3d Paper Piecing

Hi All

To those that do the 3d paper piecing on your cards, what glue do you use on the pieces that make them look like they are popping? I was thinking about using glue dots. Thoughts??

Silicone glue is what many use, though it has a bad smell ( to me) and a longer drying time. Another glue is recommended in our tutorial here: 3D Paper Piecing Tutorial - Splitcoaststampers, which sounds to be relatively quick-drying. And I don't know if PinFlair glue is available where you are? It always gets good reviews. I'm sure you could improvise with glue dots, but I prefer to use foam tape in different thicknesses, easier to cut to size.

I read this as "piercing" twice before the brain kicked in. {sigh}

Multiple cut pieces - 3 or 4 - stacked on top of each other can also give dimension, as can fun foam. Then you can use a glue pen, multi medium matte or even stamp runner or ATG if the pieces are large enough - whatever adhesives are your faves in your stash.

Mine came in metric sizes, but I'd say in a range from 1/16 to 1/8" thick. If you're building up a lot of layers, the thinner ones mean you don't end up with too much bulk. It can also be possible to find the pre-cut squares in different thicknesses, but personally I prefer buying the rolls of foam tape when I can find them.

I use both silicone and foam, the silicone is good for those tiny slivers that foam can't go behind.

Couple of tips from doing decoupage you may or may not know, try slightly rolling your layers, I wrap my layers gently around a tool with a round handle, it gives a nice smooth less stepped look, also with most foam tape being white it stands out if you view the card from the side, so using a black or brown marker, colour the edges of the foam, it helps to blend it into the darkness under the layer.
