Default Vinyl & eClips 2

Do you need to use a cutting mat with Vinyl when using eClips2?

Is there any way to cut it longer than 24"?

Also what is the best place to get clear contact paper, online?

If I want to use Vinyl for both walls and for making gifts and hence using it on glasses, jars, etc, would the Matte re-positionable work for both? Or does it have to be glossy one for the latter?

I finally manged to sign up for the forum and post my first query

PS I also just discovered Vinyl so quite excited

I am not sure about how to cut vinyl with the Eclips 2, but here is some info on vinyl for cutting machines. I can't wait to see more of what the Eclips will do.

I can answer some of your questions:

Yes, you do need a mat to cut vinyl with the eClips (and for whatever you cut on it!)

I know the longest mat made is a 24" so I think that would be the longest cut you could make on an eClips.

I use the semi-clear repositionable contact vinyl and I buy it at Walmart in the housewares department. A roll goes a long way! I use it to place on top of my vinyl cut after "weeding" away what I don't want on my design, and it works better than the stuff sold by Cricut for the same purpose.

I think it is up to you what type of vinyl you use - matte or glossy!

One thing to keep in mind is vinyl for outdoor use - don't use indoor vinyl for anything exposed to the sun - it will shrink eventually! You can use outdoor vinyl for just about anything!

The Cricut vinyl is Oracal brand vinyl - so buy the Oracal on line in larger pieces - it's cheaper! (I've purchased from Expressions Vinyl a while back, but just do a search for Oracal vinyl. You can actually purchase entire rolls of Oracal much cheaper than pieces.)

I hope this helps!

I had a Cricut Expression and last Christmas I got an eClips and I've never looked back! Love mine! (and I've yet to purchase a cartridge or use a cartridge to cut anything!)

Now if I could just figure out how to get all my 20 Cricut cartridges into svg files, I'd be one happy crafter!
