Default Birds + Twine = Card Holder Art

At Ikea for the second time in three days, I saw this bird canvas print, "Perched on a String."

The horizontal lines are pieces of twine that wrap around to the back and are stapled onto the frame. Small clothespins are included.

It was displayed holding greeting cards. What a simple, smart idea that could be done on bulletin boards or just on an empty frame. I happened to like the little birds so bought it.

Note the photos on the link that show it with photos and crafty stuff:

THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH!!! I've had a partially-finished project for more than a year, and this was exactly the inspiration I needed to get 'er done! I'll be back with a photo after this mission is accomplished! Thanks again!

This is so cute! I have a thing for birds on a wire and love them in decorating or even single birds. I'd love to have the one from IKEA to display cards!

Here's one of my birds on a wire pieces.

It looks like you can buy it on line, though I wonder how they'd protect it.

I would have missed it in the frames/pictures section where it was stacked if I hadn't seen it hung up in the section with boxes.

Well, that would require me finishing said project, now, wouldn't it? I'm in the finishing-up stages of the latest purge/reorg of stamps and my room is a MESS, so there is no available real estate on which to work. Hopefully later this week, though!

very cute! We have been planning on doing something similar...to our walls. No canvas or frame. Just hemp cord, clothes pins and some photos. We've lived here for over 4 years and have not hung much up, not even a photo of our wedding which was in '08. So the non-pressure of finding frames and using clothes pins instead appeals to us. It also makes for easy swapping of different photos. =)

So, I wrapped up the re-org and cleanup yesterday (finally!) and took a minute today to finish my half-baked project. Thanks again, Beth, for the inspiration!

I had the background painted and knew that I wanted to use the Crazy Birds, but branches or whatever else I could think of just wasn't working. Obviously there are not as many birds as on the Ikea board, but I'm a "less is more" kind of person, anyway...

! Hahaha! I love that! Could it be any better? (Answer: no.) I half expected part of a bird face/head to be at the very bottom.

Love the blue. Which is it?

This is actually a canvas that I painted with acrylics: Delta Ceramcoat North Sea, True Turquoise and White. I stamped the birds on watercolor paper and painted them with Distress Inks: Wild Honey, Peeled Paint, Salty Ocean, Mowed Lawn, Fired Brick and Dusty Concord. After I die-cut them, I used Mod Podge to glue them to the canvas and top-coat them. The twine is stapled to the inside edge of the wood frame on the back (staple gun).

That is so cute, Sue!
What kind of ink would you need to stamp on white canvas? I feel like you could practically duplicate the IKEA one.

Obviously it's not the smile-inducing focal point, but such a beautiful background. Thanks for the mini tutorial. I'll be looking at canvases differently next time I'm in the art supply store, though I don't have much wall in my croffice*.
