I bought a MISTI, but it is still in its box.... On arriving home I found that the stamping area is only 6.5 x 8.5 inches. I do mostly card making, and make mini albums, but do not do not much 12 x 12 scrapbooking. My question is, is this size adequate for mini album stamping, and some of the fancy fold cards? Does an 8.5 inch paper actually fit in the base? Is the Memory MISTI awkward for stamping just a small card? I can't afford both sizes, and would appreciate hearing from other MISTI owners. Thank you!
I don't know about the Memory one, but I find the MISTI to be perfect for standard cards. Yes, 8.5 " paper fits fine. Re the fancy fold cards, I guess it would depend.....
I do very few fancy folds (although I should and want to!)
In preparing to stamp my cards I fold it before placing in the MISTI so I know exactly the work space I have to use. I only keep the paper unfolded if I plan on stamping over the fold and onto the back of my card. It doesn't matter the size of the paper, it can hang outside the edge as the magnets will keep it in place. I don't do scrapbook pages at all, but I have made a 5.5 square card in the small MISTI by allowing the paper to hang over the edges and using the magnets to secure. I hope this helps.
I was wondering about letting the edge of the paper hang over. I went to a card class held by a Stampin'up demostrater and took my MISTI. IDK if she liked it or not, but really the MISTI works better than anything.
I decided to keep the MISTI and not exchange it for the Memory MISTI. So the first thing I decided to stamp was a mini journal page using a Graphic 45 border stamp..... And it didn't fit (it's about 7 1/2 inches long). I had to turn the paper so it was hanging out the side, it worked but was awkward, and I was going to stamp several pages but don't think I will now.
So my advice to anyone considering a MISTI is look at the size of your stamps and how you might be using them, and in which orientation. Wish I had bought the Memory MISTI now, I think it would be way more versatile.
Its a matter of preference and what you plan to do. The Memory Misti would take up too much space on my counter. I'm a CardMaker only. Your 7 1/2" stamp will fit, you'd just have to turn the Misti and place your stamp differently. You can use it in portrait or landscape position.
I have the regular and mini MISTI and never thought I'd need the Memory MISTI since I do very little scrapbooking anymore. But I make lots of 5 x 7 and larger ahead of time and put the sentiment inside just before mailing them. With lots of layers and embellishments I'm having a hard time getting a good image inside since part of the card is outside the MISTI and the cover doesn't close tight with the added height, especially if I'm using a thick cling stamp. I had my first MISTI failure yesterday trying to stamp a large Taylored Expressions sentiment inside. I had to restamp it on another piece of cardstock and glue it over the first image, just like I used to do before the MISTI! The Memory MISTI would solve this problem but I don't have room on my desk for one this size. It's something I'd consider if I keep having problems stamping sentiments - or maybe I should just make smaller cards with fewer layers and embellishments.
Maybe this is a dumb question, but did you remove the foam piece when you tried stamping? When using rubber stamps that are thicker that foam piece comes out., but I'm guessing you probably tried that?

Yes, foam was removed. Problem was a large card with lots of layers and thick embellishments.
Is it possible to stamp before the embellishments are added? I don't think the larger memory Misti will help with thick cards. It will just help with larger widths and lengths. I think its the same thickness as the other two. Someone correct me if that's wrong.

Problem is I make most cards ahead and add sentiment just before mailing. Since the cards are 5 x 7 or larger they hang over the edge of the MISTI and that's why the cover doesn't close tightly. I was hoping the larger MISTI would be able to hold the card open totally within the MISTI, eliminating the problem of hanging over the edge.

Diane, I wonder if you might use a paper liner and stamp the sentiment on it, and then attach the liner inside your card? I also make cards ahead of time and add the sentiment at the time of mailing, and I've found this is a good solution. I also like to print the sentiments on my computer, using a fancy font, and this is easier than printing them directly on the card.

I sometimes do this and it would work and save me money by not buying the larger MISTI. I was trying to avoid adding any more bulk to my already too thick cards! A second stamp would be cheaper than buying another MISTI!
Hi! I just ordered the Memory Misti last night, I have gone back and forth on which one to purchase, and I have read a lot of postings about Misti, and other versions. I've seen the make your own video versions too. I own a lot of stamps and I like the idea of being able to do a piece of paper that is 12x12. I used to make a lot of cards, bags, boxes and pages, not so much any more. I have problems with my hands, arthritis and a few other things, so I'm hoping this will make stamping easier and better. The ability to restamp an image will be great.
So I will make space for the larger Misti on my desk.
If I understand correctly, the hardest part is space and support when the Misti is open and you're putting ink on the stamp. I will figure out how to support the lid when mine gets here. I understand the Memory Misti will be heavy, but I don't stamp away from home so that will work out okay.
The price is a lot, but I could easily spend that much visiting the craft stores or buying cartridges for my Cricut, and if I can get back into using my stamps more, it'll be worth it. I bought the Cricut because cutting is hard on my hands, and it'll be nice to combine stamping and die cuts. I have a lot of the Peachy Keen faces so that will be fun to get that stuff lined up.
Any suggestions or tips for a new Misti member? Thanks
