Default Very Basic Beginner

Hi SCS
Are there any basic threads for an absolute beginner? Your galleries are lovely, but far beyond my skill level and affordability. My skills and supplies are limited, so I really don't know where to start (but I so want to!) I want to send cards out in your Need-a-Lift Card Request forum, it seems so uplifting! Thanks

Hi and welcome!

I think just the fact that you want to make some cards says it all! When I started I only had a few things and to this day I may have more now but my supplies are only basic.

Have fun, make some cards that are your own design using what you have. Sharing your cards makes it even more exciting and generous.

Can you find anyone locally who offers classes? I know before I did that I was buying this, that and the other thing. For example, I always wondered why my cards smeared after I stamped them. I learned that dye ink was the solution.

Maybe you have a local shop or can find a consultant who does classes near you. I think you'd find them worthwhile.

If you could give the gallery another shot, search for CAS cards (click on Gallery at the top of the page - click on Search on the left side of the page - enter CAS). This is for "Clean and Simple" style cards. Some are advanced but many are reproducible for a beginner (or at least inspiring for other ideas). Have fun with it! We were all beginners once ;)

Can you find some stamping magazines. A good one is called "Take Ten". The cards in there are very simple.

Hi and welcome. I googled Making a simple greeting card on Youtube, and found lots of videos for you.

Check them out:

Welcome! I just wanted to say that we were all basic beginners once ;-). It's easy to look at the gallery and feel intimidated or inadequate but we all started out as "baby stampers" and grew by trial and error. People who receive your cards will love getting happy mail. If you just want to start by using a stamped and coloured image, the layouts provided in the gallery for the sketch challenge are a good place to start. Many of the earlier ones even include measurements. You can view all the sketch layouts here: Stampin Up! Gallery: Member Galleries - Page 1 - Cards & More - Splitcoaststampers

I agree with Sabrina, people just like getting handmade cards! Remember too, that the people you send cards to probably will just be so tickled they won't critique your skills. I used to make some cards I didn't like, then throw them away, but now I say "someone somewhere will like it", and I really believe that! Just have fun with your crafting!!! Welcome to a very knowledgeable but extremely kind community!!!
