eaten over the years.
I certainly don't want to eat Rit.

LOL. There's no telling how much glitter and embossing powder we've eaten. We probably sparkle from the inside out. I must have been the happiest person alive when I was introduced to glitter glue and stickles.

I remember once making a card with a bazillion little flowers glued on, and had the bright idea of putting just a dot of glue in the middle of each one and pouring a really fine glitter on the whole thing. Then I taptaptapped it to get the glitter off. It didn't all come off, so what did I do?
Yep. Blew on it. 10 pounds of glitter blew off that thing, in my hair, eyebrows, all over my clothes, the table, the whole kitchen.
The card was beautiful. There will never be another one like it. Never.
Thank goodness for Stickles.

Okay...Rit Dye 101.

It's not scary, it's just color

I have the bottled stuff - no messy powders for me. The magic thing I have for my clothes pins is the cheapo disposable plastic "tupperware" type containers from the Dollar store. I pour a bit of the dye into a plastic add water and a clothespin and check for color - is it strong enough or two strong and adjust the dye amount accordingly.

I did follow the instructions regarding the hot water, ect. that are found on the bottle. I understand from the website that the dye can be reheated (in that handy plastic container with it's lid!) and used again.

Dying tip - add a bit of dye, dye your items (clothespins), addy more dye, more clothes pins, continue until you have several shades of pins in the same color family. Great if you want an ombre family of something.

Use these same containers for mixing colors. If you have RED, YELLOW and BLUE Dye on hand, you have every color you might want at your fingertips. Remember to use your color wheels (ya'll really need a color wheel, if you don't have one).

Use these same dye containers to dye cotton thread or ribbon to match your projects.

If you get really brave, you can dye several colors at a time on your thread/ribbon. Just drape the material across three containers and gently push them into their respective containers. Start with long loops of material and drape across the containers, pushing gently down into the dye solution. The liquid will wick up into the material fairly quickly and blend to make some interesting colors. This might cause come color crossover into your containers, so do this step last.

The dye can be stored in the lidded container and reheated in the microwave for your next dyeing adventure. Have fun and have lots of old towels handy.

If your dying clips, an old shoebox is great to have on hand. Clip them on the box to dry completely. Don't put them in a plastic bag or they will mold. (Don't ask me how I know this.)

Any more questions?

Thanks Joyce, you are amazing.

I am definitely going to do this. And will give the ladies I am working with instructions so they can do their own for goodness sake!

One of a kind card for sure. I wont even mention how many times I've done that, Sybil. ROFL. I'm one of those who doesn't learn from past craft mistakes until I repeat them...I've currently got holographic embossing glitter on the dining room table and pretty much the whole room. I ruined a cricut mat, and temporarily turned one of my dogs into "fabulousness." Good thing she wasn't wet or it may not have been so temporary.

Thanks for the info, Joyce!! I'm am so going to get me some primary colors today. The ones I have now are orange and purple, I think. Thanks for the shoebox idea too. lol. moldy clips.

Loving the ombre idea...I may have to grab some more spots. You've gotten some ideas percolating!

Maybe we should have a "I Dye-ed It" Swap. I would love an excuse to dye some cotton thread and ribbons in interesting colors. Swapping would be fun - to see the colors and things that everyone would have.

I second that idea!!! How fun would that be? Dyed crinkled ribbon, clips, cotton string, twill ribbon, and so many more.
