3M Positionable Adhesive

Has anyone tried 3M Positionable Adhesive? it's used by framers for mounting artwork and becomes permanent once burnished. It comes on a roll, 50 feet long, and either 11", 16" or 24" wide.

It's an easy way to make sticker paper out of any cardstock or patterned paper that you have. It comes with a "squeegee" tool and cover sheet in order for burnishing.

I'm thinking of trying it for those thin diecut words, and also for inlaid diecuts, like the Poppy Stem from Memory Box. Also thinking of using it for the Polished Silk Technique using the microfine glitter.

I had a box of the 11" in my cart at Amazon, but now it says no longer available. I'm thinking about getting the 24" wide; I normally use 8 1/2 X 11" paper; I could cut 1/2" off the 8 1/2" side and get 3 pieces across the width. I would get the equivalent of 162 sheets of adhesive paper, which if I bought the ScorPal version or the Silhouette version would cost $1 to $2 per sheet; the 3M would come to 55 cents/sheet.

Does anyone have any experience using this? Advice? Opinions?

Oh, ouch! I just looked it up and it's expensive to take a risk. Hopefully someone has some experience with it.

Seems like using the Xyron machine would be a cheaper way to go. They have many different sizes on Amazon. You could run your cardstock through, and then cut your die cut:

3 reasons why I don't want to use a Xyron:

1. It wouldn't work for the inlaid diecuts.
2. It wouldn't work for the polished silk technique.
3. I detest how the adhesive on a Xyron oozes from behind my diecut; it ends up smearing my card front.

I have tried all 3 techniques I listed in the first post with Scorpal & Silhouette adhesive sheets, and they work great. I was looking for a more affordable alternative. I was actually at Amazon today, and had saved the 11" for later just in case they got more in. Harvestmoon, I placed my order today!

I just remembered something else I use the full-sheet adhesive for: making my own washi tape!

Okay, you got me. Those are all perfectly good reasons not to use the Xyron!

I use my Xyron for inlaid diecuts all the time. I run the cardstock through the Xyron first, then die cut it.

I have a little 2.5" Xyron, and no glue oozes. I have bought several brands of adhesive sheets in packages. One was so thick I couldn't get it to die cut! Now that I have the Sizzix metal plate I may try that again. I just saw a demo to use it for sticking glitter to your die cut, and I'm trying that next.
