Challenge Title: Resistance is Futile - or IS IT? Hostess: Understandblue (Lydia) Keyword: MIX210
Today's challenge is to do a resist technique with an unexpected product. Actually, I've BANNED this product from my classes because it can be messy in a restaurant environment, but it's a useful product in a lot of ways - and that product is - the HUMBLE GLUE STICK.
I learned this technique in Carla Sonheim's 365 class - it's an art prompt every day for 2017 - and I love it!
What you do is apply your glue stick to watercolor paper and let it dry. You can draw with it, just make streaks, whatever you like. After it's dry - add watercolor, and then wipe it with a damp cloth to remove the color from the glue stick areas like with any other resist.
It's a very subtle resist and very fun. I'm attaching two pictures from when I first tried it. Just the resist with blue in vertical stripes. Then I did horizontal stripes on top of that, let it dry, and added pink watercolor for a subtle plaid. Then I used that as the background for an assignment to do a fast, one line drawing of elephants without lifting your pen - that was hard! My elephants are crazy. Please use a glue stick and at least one other medium. Anyway, have fun with it and I look forward to seeing your backgrounds!!!
We hope you're having fun with these! Our goal is to make mixed media easy, approachable and FUN! We want to convince you that no matter what your style is - you can DO it!
Fun technique! For some reason when I wiped off my panel the glue parts looked a bit yellowish....maybe my glue stick was old? Don't know....anyway here it is....
This was SO fun to do! When I first joined SCS almost a year ago I avoided the MIX challenge like the plague as my style is really CAS - After 6 months of resisting I tried it out and now love these challenges. I will use this technique again & again:
Oops - don't know what happened - When I checked my Photo to make sure it was linked correctly, all the descriptive info just disappeared so I had to go back in & rebuild it . . . .
