Default Unicorns & Mermaids

I'm curious - it seems Unicorns and Mermaids are a trend right now in the stamping & crafting world. Does anyone know the message behind these? What kind of sentiment would you put with these images... maybe something like "believe in everything?" Just curious what your thoughts are, I would have no idea what kind of card to make with these stamps! - Catherine

For the unicorn, you could always do "you are one-of-a-kind," or "you are very special." I see a lot of cards with "Wishing you a unicorns and rainbows kind of day!" for a sparkly and colorful card.

The mermaid lends herself to some puns: "great to Sea you," "Seas the day." There's also "keep swimming" (for encouragement), or "I treasure our friendship." Stampendous had a sweet sentiment: "friends are like seashells we collect along the way."

To use both in one card: "Have a magical day!", "Love your imagination," or a punny "Myth you" (miss you lol).

I have a stamp (from a Unity set, I think) which says "Never lose your sense of wonder..." and I've used that with mermaids; similar to what the OP suggests with "believe in everything".

I love that font! Is it a stamp, or computer-generated?

I love the second too!

Some of the sets come with sentiments...

Then there are ones that refer to magical-have a magical day...you are magicial....dream big...Believe....

You can also just use any general sentiment like thinking of you. There is no rule that says those have to be flowers or whatever all the time

Little girls love horses/unicorns for everything. In fact, there is some cartoon with them as characters. They also love mermaids esp since the Disney movie.

Anyone who loves the sea will be good with a mermaid.

They pretty much fall into the sames groups as fairies, dragons, aliens, monsters etc IMHO.

depends on the audience I guess. Hubs and I used to go to Ren Faire's and anything with a fantasy vibe is a big hit in that market. ( I used to take a basket of cards to plop in my step-mom's booth where she sells baskets at Faires)

I think they have always had their niche of popularity it's just some of the mainstream mfg.'s are now coming out with their own versions lately...

ack. I meant little girls love to GET these cards! Sorry! (Although I love Fantasy themes too).

Loving all mermaids!

It is really interesting you mentioned Ren Faire...I used to go a lot and I dont remember seeing stamps...but that was many years ago and I would have been more interested in the carved candles, HM chimes and rainsticks...

Just goes to show how we see different things at different times in our lives

These are all such good ideas! I CANNOT believe it didn't occur to me that little girls would like these and that I couldn't think of sentiments to go with these... considering 1) I used to be a little girl and 2) I LOVED Unicorns and Mermaids!!! I had a my little pony that was a unicorn and I just loved her dearly! My younger sister was always so jealous I had the unicorn, lol. To this day - I remember when I found out Unicorns weren't real. I was in 4th grade! Someone asked what my favorite animal was and I said a Unicorn and she laughed and said... I mean a real animal. It was like someone told me about Santa not being real! I came home and asked my mom if it was true. And the Disney movie The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite movies from my childhood! This all brings back so many good memories now I can't believe it didn't click before! - Catherine
