I love watching YouTube tutorials. I thought it might be fun if you would share a fun tutorial. It can be on any crafting subject that you have found somewhere and think we might enjoy seeing it too!

I think this is a fun and easy box and could be used for any occasion, depending on the DSP you choose.

Count me in as another crafter who is grateful and inspired by YouTube tutorials. This one caught my eye today, not so much as gift wrap, but as a card layout idea, lol.

We are so fortunate, aren't we? So many lovely creative people with the techno know how and good at explaining what they're doing. If they all got tired of it right now and walked away, we still have mountains of wonderfulness to sort through, right?

Pootles and KW are sure in my 'subscribe' list. Vicky and Therese are so inspiring and I love their voices. lol!

You can do it! You know the URL at the top of any website page that starts with http:// or www? You copy and paste that. (If you'd like more instructions just PM me. Or tell us to post what you like.)

That's just who I was thinking of. : ) She started me on using my envelope punch board for making boxes. But I see someone has posted one for her.

So I'll post another from someone else. Back story: my hair stylist "ordered" me to bring her miniature KitKats last Halloween. I wanted to make a box for them. While looking, I stumbled across the box in the video - but it didn't have any dimensions. I decided to make it to keep but keep looking for a KitKat box.

It turned out a stack of miniature KitKats fit exactly - as if the box was made for it. : ) Mine was black/khaki and I used different flowers,

Coming from a family of 'If you can't do it right, don't do it at all' (the evil twin of 'practice makes perfect' right?), I love Lindsay W (Frugal Crafter), our own Lydia (UnderstandBlue) and this gal, JennieBellie for how to celebrate the playfulness and adventure in 'just try it and see what happens'. I also love the rethinking 'trash' and turning it into art.

Here's a JB video that inspires me in so many ways:

Jennifer makes everything look so simple! LOL! I tries the pearlized project, but I don't have the stamps she does and it didn't work as well. Wish I could sneak into her craft room and get a few adorable stamps! She has a great collection ! Let us know how your pearlized project comes out!

Here - although as often happens with metallic effects, the scan doesn't do it justice. I chose a set where the second layer didn't take off too much of the pearls and the third layer has some nice definite lines (the Lotus Blossom set which was a Stampin Up Saleabration offering a few years ago).

No expert, here, but I think ... so the plate itself is like a firm jello wiggler, right? and artists were using gelatin to make these sorts of plates long before GelliPlates came along. The GelliArts Company makes their version out of ... a kind of flexible plastic? and puts out a lot of fun and amazing videos on how to play with them. There are smart crafters who know how to make a DIY version. Frugal Crafter is where I think I first even heard of/learned about how much fun you could have messing around with them. hth.

So the thing they don't tell you in the video that you need is the white rectangle that looks like a plastic tray, but it's really gelatin?!! I wonder if it would work on some surface that I already have.

It's a video from Gelli Arts. They sell Gell Plates, and usually people would be on their website or be on their email list to see their videos, so would already know what is being used. This video is one in their series.

Here you go: https://www.gelliarts.com

yeah, I've wondered that, too. Like maybe a smooth silicon mat with a layer or two of fun foam underneath to give it that coosh. I imagine it'll be a slightly different effect, but close enough to still allow you to get some similar results.

I got lucky and picked up a GelliPlate at a local art store that was going out of business (owner was retiring), so I haven't even messed around with making one with gelatin and rubbing alcohol (which I'd considered, since the price of a GelliPlate is a bit steep, imho).

harvestmoon, there are some folk over on YouTube who have posted GelliPlate alternatives (like a silicon baking mat), how they experimented with different possibilities, and the results. The couple I ran across are longish, so I won't post here, but I think you're on the right track to think you can get similar results without buying the GelliArts product.

I made the DIY gel plate from Frugal Crafter, Lindsay Weirich. It works great and has lasted well over a year and is still going strong. I didn't like the size of my first 8x8 version. As she says, it was easy to melt down and pour into a larger pan. I used a 9x13 disposable plastic casserole pan. Since it has a lid, I store it in the pan. While in use, I put in on an old plastic cutting board for additional stability. I found the glycerin online. I plan to make a 5x7 version for card sized bgs.

Lindsay's recipe
Here is the permanent gelatin plate recipe, remember if you damage the plate you can nuke it on high in the microwave for a minute and reset it!
7 packets of gelatin (6Tablespoons) mix into: 1.5 cups glycerin
then add: 1.5 cups boiling water and pour it into a shallow pan to set.

That's really cool, Carla! I wondered if it would last without molding. I have a 6x6 gelliarts plate and a 9x12 thin stampendous plate. I prefer the gelliarts because its much softer, like the handmade one Lindsay showed.

What a fantastic thread! Keep them coming! About the Gelli Arts plate, I first made my own using the Frugal Crafters recipe (love her!). I used it for months with no problem of molding. I decided I liked it well enough to invest in the Gelli Arts plate. I am so glad I did! There were a couple of techniques I tried on my homemade plate, but it didn't work. For example dye inks. I could see that the ink was on the plate, but all it did was sink in. It wouldn't come off on the paper when I tried to pull the print. Some of the other things I tried were probably just my lack of how to do it, but I've been so happy that I purchased mine. Now there are other brands that are a little cheaper, but I'm sure work just as well. I did have a friend that purchased the thin plastic from Stampendous. It's not the same at all. I'm sure you can do cool things with it, but it doesn't perform like a gelatin plate, so if that is what you are expecting with it, you'll be disappointed.

Good to know about the dye ink, Kristy. So far, I've only used acrylic paints. This is one of my favorite things about SCS, sharing tips and techniques. There are so many marvelous folded projects and things to try in this thread. The Pearlized stamp layering is one I'll try soon.

Thanks everyone for sharing!

Cat Hand is someone who inspires me. Her mixed media playing around, and what all she comes up with, are amazing. I'm taken, at the moment, with what she does with making dendritic prints ... I can just see using them for tone-on-tone backgrounds, or metalic/shimmer over/under matte, but I love how she makes her circles, too. Too fun!

They are all great, but I don't have room for a laptop (or unlimited broadband) when I am making cards and I find the old fashioned written down instructions much more useful as I can print them off and keep on referring to them. The videos are great for being shown how to do things, I can't keep going back to the computer to check out the next step.
