Splitcoaststampers.com - the world's #1 papercrafting community
You're currently viewing Splitcoaststampers as a GUEST. We pride ourselves on being great hosts, but guests have limited access to some of our incredible artwork, our lively forums and other super cool features of the site! You can join our incredible papercrafting community at NO COST. So what are you waiting for?
Splitcoaststampers is proud to partner with the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center for our sixth annual month long card drive to benefit those affected by breast cancer.
Whether your stamps cling to acrylic, wood, or to your hard drive, they hold the power to convey hope and lift the spirits of anyone who sees what you create with them. That is the inspiration for our Hope You Can Cling To stamping campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
When we began this event, we kicked this campaign off on World Card Making Day - a day of celebration of the power of a handmade card. The year we began, WCMD was October 1st, and so that is now our official kickoff date each year. We encourage papercrafters across the globe to put their talents to work creating beautiful handmade cards to send to patients and their families at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and, in the process, turn our gallery pink!
Hope is powerful medicine. Here is part of a letter from MD Anderson after last year's event:
On behalf of the breast cancer patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas Id like to say thank you for the beautiful handmade cards that you sent to us! The Hope You Can Cling To month long campaign was very much appreciated. The volunteers in our Breast Center enjoyed filling baskets with these special cards. As they made their visits each day and introduced themselves to patients, they encouraged each to select one of your handmade cards. These special cards truly offered hope and lifted the spirits of everyone during Breast Cancer Awareness month! I personally have had the pleasure of opening each envelope. What beautiful work you all have done for our patients. - Maggi Suttles, Assistant Director, Volunteer Services, UT MD Anderson Cancer Center
Many in our community have been affected by breast cancer, directly or indirectly. We would love for each of the patients at the UT MD Anderson cancer center and their families to feel this same encouragement and inspiration and we know this community always rises to a challenge.
There will be special challenges in our SplitcoaststampersHope You Can Cling To Challenge Forum to inspire you throughout the month, and we will have some fun giveaways, including of course, some pink! We'll begin the campaign with three challenges on October 1st, and we will have challenges each day in October. So keep watching this space as we approach the exciting kickoff of Hope You Can Cling To!
I convinced my paper crafting group at a nearby craft store to use breast cancer awareness as the theme for our next swap. Hopefully I can talk them into slipping their swaps into my hycct box...

EXCITED!!! Except, I'm having a baby sometime mid-October LOL!!! So! Wondering how far along I'll get!!! Got lots of new goodies, plus I'd like to use as much of my TCP stamps that I won last year on my cards in honor of that glorious win!
I took part a couple years ago and it forced me to stretch my creativity--a painful thing when one has very little to stretch! It also gave me a reason to create. It's so much easier to justify making something if there's a chance that it will actually get used.
And I hope the ladies on this forum will heed the pink message: According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control, breast cancer is the number one cancer affecting women. It is also one of the most treatable forms of cancer--if it is caught early. Self exams and mammograms are key to early detection.

Thanks! I'm due around the 17th. I'm feeling good, just get tired easily. Weary seems to be my word lately. I have a 16, 12 and almost 2 1/2 year old....
I have had such a busy summer with little time to make cards or comment on other stampers cards. I am planning to get back in the creating and commenting mode, and what better time than Hope You Can Cling month. I sure would love to do all the challenges....I had breast cancer and a double mastectomy when I was 42....I am celebrating 15 years cancer free. What better way to celebrate than to encourage others.
I'm new to this all and hope to be able to keep up, or at least follow along enough to know what I should be making. I"m thrilled to be able to apply my talents to something this important. Thank you for running this program.

What are the cards? Like a support thought with a personal note inside?
Where do we send them? Directly to the place? Is there an address/contact person or is someone collecting them all at the end of the month to ship one big box?

Welcome Cara! Let us know if you have questions - I looke forward to chatting with you and seeing your cards.
Sadly I'm swamped this month...just got back from traveling to my Great Aunts funeral, and am now behind on my major cleaning I have to do before we have company coming in for my brothers wedding at the end of the month...so I won't be able to play at my craft table and join in the fun. One of these days maybe life will slow down enough that I can get back to it...but it's not looking good till after Thanksgiving at the rate we are going. :( Hopefully I can join in next year...although this is a bad time of year for me, so we will see. If we didn't have the wedding, I would have a little more time. Have fun everyone!! :-))
Hi! I'm new to this challenge and my question might be silly. Is it only only cards sending to the patients/family of MD Anderson Cancer Center that can be enter into the challenge? Or can it be one that sent to other survivor of breast cancer that's not a patient/family of the MD Anderson Cancer Center?

Since MD Anderson is our partner for the drive, we do prefer that you mail your cards there - but you can enter any card into the challenge We just want to uplift people who are undergoing treatment.
Thank you Lydia for clarifying. This awareness is close to my heart. My sister in law is a survivor and the card I just finished is for her. But I would very much like to send out one to MD Anderson center too.
