Default Just got the Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors!

I finally caved and bought the 24-set. I can't wait to play with them. I've watched a lot of Kristina Werner's videos showing how she uses them. Does anyone have any tips or ideas to share? Here's what they look like:

I have these and love love them !!!! Just use a tiny drop of water to get started Also I moved all the pans of color around ( I like that they can be moved around). Even if a pan is wet. I can put the lid on and put it away. Very little mess

Oh also I added a tiny sticker at the base and added color so at a glance I can see the shades

Gansai Tambis are what kept me from giving up on watercolors. I loved them right off the bat. Have fun playing!

I too have the 36 pan set and love it! I used the chart on the inside of the lid to put my sample colors, but I like your idea of putting them on the outside of the pan, good idea!

I have also found them to be easy to use with a nice creamy texture, yet very transparent. I like the vibrant look of them, and have found they mix well too! I'm not a watercolor paint expert, but I have a couple sets of paints; these are a nice quality.

I have them and haven't tried them yet but I have watched lots of YouTube videos. I am struggling with watercoloring (learning) right now, so I am saving these watercolors until I get some basic watercoloring skills under my belt using other watercolor media.

This YouTube search for 'kuretake gansai' returned 'about' 3,210 results:
https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...uretake+gansai

ENJOY !!

Don't wait! Try them now! Thanks for the video link. I've already watched a few of them that I found on my own, but this is very comprehensive. I appreciate your sharing.

Does anyone know if Michaels carries anything close to the kuretake pans? I bought tubes of paints but just don't like working with them nearly as much and I'm just loving watercolor techniques.

I finally tried watercolors a few days ago. I had only ordered the set of 24 of these because I didnt know there was a 36 count collection. I ordered the 36 count and they should be here any day. Here are my first attempts with watercolors:

I'm searching local stores! Hopefully I can find the 24 set or at least something similar. They look awesome! I'm just not having any luck with the tubes of watercolor paints I got.

Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Werner have quite a number of blog posts/videos using the gansai tambi watercolors. I picked just a couple to link here but you can search both their blogs for gansai tambi. I had a hard time finding the search option on Kristina's blog. It seems so "obvious" now, but I hunted for a while. It is the magnifier icon to the right of the list of icons for all her links to facebook, twitter, instagram, etc on the upper right side.

Here are a few links:

Jennifer McGuire:
kid's watercolor cards
Watercolor and Salt
Watercolor and Stamping

Kristina Werner:
Easy Watercoloring with Gold Embossing
Holiday Card Series 2015 (easy background using gansai tambi)

Do these gansi tambi watercolors work with other brands especially peerless? I get so many collections and dont use up any of them. Each
thing Inbuy seems to lack a color or two that I need. It would be nice to use together.

I don't have these, but I did just order the Starry Colors set - they're gorgeous rich metallics that I got to play with at CHA. Molly's Square has them on special today. So excited to get them!

Mine arrived this afternoon and I cannot wait to give them a try tonight. BUT after reading the current thread on the Kuretake ZIG clean color markers, I'm worried that this set of pan water colors (purchased from Amazon) may be knock offs...anyone know how you can tell if you have the real thing? The box looks just like the one Jennifer McGuire shows on her video.

Good question. Since all the writing on the box is Japanese or Chinese. They work great in any event!

Do you mean you put the drop(s) of watercolor on top of the embossed area? I thought the embossing would act as a resist! I'll have to try it.

I apologize, I get carried away and may not always be clear when I explain something! It's my excitement over talking about techniques!!!! Let's say you stamp and emboss a flower image to paint. When you wet the the open space areas of the petals and drop the paint in those petal parts, the embossing keeps the paint in that area. You can control where you want your shading, and you can even touch the paint with a tissue or piece of paper towel to blot up excess paint or water to control your color or the look of the area. It's so much fun. You can also let the paint and water do the work and literally let the "water color" the area! Your creativity is endless, depending on what you want to do. The embossing contains the color and water in that area.

I hope I've explained myself better. If I wasn't so technically challenged I could show you with a photo. I'm so bad with doing that sort of thing (after 2 hours and no success) - it's not my talent!! I'm better with paper!!!! Good luck!!:-)

Bohemian belle - you enabled me with the new set of water colors. It has 72 colors. My kuretake set has enough and I was happy. Now I must move this new item to top of my wish list. 😎

I found the Starry Colors in stock at Ellen Hutson this morning so I ordered them right away. Can't wait to see how they look with the other Gansai Tambi colors!

Copperkids - If/when you get them, please let us know how they are! I'm dying to know how pigmented the neon colors will be. I have a thing for super bright and neon colors. I blame growing up in the 80s.. lol!
