Default Stella Lighting

Has anyone bought one of these lights? Are they worth the money?
I found them on Amazon for $158.00 that is a lot of money for lighting.

Your link to the light doesn't seem to work.

It the light is similar to an Ott, I would not pay the money. I didn't want to pay the money for an Ott, and found a great daylight spectrum light at Big Lots for about $30 several years ago. It's a standing light with a gooseneck and I use it every time I craft.

I have a much cheaper one too. It works great. I bought it on CL for $15 but I think originally it was 45 or 50. That just seems extremely pricey. I would see if your local craft store has them and go look at them in person.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies, and I agree about the price. I hate to spend that much money on a light. I will look around and see if I can find something that works for me.

I think the big rave about the Ott lights was that it allowed quilters to see "true" colors. I tried one and didn't see what all the hoopla was about. Any task lamp should work fine.

This is timely for me because I got a Michaels gift card for Christmas and was thinking maybe Ott light with a coupon....

I just don't understand all the lighting information....Lumens? Don't know which is better. Anyone have a brand they love? Also, if I would just buy a special lighting bulb, how do I know I can use it in the lamps I already have? I currently have clip on lamps that take 40 Watt type A bulbs. 120 V. 60 Hz. Recommendations? Should I just get a new lamp?

Kathy, do I remember that you don't buy online? If so, here is a lamp that is very much like the one I have, and they have it at Walmart. It gets good reviews and is a good price. Check it out:

Trademark Global 5' Sunlight Floor Lamp - Walmart.com

I think you would be better off getting something like this, instead of an Ott, and use your gift card at Mike's for something else.

Yes, you remember right, Bugga. But I do buy online at Walmart because you can choose to pay cash, go to the store and pay for it, and free shipping to the store! Thanks. I will check these out in person next time I'm at Walmart!

Great, Kathy. Glad you can use that cash option at Walmart. I will tell you, though, that sometimes they do not have the stock in the store that they sell online, so you may have to order it and have it sent to your store.

I just bought an Ott light on deep discount at JoAnn, and I can tell you it does make a big difference! I was having such trouble seeing details at my craft table, and this light from another room looks like I have a window open, even at night. Joann listed it as retailing for $69 and it was on sale for $22.50. One of the best craft purchases I've made in the past 12 months. And I had trouble getting the bulb in, called the Ott 800 number and they were fantastic.

Is it a floor lamp or a desk lamp? I'm still researching what I want. Michaels has 50% off starting Monday so I thought I might check them out with that kind of discount.

I have several OTT lights that I like. One is a floor lamp in my craft room with a flexible neck that is good to shine the light around the room and the other is a battery powered portable light (LOVE!!!) I take with me if I'm Jammie stamping (staying overnight and staying until all hours stamping in our Jammies) with friends. I bought them at Joann's when they were 50% off years ago.

In typical JoAnn.com fashion, I now can't find the light I just bought, but it's very similar to this one, a desktop model that also has storage which is very handy:

I think I'd like the floor model. The lamp I use now is a clip on so it's clipped to my shelf right where I need it. I would just get a daylight bulb for it, but the Maximum bulb that lamp takes is 40 watt and I cant' get a big lumens number with only 40 watts. I'm anxious to see what I can find at Michaels with the 50% off coupon because I have a $100 gift card I could use.

So I cheated. I bought an Ott bulb and put it in my clip on lamp. So far Im' loving it and it only cost me $6. It said 60W but only uses 10 w so I'm hoping it's okay in a 40 watt lamp. It is 900 lumens.

O.P.~~I looked up Stella on Amazon and I think you are paying for styling and the name. I bought an OTT light on a big sale and I am WAAYY unimpresed. It's not very bright and colors are not as clear as with incandescent or sunlight. I have all that in my craft room, and the most used lamp is a clamp-on hinged swing-arm normal incandescent craft or sewing light, I think it's from IKEA, but you can get one at any hobby store for less than $25.
Muscrat~~ I just checked out the very cute card you posted, and I have that same pad of paper (LOVE IT) and in the posting using OTT light the colors appear duller/dimmer than in real life. Thanks for the cool idea of stacking all those layers of different patterns!

I bought four of that same paper stack because I loved it too!

So far, I'm liking the Ott lightbulb. Much better lighting than what I had at least. And only $6.

I tried Ott lights and daylight bulbs and I didn't like them. None were bright enough and I couldn't tell the difference for viewing actual colors.

I use incandescent and LED strip lights that I really like.

Luckily, in light bulbs there is no right or wrong I adore my new Ott light and think it takes great pictures. If anyone is curious about it, I would try muskrat's excellent idea for replacing another kind of bulb with an Ott light bulb (if it fits) to see what you think.

My mom's eyesight is almost non-existent due to macular degeneration. I got an Ott light for her a while back and it's helped her a great deal. Seems to give her much better definition than the other lamps she's tried.
