Nowhere for my Embossing Folders

Now that I found the tool for my dot making. I have another question. Is there something out there that can hold my Embossing Folders? I like to have them out in the open because I am so out of sight out of mind. Right now I have them in coupon wallets and I always forget I have them. Plus, the coupon wallets aren't big enough so I have to close them by wrapping a rubber band around them. Any ideas on what to use to organize my Embossing folders?

I store mine in a refrigerator bin. Here's a pic.


They're separated by company and alphabetized by name in Evernote. The tall separations are tab dividers with company name on tabs. It only takes seconds to find exactly the one I need. This should work even if you don't use Evernote.

Any kind of plastic box/bin will work fine. Also some of the fabric covered bins work great and some of the paper covered bins like at Michael's. Try Target and WalMart and Hobby Lobby.

Any kind of bin or basket that you can have them in standing upright would work great. I have mine in a bin from Stamp N' Storage, because I was getting their bin and magnet sheet storage for my framelits and thinlits also. I love it, I can flip to find the one I need.

I also store mine in the frig bins, works great! Bed, bath & beyond also carry these and you can use a coupon too !!

My embossing folders as well as dies are in refrigerator bins. I got mine from Aldi's when they had them as a special purchase. I love them. I can just flip through and find the folder/die I want. I separated them with chipboard (cereal boxes cut up) and put "tabs" on the chipboard with name/company of die/embossing folder. You can put A LOT of dies/embossing folders in a small amount of room and then they are also easy to access and use. I am also a person that has to see them...out of sight -out of mind. These bins are also portable which is nice. I take them out of the cabinet and set them by my Big Shot when I am using it.

Mine are all in a 9 litre Really Useful Box. Just upgraded from a 5 litre one as it was getting too full. You could use more than one 5 litre though, it's just that I'd bought some 12" folders, a couple of very long borders, then some Diffusers, so the extra width space was also useful.

Thank you so much everyone. I can now have them out and ready to use. I ordered a refridg. bin from Amazon. I can't wait to get it. And I am going to try the cereal box thing for dividers. Altho, I will probably cover them with d/P just to pretty it up. Thanks again everyone!!!!

I store mine like this. I have 7 of these full. They are now labeled and stored alphabetically under each company name. Each 3 liter big box holds 63 embossing folders.

Wow Amber you have a ton of embossing folders. I have maybe 20. I guess because I forget about them I don't think of buying any either. Hopefully, once I get them out in the open I will think to purchase more. Where is the best place to purchase them from?

Dani if you send me a private message with your name and address if I have any duplicates hanging around I will send them to you. I love the way I store mine because the Really Big Boxes are very sturdy and stackable. I have them on a shelf across from my work surface. I see them well enough to use them all the time.

Forgot to say the Darice brand is the most reasonably priced ef folder collection onnthe Market. I buy wholesale and they are only 2.50 each.

Thank you. I am not a prime member. I wasn't sure if that is a good deal or not. I'm not sure what being a prime member does for you. KWIM? However, I did order the bin so I hope to get it soon. We've been Prime members since it started and is an outstanding benefit for us - but it depends on your shopping habits. It costs $99/year. There's a long list of benefits, but the ones I mainly use are "free" 2-day (and now sometimes 1-day) shipping on eligible Prime items (most items if you look) and borrowing a book a month for free on a Kindle or Kindle app for tablets. Hmm maybe that Prime is something I will check into. We order things from Amazon all the time. Where I live we have the choice of Walmart or Home Depot. There is a very small JoAnn Fabrics however she doesn't carry much of anything for card making. And then there is a dollar store that doesn't carry anything for card making. So I would bet I could recoup the $99 rather quickly. Thank you for sharing that information with me. Free shipping is a good thing for me. And thank you for the link. I have not checked it out yet. I buy mostly 5x7, 6x6 and larger.
Do you know if the 5x7 or 6x6 will fit?
I use other bins for my large EFs.

The SAMLA bins from IKEA are great as well and very economical. Here's a picture of one of the smaller sizes with some stamps in them using the Avery Elle sleeves. I can't find my photo with the embossing folders in them.

The half or full women's shoeboxes at The Container Store also work and are quite inexpensive.

I use a lot of the plastic shoe boxes. The Really Big Boxes 3 liter size will hold 5x7 size if you put them on their sides. Im sure there are larger Really Big Boxes that might work for these too.

My refridge bin came in. It works perfect for the EF. The only problem is I thought I had a lot more folders than 10 so now the poor bin looks empty. Uggg....I am thinking I might put my dies in there as well since there is so much left over space. At least until I get more EFs.

Here's my little system that works for me. I found the boxes for the regular sized folders at Big Lots. The larger ones, my diffusers, the little border edge and smaller ones are in the section behind the larger ones, and behind them are my extra cuttlebug plates in a little desk organizer I found probably at Michael's.

This is what I use. They used to have these at Dollar Tree. I have my thinlits in another one with a different pattern.

I wish they'd carry these again! I thought the pattern looked like a Stamp!

I don't have them labeled or organized in any way. I guess I don't have that many and I basically feel every card I make needs the texture of embossing so I never forget to use them!

If you don't have many, they have the same box about half the size called an accessory box for $1.69.

BTW, I use their "medium Pure box clear" from France for my stamps in Avery Elle pockets. It's much lighter weight than Frig Binz and a little shorter. It can work for embossing folders too:

I did find that since I do not have many EFs or Dies I could fit them in the same bin. However, I plan to buy more in the future so maybe I will try that smaller container. Thanks

Wow Amber that's alot of EF's!!! I just have mine in a little Dollar Tree basket and store it on my table by my Big shot. Darice folders are the best value but the craft stores don't carry a wide varitey so my collection is small and doesn't take up much space. Love every one I have!

Instead of using fancy dividers, or cardboard packaging, etc.... i'm not worried about what company made what so I just do up a sample of the embossing folder on a matching card size, then use sponge daubers to color in the pattern so that I can see exactly what EF gives me what patterns. I think i ended up laminating them just so they'd hold up better. I keep mine in a rectangular woven basket type container I got from michaels with the colored sample sheet & the EF one behind the other. Its worked out wonderfully without a lot of extra stuff taking up room in the basket.

I have seen the refrigerator bins at Target. I like to support local stores since I live in a smallish town and we don't need any other stores leaving the area because they couldn't make it. I have mine stored in baskets I got at JoAnn which fit perfectly on my shelf. I need to have things looking nice as I have everything open. Attached is a picture of my folders in the basket and the shelf that holds that basket and two others just like it---one for dies and one for stencils.

I have mine right now in these huge portfolios that you pop them in plastic pockets. I regret that. I will be switching to bins...but I have bigger ones so I will be going for bigger boxes. I love the 2 buck shoeboxes at Container Store for all kinds of things...and I haunt their clearance corner...no lid? Perfect for me! LOL

I cut up the really cheap thin plastic cutting boards (2-3 for a buck) for the kitchen for my dies and will do the same for the EFs. I separate by topic not mfg but the EFs are labeled with mfg and folder name and maybe code.

I found that the more folders I got the longer it took to find what I need. Now when I get a folder I do a sample emboss on a strip the width of the folder and long enough to wrap over the top. I use different colours for this strip according to type of pattern e.g. nature is green, vintage brown, pink is sort of lacy patterns, etc. I then store them upright in a drawer in colour groups. I can lift out that colour, quickly flick through and choose a pattern as I usually know what style I am looking for. They are also grouped by size as that usually matters. I have a lot of folders. Hope this makes sense.

My local Fred Meyer store carries the Fridge Binz. Kroger is the parent company. I buy them when they are on sale. I use the double bin for my stamps and one for dies.
