Default TLC615 ~ It's No Y-Awning Matter ~ {12/05/2016}

It's the first Monday of a new month again - so it's Everything Old is New Again time. This is the challenge I was going to use last week - because even though it's an old technique, it never actually featured as a TLC challenge...Today we're going to make Awning Cards....a fun way of dressing up a card front but keeping it easy to mail (so long as you provide instructions if you're sending it to somebody who wouldn't know to pop the awning and optional "shelf" up!). But even though it's not technically an old TLC, I wanted to slip it in this week as it's great for Christmas cards and IS definitely an old technique.

I believe these originated as a technique using SU's Word Window punch - but when I first came across them, I had to cut little strips and round the ends with a circle punch :mrgreen: in order to get the alternating stripes of colour. Nowadays there are so many decorative border dies, including scallops, so feel free to ring the changes with your awning style. I'm adding a video tutorial from YouTube for the original type, and my Flower Shop sample is done like this - but my Pet Shop is simply a decorative edge die scored twice and folded in the same manner as the original canopy. It doesn't have to stretch the whole width of the card either - a favourite birthday card that stayed out on my bookcase for a couple of years had a little mini scene with an awning with just 3 or 4 scallops. And if you do want to use the Word Window punch and don't have the scalloped punch as shown in the video - just attach your Word Window strips to a regular rectangular strip of card.

I thought it would be a fun card for this time of year as you can fill your "shop window" with all sorts of Christmas treats - toys, flowers, sweet treats, or whatever takes your fancy for a non-seasonal card.
Have fun!!

:arrow: Remember to use the keyword TLC615 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

What a fun card idea, Sabrina, and a great tutorial by Dawn. I hope I can find some time this week to try this!
