Default TLC477 ~ What's the Point? ~ {4/14/14}

Hopefully you aren't a procrastinator like I am. I am still crazy working on taxes! Two more days~! If you ARE done (like I SHOULD be), or don't have taxes due Tuesday, then maybe you will have time to play along in our Technique Challenge today:

POINTILLISM

Create a card or project using DOTS to color your background and/or part of your image.

This technique is known as POINTILLISM.

ETA: In painting, pointillism is the practice of applying small strokes or dots of contrasting color to a surface so that from a distance they blend together. The term was first used to describe the paintings of Georges Seurat. Other notable painters using this technique early on were Camille Pissarro and Paul Signac.

I have attached some thumbnails of Impressionistic work for you to browse.
DD Alum Christine Okken has a FABULOUS tutorial on this technique.

My sample: YOU ROCK

TLC477 Gallery Submissions

KEYWORD: TLC477 (no spaces)
Hope you will play along!

Fun challenge to use a technique devised by a Post-Impressionist painter, Judy. Thanks

Smile TLC477 Country Easter

What a cool technique! I had fun doing "dot, dot, dot" for the outline of my bird, and for my background, along with my tulip stems. Sponged a yellow and purple background. Here's Country Easter

Heart TLC477 Dot Dot Dot Tulip

I had fun with lots of green dots for this botanical style tulip stamped image, combined with SU's Blessed Easter. Used a hair clip to show the second sponged yellow layer- the inside of the card- and a finger puppet- a bunny of course! Here's Dot Dot Dot Tulip

Such a fun technique that I made two. The first has the pointillism mainly in the bg and the second is completely colored using the technique.

Just a note about this technique. I had never heard of it, but when I took my card into the local shop today, the YOUNGER girl, about the age of my kids, said "oh we did that in art class in school"! I know I have seen paintings like that, but was surprised they taught it in school- locally! There are some really neat cards in the gallery! I will have to try this more often! Thanks for the challenge and bringing something REALLY new to me!
