Default Organizing hurts!

I had noticed that one of the large (1 ft height by 3ft wide by 2 ft deep) drawers was sticking when I was pulling it out but as I didn't have time I left it. On Friday I decided to tackle the drawer to find out what the heck was wrong with it, and it was even worse....

I pulled & pushed and pulled & pushed, I huffed & puffed, and swore but it was stuck, even the drawer below it wouldn't open... After working up a bit of a sweat & a temper I figured out that the base of the drawer had collapsed, so the contents had slipped back and then some of it was in the bottom drawer which explained why the bottom drawer wouldn't open.

I managed to get the drawer slightly open, and luckily I have teenie tiny hands (about the only thing on me other then my feet that is small :rolleyes And I was able to squeeeeeeeeeeeeze my hand and then arm in and slowly pull out the contents one by one, whilst trying to make sure nothing more slipped into the bottom drawer which would stop me from opening that.

After a while I managed it, with the help of a now bent steel ruler. So now I have the contents of the drawer all over my craft room, the drawer is still in minus its bottom and I need to take it out retack it, and I will probably duck tape the heck out of it to give it more support. I will need to rejig the whole unit to spread the weight ............ugh.

All this resulted in 9 bruises (I bruise easily) all the way up my arm and also think I sprained my wrist.:( The bruises are very fetching shades of black, purple, blue and an interesting shade of green. The wrist is staring to heal but if I catch it wrong it still hurts.

Moral of the story, don't over load your drawers lol!

I think the moral of the story is don't organize.

Kidding, so sorry about your colorful bruises but love your sense of humor, jukie. And in the immortal words of Sergeant Esterhaus, let's be careful out there!

What a tragic tale of woe! Sorry about the damages (to yourself and the drawer), but glad you're on the mend! I have kind of a love/hate relationship with drawers, anyway - most of them are too deep and become "black holes" that everything disappears into...

The bruises are a good color combo for the galaxy technique!

Organizing does hurt. Two days ago: black eye, copious amounts of blood (head wounds bleed big), bruised arm and leg, ER visit, CT scan, glue and steri-strips. (Begged for no stitches, and was told if I was careful and didn't get my head wet it should be okay.)

I was organizing the office/craft room and wanted a chair mat to protect the carpet from ink or paint, and tripped over it onto a desk top and leg apparently. No ink, just blood for my husband to scrub off the carpet. BTW, hydrogen peroxide works great, as per one of the ER nurses.

Really scary. One of our cats, who I call our dog-cat, came running, would not leave my side, and was waiting at the door and crying when we returned.

Crafting is not for the faint hearted!

Wow! Knock on wood, but I've never suffered more than a minor bruise or small nick from a craft-related incident. Typically it's just sleep deprivation... Is your prognosis good? Hope you mend quickly!

Never occurred to me that I needed a medical alert system for crafting. I've just been worried falling in the bathroom. LOL

Hope you're feeling better.

Thank you, Sue. Prognosis is not good... for the mat. Taken back to the store. Likely a small scar at the deepest cut location, aching arm/leg for a while, and postponement of my hair cut & color this Sunday.

I know, right? My medical alert system worked: screams. This incident reminded me that my mother used to tell me to pick my feet up higher when walking. See what happens when you don't listen to your mother? Even if it's 40 years later.

Thank you, Dea. : )

OMG Bjeans! Thank heavens you didn't suffer a fracture or something even more serious. Wishing you well and hope you're not in pain. Our babies do love us! They do understand when we're not feeling well or hurt, they're intelligent and loving little creatures for sure. Sending hugs your way!

Thank you, Anne. My husband first thought it was my eye. Both he and the ER folks said I was lucky. While I don't feel lucky every moment (the truck that ran over me did its job well) I know I am.

The cat who stayed with me has a bad form of cancer; he has outlived expectations. (He goes to a specialist and is watched like a hawk. No suffering allowed.) Every day I think and tell him how grateful I am he's here, to tell me if he's hurting, and I whisper to go for eight months (he passed six months six days ago) or to even aim for past his birthday (May 2). He sits upright on my lap like a Buddha and I rub his stomach for luck.

Now I could do without the midnight grooming - of me, not him. : ) But whatever floats his boat.

Stamp: I'm crafting and I can't get up.

Speaking of stamps, Riley & Company has a new one that says, "Why buy it for $7 when you can make it yourself with $92 of craft supplies?"

Thank you, jukie. : ) And how are your 9 bruises? At least fading to yellow by now?

All gone, just my bruised ego remains! I was a good girl though and resorted the drawers and shifted weight around it 'should' not happen again.
