Default Gelatos

I am just learning about Gelatos made by Faber Castell and wondered if anyone has any experience working with them. Seeing the gorgeous colors and just a few projects left me thinking I just gotta try this new medium. Knowing they are water based, works with water color pencils etc. is great but I want to hear from you experienced gals who've worked with them. Are they worth the investment? Thanks to you all!

I love my Gelatos. I love to apply them and then use a water brush with water to go over and it looks so lovely like watercolors but are very vibrant. I also love to color on a stamp directly and mist and stamp.

Here is a card I made using them this week

I have been collecting the Gelatos for sometime now. I love using them mostly for Art Journaling and creating backgrounds. I also like to use the Gelatos to create water color images with my stamps. These are so so fun to use. Give them a try!!

I'm a Gelatos fan too. Here is a background that I did in like two minutes by scribbling them onto a stamp and misting with water.

Gelatos are fun and so are the cheaper priced gel sticks. I cannot tell the difference in how they look or preform. I have several projects and videos on my blog: gelatos | Search Results | Thefrugalcrafter's Weblog BAM! bookstores has the metallic and regular gel sticks (sets of 6 and 12) in clearence for $3 and $5 so it is a great way to try them for cheap;)

Your card is so vibrant and beautiful. I can't wait to get to it with these little gel pens. So, how'd ya make the flower? Was it a stamp or what? LOL
Thanks.

I don't think they are much different than water colour crayons, water based markers or other water colour mediums but they are nice and if you don't have those, a good investment. I find the colours to be a bit bright myself.

Is there a way to stop them from remaining water soluble? Once they are dry, can you re-activate them with water, or heat dry them? Sometimes you want things that are no longer runny when new things get put on top. ?????

The flower is a die cut and stamp set from Impression Obsession (Hydrangea). I used gelatos on that too. Just scribbled on paper and used that for die cutting.

Well, after watching videos and seeing all the beautiful samples, I have decided this is not a product I need. I think I can get a similar effect if I wanted with the products I have. I am trying to use what I have, weed out what I don't use, and not buy more stuff just because it is out there.

how do you keep the gelatos from smudging? i find them to be like oil pastels, going much farther than the page they're colored on, & that discourages me from using them. even those projects that can be sprayed with a fixative still manage to smudge. any tips for minimizing this? thanks!

I love gelatos! The only thing I can add is that they store nicely in the mini mister organizer (the regular size ones ... not the double scoops):

I too have a question that I need to run by you gals (and guys).

Do any of you have problems adhering layers or embellishments on top of Gelato-ed surfaces?

Most of all the adhesive I have tried does not stick well. (Glossy Accents, scor-tape, multi matte medium, tombow mono multi, Scotch Quick dry, Hot Glue, Glue-Dots, Zots)

I am kinda at a loss.

Any help would be appreciated,
Valerie

I seal each layer with gel medium when I am working in my art journals. This seals each layer so you can add other layers without disturbing the bottom one. Less is better with this medium, as stated before you can always add more.
Search for Vicky Papaionnou on You Tube, her art journal pages are beautiful and she uses gelatos a lot.
