Last year I unmounted all my wood mounted stamps so that they are bare rubber now. Yay! All nicely organized and taking up way less space. Now my problem is I saved all the blocks and shell cases. Ideas what to do with them. I have A LOT. LOL! Guess I only got that project half organized.
If the blocks aren't sticky, a lot of people use them for art projects. I've used a lot of mine for "building" things - supporting a shelf that needs a little lift to even it with the other end because they are resting on unequally-high furniture pieces, for example, or with yardsticks (cut down) to make narrow shelves for small things - stuff like that. Preschools, daycare people and kindergartens may be interested in them for the kids to build with.
Clamshells are useful for storing all kinds of bits and bobs that don't fit into your organization anywhere else - unfinished cards, flowers, punched pieces, doilies, etc. I have bobbins (for sewing) in one. I made dividers with packing tape to keep them from getting all tangled together.They're also the perfect depth for mini ink pads. I have all of my Hero Arts shadow ink minis in one...
I have used a few of the larger background sized to decorate. I adhered a piece of canvas (just some I had lying around) stamped an image, and colored it with watercolor pencils. They turned out cute. But if you want to put a sealer over it when finished, be sure to use products that won't smear (experience speaking). I still have more blocks, so can't wait to hear more ideas of what to do with them.
I put my wood block on the BST forum for free (they paid shipping) and have gotten rid of lots of them. You can get 100 in a medium flat rate box!
I gave away some of the clamshell boxes on the pay it forward thread here. Some I'm using to store jewels and do-dads. I even have my fusion tool with its accessories in one. I also use the medium ones to put baby wipes in for stamping on the road or travelling with messy children.

I used two blocks to make stamp cleaners for when I use my Misti. I chose two same size block and glued stamp cleaning pads to each. Labeled one for "cleaning" (sprayed cleaner on it) and one for "drying". That way I can easily clean my stamps while they are still adhered to my Misti.

What a WONDERFUL idea! Now I know what my evening project is going to be!:cool:
I turned mine into washi storage! I drilled a hole in the middle of ones that were about 2-2 1/2" square, added a bit of white glue and inserted a 1/4" dowel. I planned to paint them until I realized the adhesive was turning brittle in the sun so I don't recommend this unless you keep them away from direct sunlight just like your Cardstock. Maybe keep them in a cupboard or in a corner without much light. But they work fantastically!! I had a whole farm of them on my desk sorted by colour.
Someone asked how I got to the ones at the bottom. You can just unwind the piece you need and tear it off without removing the roll. Or I just put my hands on the top and bottom of all the ones above the target roll. Then I pressed them together slightly so they didn't come apart as I lifted. I set the stack down on the desk, took off the one I wanted and replaced the rest. Super easy! Takes way, way longer to type than to do!!
You can use suitable sized ones to make your own ink blending tools. Just staple on a piece of velcro, and add handles.
You can see here I bought a pack of wooden drawer handles from a DIY store- plastic were cheaper, would have worked out to a few pennies to make each one, wooden handles worked out at about 75p( approx $1) each

This is a brilliant idea. thanks so much for the suggestion. I love love love my misti but cleaning the stamps on it was a dilemma for me. Thanks again.
It looks like whatever is left over from my buy sell I will be un mounting and making altered items with the blocks. I have googled some projects and they look fun to do.!
I'm wondering if any stamp companies would pay for shipping to get back woods blocks.
I'm thinking Stampin Up still makes a ton of wood mount stamps. Wouldn't it be great if they would recycle them to make new wood mount stamps?
I use my unmounted wooden blocks for craft projects. I'm running low on the blocks and wish I had more on hand to use for projects. So many uses for them wooden blocks.
Using scrap wood, I even had my husband cut scraps down to my liking for me to use wood burning projects, mounting favorite photos, stamping - embossing inspiration / Christian sayings, etc.
Interesting idea. I would probably leave the labels on otherwise with all the different sizes of wood blocks it just might look weird. Although if I were to do it I'd probably use it as a chair rail in the craft room so the labels would be visible to enjoy.
I've made a couple of houses out of a long rectangular one and a square one cut into a triangle. Without the triangle they could be buildings. We made them in a workshop led by Kristen Powers (Kae Pea/Rubber Moon Stamps). Blocks were covered with DSP and gessoed with white gesso to soften the look, if you wanted. You can use an emery board to "file off" the paper at the edges.
She sells little chipboard doors and windows to be glued on, and I stamped a small cat to put behind one window and a plant behind another. I keep meaning to make more.
The video in the above URL can give you some ideas too.
(If you don't have wood blocks and want to make them from scratch, many companies sell cut offs and long pieces of stamping blocks that you can cut yourself.)
