Farmer Black had a Farm, E-I-E-I-O
Note: Anyone is welcome to play! You automatically become a Teapotter the first time you play in our challenge. Also, you do not have to write a story. You just have to be inspired by the teapot or by the story about this week's location! Have fun! If this is your first Teapot Tuesday Challenge, please mention that in your commentary so we can be sure to greet you properly, in pure Teapot Tuesday fashion! Your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not at all required. Just have fun!
The Rest of the Story:
1: Ol' Farmer Black was one heck of a farmer. He wasn't an educated man but he sure knew how to farm. He knew how to get the soil to give up it's nourishment to the seeds he planted and grow the vegetables he loved to eat. Now as any gardener or good farmer knows, sometimes you just have to much of a good thing and need to find a way to use up some of the surplus. And all of Farmer Black's neighbors were farmers too, they didn't need his excess, they had their own. One day, as luck would have it, Farmer Black was in town and happened to overhear the preacher man talking about the food bank having troubles. What with this economy, there were more folks than ever that were coming in for help and the donations were lower than they ever had been because everyone was needing to tighten the belt where they could.
2: Well, a lightbulb went off in Farmer Black's head....he knew just where to get the best vegetables around because he grew them. He knew that the nutrition in those fresh from the farm vegies was ever so much better than those canned things that someone called vegetables. Yes sirree....he knew what to do about this shortfall and he just knew that his neighbors would be glad to donate some too, they just needed to be made aware of the situation.
3: All this made Farmer Black a very happy man because he didn't like to see the earth laying fallow without producing a crop either. That was a total waste in his way of thinking. So he got to work tilling, and discing, and working that ground under. Then he set about adding compost, and fish emulsion and some of that good ol' brown gold too. (That would be manure for you city slickers) Then he piled on layers of grass clippings, chopped leaves and some crushed eggshells for good measure. After all this was done, the seedlings went in and the waterin and weedin began but it wasn't long before all that work began to pay off when the most luscious tomatoes, peppers and okra started ripening and gettin ready to be harvested. Farmer Black was so excited that he was gonna be able to help them poor folks have some good vittles to eat.
4: Harvesting is going good and the trucks are making regular trips into town and the Food Bank shelves are overflowin with baskets and boxes of colorful fresh vegies. The neighbors are starting to show up with their extras too and wanting to have Farmer Black take them into town with his load. Rut-Roh.....this is where a little problem surfaces. These farmers are all so good at what they do that there is now a pile of vegies weighing about 42,000 lbs. and the trucks can't handle more than 40,000 lbs at a time. Teapotters, we need your help; we have to get these vegies to town. We can't be letting them rot on the ground after all the work that has been done to grow and harvest all this bounty.
Challenge Translation:
Bring trucks, bring tractors, even a wagon or two. Bring a way to get these vegies to town.
EPEC-extra points for extra credit:
A cheerful verse or a great big howdy is all that's needed this week. Farmer Black needs some cheer.
