CNY Stampers Get Together -- #18
Saturday, November 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
First United Church of East Syracuse
823 Franklin Park Drive, East Syracuse
Do join us at our next Central New York Stampin' Get Together -- a full day of stamping fun!
Cost – $25.00 per person. Registrations are to paid by noon on September 29. Mail registration form and payment to me (info is in the registration form). There are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else.
There is a lot of info to digest but reading through it should help answer many questions. If any clarification is needed, just ask. This thread is our main way to communicate with you and we are here to help! You will find final counts and other important info here on page 1 once the event is closed.
Mandatory Table Project (aka “shoebox”) – There will be table projects in the morning AND the afternoon, so bring your idea and all the supplies (in kits) needed for making your project with your tablemates in the morning; another group will make your exact same card in the afternoon so please provide basic written instructions since you won’t be there with your project. Your project stays stationary; you’ll do the moving. Your project can be a full card, including layers and embellishment(s), or any other project that involves stamping.
When our final count is in, you will know the table sizes and how many kits will be needed. You will also need four completed copies of your project. This will generally be a full card, with layers and embellishment(s) and should *NOT* take more than 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Please provide any special adhesive that's needed. So, just to say it another way: Bring 4 completed projects + make up 17 packets of materials **in kits** to make your project. Extra parts to fix any "oops" should also be provided.
Your project for the morning and afternoon should be all the same. Please use only quality products and make these something you’d be thrilled to get yourself.
I anticipate that there will be four tables but the count per table depends on the number who sign up. I’m hoping for 10/table. [NOTE: Actual count after closing is 9 at one table and 8 at the other.]
NOTE: Because you will be switching tables, but your projects staying behind, it is CRITICAL that you provide basic directions for your project unless it is VERY obvious. Please include your name and SCS name as well. Thank you!
Swaps – ALL SWAPS ARE OPTIONAL. You’ll know how many to make when we post the final counts, and you’ll have plenty of notice since the deadline is well in advance of the event. Each swap will include a +1 for a door prize. The hostess and her assistant would also love to receive one of your swaps if you’re so inclined.
--NVR Card Front Swap - Final Count 23 -- Post #12
--Recipe Swap – Final Count 19-- Post #8
--ATC Swap – Final Count 13 -- Post #9
--Holiday Tag – Final Count 23 -- Post #10
--SU! Demo Quality* Swap – Final Count 15 -- Post #11
*This means only current SU! products can be used but you don’t need to be a demonstrator to participate.
--2.25" Squares -- Final Count 18 -- Post #7
With this swap, you'll be able to create a 12x12 frame (you supply the frame and mats). It's kind of a cross between 3x3 cards and ATCs. See specifics in Post #xx. This one is also an SUO swap with specific current products.
Food – Please indicate on the registration form the specific food item you will bring to share. Please don’t just say “food” or “whatever you need”. Ideas: breakfast items, lunch items, including salads, desserts and snacks. We love to try your homemade food specialties! Bottled water and coffee will be provided. BYO soda if you want it.
Make & Take for All – Because of doing shoebox projects in the a.m. and p.m., we will have only one or two large group projects. If you have a great idea for one, please tell me what it is.
“Garage Sale” – Bring your stamps and stamping supplies to sell or trade. Current Stampin’ Up! items must be offered for trade only; you can sell retired items. Sorry but we can’t be responsible for missing items so bring things at your own risk.
Goodie Bags – for everyone! Goodie bags will all have the same value but may have some variation in colors, etc. You know it will be great.
Door Prizes – Still hoping to have one for everyone so donations from our group are most welcome. Let me know if you’d like to make a door prize donation and what it is. Our participants are always so generous! We will be awarding the +1’s from all of the swaps as well as the extras sets from the shoebox projects as door prizes. We’ll have another 50/50 raffle to support the event for next time as well.
Gift Swap – You don’t have to sign up for this one, but if you would like to participate, bring a gift related to our stamping passion. Everyone who brings a gift to swap will also leave with one. Value on these should be in the $5-10 range, and stamped projects are always appreciated! If it’s something you’d like to take home, it’s probably perfect! Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank. Wrap it up prettily to encourage “stealing”. REMEMBER: Stamping-related!!!
Other – Please bring your own labeled items for your personal stamping needs, including your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just can’t stamp without, like: bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, stamp cleaner and whatever else you can't stamp without! Did I say adhesive????? Adhesive! You will likely need lots of it.
Nametags – These will be provided but feel free to make your own if you'd rather.
Don't forget your camera!
REMEMBER: Complete the registration form and forward with your $25 payment by noon on September 29. All funds collected will be spent on the event (room rental and set up, drinks, paper products and so on). Your registration is complete when your payment is received. If you have any questions, please ask! Looking forward to seeing you in November.
Swap Etiquette -- These are some good general guidelines that I found on SCS. I hope everyone will take these guidelines seriously so that we all make and receive wonderful swaps!
These are also good guidelines to keep in mind for your shoebox project, except that you're providing materials to make a full card rather than just a front and you won't need a "recipe" (but you do need directions).
1) Quality work -- This isn't about the quantity of layers or embellishments (please do use a MINIMUM of one embellishment and two layers), or whether you are new at this or not. "Quality" means straight cuts with no crooked, fuzzy edges, tears, wrinkles, etc. (unless that is part of the design), attaching your layers straight (again, unless part of your design), stamping images clearly with fully inked stamps, etc. If you make a noticeable mistake while stamping your swaps, turn the cardstock over, or cover with another layer. Last of all, quality means to use cardstock that is a nice weight not some flimsy stuff that has the feel of construction paper.
2) "Recipes" -- appreciated but not required. This means: your SCS name; your IRL name; listing the colors, stamp sets and embellishment you used; any techniques or tips you want to include. If you choose not to include a recipe, please include at least your name so we know who made your fab creation. Avery labels work great, but a plain piece of paper or your personalized stamp work just as well.
3) There are two swaps requiring all current Stampin' Up! products this time so please be sure to read before committing. All other swaps can use any quality stamps, cardstock, inks, etc. This is not the time to unload your cheap cardstock! Please, nothing flimsy!
4) Would you like to receive your swap or make your shoebox project? Then it's PERFECT!
5) Swap sizes: NVR card front & DQ -- smaller than 4.25 x 5.5, please. Recipes swaps are 6x6. Other swap size specifics are noted in the write ups.
Please ask any questions you might have and someone will be sure to answer. We have all made a lot of great friends getting together at these gatherings so we hope you’ll join us at this one!
Resummarizing: Layers - at least two! Dig into those embellishments, give your fellow swappers a real treat! Put those punches to work! Have fun, try something different! Show some pride and put your name on the back!!
Food Info -- Please remember when making/purchasing your food item that you do not need enough to feed an army. There should be a very nice variety coming: donuts - cake - muffins - sticky buns - cookies - brownies - candy - chips & dip - specialty dips - casseroles/main dish items - salads and side dishes - bread & butter - cheese & crackers - fruit - and more.
So, my suggestion is to make/bring a "normal" amount not a super size. I am sure there will still be leftovers but everyone should be able to find something they like. If you don't believe that to be the case, please feel free to pack your own lunch. We do have a refrigerator and stove available and there are plenty of outlets to plug in crockpots. There will NOT be a microwave available unless someone brings it!
FOOD EXPECTED:
Breakfast -- sweets: assorted breakfast "cakes" and "breads"; breakfast casseroles
Lunch -- sides: chef salad, fruit salad, scalloped pineapple, cheesy potatoes, tabouli salad, beans, pasta salad, fruit, veggies & dip; main dishes: chili, meatballs & sauce, chicken salad, broccoli-chicken divan w/rice, chowder; bread & butter
Snacks/Desserts -- dips/appetizers: bacon wrapped smokies, spinach-artichoke dip, chili dip, rye dip, mushroom dish; sweets: pumpkin bars, apple pie dip, caramel brownies, chocolate chips & sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, graham cracker toffee; candies on the tables and no doubt chocolate rocks will be passed
Drinks -- There will be juices, cider, bottled water and coffee. If you must have soda, please BYO.
REMINDER: If you are bringing something that is to be served HOT, please remember that there is NO microwave available. We do have access to a refrigerator and stove (with oven).
DIRECTIONS to First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive. Get the specifics from mapquest.com or randmcnally.com. But, generally speaking, most everyone will be taking Rte. 481 (from 81, 690 or 90) and exiting at Kirkville Road WEST (exit 5W). Franklin Park Drive is way less than a mile from the exit and will be on your right. After the exit, you will pass one light, two gas stations at the corner where the light is, and a school (Bishop Grimes). The church is just a short way up Franklin Park Drive and will also be on your right. Parking is in the back.
If you have headed in the wrong direction on Kirkville Road and get to that light, you will see a church on your left and houses on the right. That's Fremont Road; turn around and come back the other way.
When the event closes, this first page is where you will find all the updated info on the swaps, etc. Info will be updated as registrations arrive and the final details should be posted shortly after the October 7 deadline.
Shoebox Project -- Some hints and some pleas:
** Your shoebox project (AND all swaps) should be AT LEAST *2* layers and it should include an embellishment, unless the design absolutely won't allow for this.
** Please "kit" your items. What does this mean? Place all pieces of card stock, embellishments, etc. needed to make your project into an envelope or baggie for each person. Why? (1) It protects your supplies from damage, like stray ink spotches. (2) It prevents random grabbing of your supplies, thus ensuring enough for everyone at the table. Save those junk mail envelopes; they're perfect to hold your kits.
** Please place out enough packets for the MORNING (plus extras for "oops"). You will set out your remaining supply for the afternoon. Why? Mainly because it ensures that there are enough supplies for the afternoon stampers. Yes, we have come up short in the past.
** Please do NOT get too crazy with your project. The time allotted per project is only 5 to 10 minutes, not 20! Why? Well, if all projects took 20 minutes to create, we'd be there stamping til midnight. While we are not on a strict schedule, the day does move along and everyone enjoys being able to take a real lunch break and participate in the swaps that usually surround lunchtime without stressing that they haven't finished all the morning table projects. Whew!
** A thought for you speedy stampers...I know that some of you are very quick and find yourselves at loose ends before the rest of your table is finished. May I suggest that you ASK those who've fallen behind if they would appreciate some help in getting some "parts" done to help them finish up?
** Slower stampers...Please don't be offended if someone offers to help you complete some "parts" or ask for some help if you see that others have finished.
Gift Swap -- Wrap it up as nice as you please. "Snitching" encouraged as part of the fun. Your gift can be handmade or purchased, but please be sure that it is stamping related.
Tables -- Tables are assigned randomly when you arrive. If you really, really (really) need to be with your friend (I'm saying this more for the newbies), we will try to accommodate you but the random assignments really do make for a good way to make new friends. Plus, you and your friend(s) will have different projects to share. Well, unless you're randomly assigned to the same table. Then, you're welcome to ask someone at another table to switch with you. You will be at one table in the morning and a different table (but with the same table mates) in the afternoon.
Schedule for the day will be posted later.
SCHEDULE:
Here's what the day looks like in general. Please understand that adjustments will be made as needed.
9:50-10:30
**Check in & get your table assignment. Your table will be identified on the back of your placemat. Your morning table will be red, green, pink or blue. (Red & green will switch for the afternoon as will pink & blue)
**Leave any door prize donations with me.
**If you have money for me, please be sure that it's in an envelope that includes your name and the amount on the outside.
**Find your nametag (near check in); nametags will be in alpha order by first name.
**Drop off food to kitchen.
**Shoeboxes: Pin one of your completed shoebox projects to the board (make sure you pin it to the board designated for your table -- red/green or pink/blue), leave a completed shoebox project in each of the two containers near board, the last completed one goes with you to your table as your sample.
**Swaps: Put one each of your swaps out (hang onto the rest for swapping) and check your name off the list(s) as you do that. All the final swap counts are listed on the first page.
**Gift Swap: Place your wrapped gift swap on back table (participation optional) and be sure to get a playing card for that. Your name should be included inside the packaging.
**Chat with friends or make some new friends. Head back to your table.
10:30 Intros with your table head; she'll also let you know what to expect in terms of making the projects. Expect to describe your project, especially anything that's not obvious. Remember that some basic written directions should also be there for those who will make your project later.
10:45-12:15 Morning shoebox projects.
If you're hungry at all (morning or afternoon), please feel free to take a break and graze any time.
Please neaten up your spot before you get started with lunch. We don't want any spills on the projects and we also need room to eat lunch. Thanks.
Projects stay behind and people will switch tables after lunch. Please don't try switching before it's time although you certainly may move to have lunch with your friends. Tables 1 & 4 will switch as will 2 & 3.
12:15-1:30 Lunch, garage sale and swapping. I will be calling the swaps randomly so please don’t stray too far.
1:30-3:15 Afternoon shoebox projects
3:15-5:00 Door prizes and gift swap. Gift swap will be last so that those not participating can depart early if desired. (Sorry to see you go!)
5:00 Clean up. So helpful!
6:30 Greenwood Winery & Bistro (East Syracuse) for dinner. You are welcome to stop at my house for the break between where we typically sit and chat and take a breather.
It would help me to know how many plan to stay for dinner so please LMK by email, PM or responding here on the thread. Thanks.
Goodie bags will be delivered to you personally at the table where you're stamping in the morning. I plan to hand out your door prize tickets then, too. Don't lose that! You will also have a chance to purchase 50/50 tickets. Proceeds go towards buying door prizes for next time and of course the winner takes home the other half.
You can see there's a lot going on at check in time so it really helps if you can arrive closer to 10 rather than earlier. Thanks for understanding.

FINAL COUNT IS 19 / 21 (one for Linda and one for helper)
For this November's 6X6 Recipe swap I thought maybe do something just a little different. Since the cooler weather will be here, what about giving your FAVORITE Crock-Pot recipe as your swap recipe? If you don't have one that is okay I just thought maybe it would be fun since I know I am always looking for new Crock-Pot recipes. This is not a requirement for the swap though. The main requirement is to have something stamped on your 6X6 recipe swap.
Would love for you to make a couple extra to give to Linda and her helper. It would be appreciated!!

It's my pleasure to organize the NVR (No Vendor Required) at Fall Stamping in CNY get together. Please note the following guidelines:
NVR Card Swap
There are no vendor restrictions on this swap. This is a CARD FRONT ONLY swap. (Full cards are welcome but not required.)
Please make the fronts smaller --> 4 x 5-1/4 . The smaller size will allow the fronts to be easily mounted to a full card if the recipient so desires.
Reminders about swap etiquette are listed in post #2.
2 extra swaps for Linda and her helper would be appreciated.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have additional questions.

Reason: additional information
this is on the demo side:
It's my pleasure to introduce you to our newly selected Creative Crew for September through December, 2014!
I know that you're going to find lots of new ideas and inspiration from these ladies as they share their creativity with Stampin' Up! products. SCS will share a new round of Creative Crew Challenges in the Creative Crew Gallery on the 1st day of each month.
The frame is one of those 12 x12 scrapbook page metal frames found in any of the local craft stores. There is a bit of flex to what can fit behind the glass.
Quilt Square Swap ~ I was wondering about the quilt squares. So they should only be designed as a quilt pattern? Not objects such as last event? We use the SU colors requested but not the DP paper? Does that mean we only use solid papers or we can add any whatever printed paper we choose?? Im sorry I just need to have some more clarification.
Holiday tag swap ~ This swap is not for Christmas Holiday tags? It is for any kind of event? Im sorry I think Holidays and think Christmas
BTW ~ I LOVE THE CROCKPOT RECIPE ideas for this time of year! May I suggest if you do plan on bringing your cooked recipe for event make sure you have some sort of cord to plug in just in case? ~ Linda?

Thanks ladies for clearing up for me!
your choice of holiday. my idea is not to limit your choice/design.

Melanie, I will keep in mind that a power strip might be a good thing to bring along but I know that there are many outlets. I doubt that we'll have that many crockpots as it's usually an overabundance of cookies and other sweets that we have even though I try to keep it "even".
As for your question on the squares, I am going to let Diane respond. I think the word "quilt" just got thrown in because when they're laid out they may resemble a quilt ??? (See the pics that were shared.) The most important parts of this swap are: (1) size of square, (2) use of colors specified (and only the DSP noted, not others), and (3) only current SU! products.
And, about those holiday tags, yes, they can be any holiday but it is my best guess that at this time of year what will be swapped will be mostly beautiful Christmas tags.
Thanks Linda, and I will try NOT to bring a sweet...lol!
As for tags, thank you. I would only want to swap Christmas tags, as I dont even use tags...lol I just join this and turn the tags into holiday cards since I always need Christmas Cards at this time of year! What better way than to get 25 different ones back and I can just make it a card and send it right out...lol
Quit Squares, I did join in the spring swap and LOVED IT! So I am aware of that type of swap, I guess the word quilt just threw me off since I have dabbled in quilting All I could think of was tiny little folded/cut papers like a bear claw or wedding ring...lol!
Plus it does say that "you do NOT have to use the DP, just the same colors" So I am assuming if you use any type of patterned paper it has to some what match the SU colors used? I wonder if any will be Christmas themed, I would like to do one of those too ;)
