this is a public forum. as any other form of public communication it's susceptible to rumors. the likelihood of a virus being embedded or spread in a jpeg file is
extremely unlikely. as far as I can determine from a quick googling it's pretty much unheard of.
jpeg files are merely data files that are opened and displayed by an application. in our case, that application is your web browser. every jpeg file uploaded to our server is processed by an image editing application before it's approved and displayed on the site. any uploaded file containing executable code would be seen by this application as a corrupted file, would never survive intact the processing that takes place, and therefore would never be displayed in the gallery.
I'm reasonably certain that you're posting this information with the best intentions, but PLEASE, if you have an issue like this, report it to me personally before posting it to the entire community. spreading misinformation in this way is potentially far more damaging than the rumored virus could ever have been.
