Default TLC561 ~ Box Card {11/23/15}

It's Sabrina here with your challenge this week. It's been a while since I've shared a fold - I try not to inflict them on you too often ;-).
This is a Box Fold which I learned from Vicky Gould ~ she has several in her gallery, and when the CCEE Stampers had a recent "share a technique" challenge, this fold is what Vicky shared. It folds flat to fit an A2 envelope for mailing, and pops up for displaying. I noticed that Niki shared one for the TLC wreath challenge last week, and she calls it a 3D Panel card, so I guess that is another name for it.

You will need a piece of cardstock 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 1/2", 2", 4" and 5 1/2" for the card base.
To decorate the main back panel, I used two mat layers, one piece cut to 4" x 51/4", and the smaller one cut at 3 3/4" x 5".
You will also need to decorate the front part of the box - my mat layers are 4" x 1 3/4" and 1 1/2" x 3 3/4".
If you prefer smaller increments for matting - no problem! Your card, your choice.

For the pop-up front panel you need a piece of card 3" x 51/2", scored at 1/2" and 2".
And to layer the image panel, a piece of card or DP cut to 3 1/4" x 2 3/4".
And plain card for your image panel - I used a narrower mat layer and cut my image panel at 3 1/8 x 2 5/8".
You can make the front panel slightly taller if you need to accommodate a particular image, but only by a small amount. If you make it much taller, it will no longer fit in an A2 envelope. 4" is about as high as you can cut it, or 4 1/4" if you adhere it to the box flush with the bottom of the card rather than flush with the matting layers.

1: Burnish all the scores. Add adhesive of choice to the two narrow 1/2" tabs.

2: Add the decorative papers and any stamping to the card before assembling.

3: Fold the main card piece as shown in photos below and burnish to secure the adhesive.
You will have the front of the card base facing you - fold upwards along the 5 1/2" score line, and then fold the 2" score line back down so that the flap with the adhesive is ready to stick to the front of the card base. If you press the card flat as you would for folding, the tab will stick in the correct position. Take a look at photo #6 or #8 and you will be able to see this.

4: Stick the lower part of the pop-up panel to the front of the box.
Fold the pop-up panel upwards, remove backing tape from the adhesive and burnish to secure the tab to the card base.
As with assembling the card base, fold along the 2" score line, folding the top part and tab inwards, and press the card flat as for mailing - and again, this will ensure that the tab adheres in the correct position.

5: Add the mat layer and image panel to the front, and add a sentiment banner whatever way you choose to the top part of the card.

Here's my card: TLC561 Pop-Up Snowman
Vicky's sample: TLC561, Lonely Bird

 Remember to use the keyword TLC561 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

Thank you, Vicky, for introducing me to this fold and for making such a FAB Bird Crazy sample.

Sabrina, so happy to be challenged with a new fold technique. This was fun and simple.

I went CAS to cover the CAS challenge and more importantly to be simpler for me for a test run. Luv it - definitely going to make more in the future.

I found a Stampin'Up video tutorial for this:

A video is worth a thousand words and photos, for me.

Here's my Holiday Deer

Sabrina, your instructions were fabulous!!! I changed mine just a bit so that the gift card was more of the focal point. My card will fold the opposite direction than the one in your instructions. This way it still remains eligible for an A2 envelope.

Oh, tootles! It's me again! ...with yet another one of these fun designs. I like that the center piece is flexible to work with a design, as here I made it a tad smaller to look better with the smaller stamp.
