DVDs-Have them? Use them?

I just thinking how years ago instructional DVDs seemed much "hotter" than now-In fact now I dont feel like I ever hear people talking about them or using them.

I assume this is due to YouTube.

Do you have DVDs? Did you get good use of them? Did you get rid of them?

I dont own any but I did borrow some and I was mesmerized at the time by them. I think it was Dreamweaver Stencils and Colorbox inks?

I've never had any crafty DVD's. I've always looked at videos on blogs or YouTube. It seems so much easier to use my computer than to fiddle with the machine on the TV.

I think you're right- You Tube has become the goto. No storage issues,and nothing to dust, lol. I like You Tube simply because you can cherry pick to find exactly what you want, rather than trying to find a segment in a DVD, or watching the whole thing and it really wasn't what you were expecting. Plus, if you really want to keep an item to go back to, you can download it to your PC with You Tube Downloader.

I own and use some DVDs. I still enjoy watching them on my laptop.

I have two or three, I remember enjoying them at the time, but I haven't used them in years (must dig them out lol) but I would suggest YouTube and blogs have made them pretty obsolete.

That was what I was expecting. I sure do use YT every other day for one thing or the other.

But I have no doubt that if I got a DVD, I would again be mesmerized. I think it would be my version of video games for the kids LOL. One can play them on a computer right? And you can stop and freeze them if you are working along with it....

Also seems like if you were in your home with your play firends you could all watch it on the tv at the same time.

Well I was just curious if people still have them around or even still buy them.

I have one for the becca's bow maker and I did use it quite a bit until I could remember how to do exactly one bow on it... :mrgreen: maybe I should dig it out and learn a second one? ( my go to thing is mostly knots)

I have a couple of Tim Holtz DVDs that came out years ago, and they contain some techniques that I have not seen on YouTube. I think I'll get them out again and refresh my memory.

I'm showing my age here but I have some VHS crafting tapes I never watched. I just pulled them to toss them. I love YouTube.

There are still a lot of them out there...

Hero arts has one, Clarity has a bunch of them, House Mouse, Oozak has a bunch of copics ones....I imagine if you check, a lot of the older mfgs have them. Or if you google someone else may have made one.

I think I have seen them on the craft tv shows as parts of kits/bundles with product.

Living in a place where there is no cellphone reception, no high speed internet (still on VERY slow dial up, I am lucky to have collected quite a collection of DVDs and VHS... Have everything from Tim Holtz, Dee Gruenig (Simply Posh is great) as well as many of her older ones for basic techniques, ideas, etc. Have most if not all of the Magenta, Colorbox VHS, one by Stamps by Judith, one called Ink it Up which has both cardmaking and scrapbooking ideas. Several by Gina K...one is a technique DVD and one came with a kit I bought from her website some time ago. There is a DVD out there from flowersoft, one fron Art Impressions re watercoloring, one by Mary Jo McGraw called "Stamp art Inspirations...."Color Conversations" by Darlene Domel from Stampland Chicago (love it!), ...one called "Rubber Paper Scissors" by Judy Watanabe....."10 Quick and easy mini books" by Alexa Joy.
Then there are all the DVDs put out some years ago by "Creating Keepsakes" which are mostly scrapbooking techniques. I watch each and every one frequently and enjoy doing so. Also there are computer videos which I collected from HSN from Hot off the Press called StampCamp which I think is essentially collections of you tube type videos with tons of stamp techniques all stamp related of course!
If there were only DVDs with collections of techniques from You Tube that would be great as dial up does not afford me the luxery of watching them unless I want to spend over an hour downloading a 3-4 min tutorial...been thinking of going to the library to view on their computers.
I did get some of the DVDs/VHS from ebay some years ago as well as directly from the creators of them...I noticed Amazon has some of the used oldies available. HSN may have some of the more recent StampCamps available if you search for them and don't mind viewing from your computer.

OOPS! How could I forget the series of 5 Carol Wood videos....my all time favs...I think Carol is out of business now but used to have CC rubberstamps many moons ago. Carol was doing folds, techniques on her videos long ago probably before electronic die cuts, embossing folders, etc....love her videos!

I had dial up until just a few years ago and you aren't joking when you say an hour to download a three minute video! Oh that is painful and frustrating! I feel for you, and can see why you would enjoy DVD and videos!

I never had any DVDs, but do watch You Tube occasionally. The only way to watch a DVD is through our TV. All computers are laptops without a slot, so have no interest in them. I still like the written tutorials with pictures. That way I don't have to mess with running back, watching commercials, or depending on something electronic. I have it right in front of me in my technique books that I add to daily.

I have a few DVDs of fine art/painting lessons, but never knew there were any for card making! I've always just watched YouTube or videos that I've seen as part of online classes. Go figure! LOL
