2014 Cards For A Cause
March MISSION Stamp from the Heart!
ORGANIZATION BEING FEATURED: COLES FOUNDATION Description of Organization: COLE'S STORY
In June 2008 three year old Cole Ruotsala, a beautiful blonde haired blue eyed little boy was doing what most boys his age love to do-playing with his Tonka trucks. And like most rough and tumble little boys, he fell. Complaining of stomach pains, his parents took him for a medical examination. Indeed, that�s what the doctors thought it was, a simple injury to his abdomen. Cole went home and life went on as usual. His family had no inkling how their lives� and Cole�s� were about to be turned upside down.
History
On July 24, 2008, Cole again complained of severe stomach �owies.� Again, he went to the hospital. It was then that tests revealed Cole had much more than an owie. He was diagnosed with Adreno-Cortical Carcinoma-a rare form of childhood cancer.
Less than two months later, on September 19th, his parent�s worst nightmare was realized. Cole died in their arms.
During the weeks following his initial diagnosis, Cole�s family experienced an overwhelming amount of support from friends, from family, and from complete strangers. It was amazing� overwhelming.And the vast majority of that support arrived via the World Wide Web.
Cole�s Foundation was created as a tribute to this little boy who fought so hard and touched so many. Recognizing the incredible needs of families struggling through the nightmare of caring for a child with a terminal illness, the organization was created to utilize the 21st century�s technology to provide support and assistance to families facing the most devastating challenge that a parent could face, the illness and death of a beloved child.
Cole's Legacy
The legacy of Cole, which is the message of love, would inspire all of us to be helpers of one another in this broken world. Through this, we encourage all to a saving faith in Jesus Christ, to come to know Him for this is eternal life; Jesus is worthy of all honor and praise.

TYPE OF CARDS REQUESTED: Thinking of you, Birthday, Funny, Uplifting, Colorful, Cheerful, Spiritual, Encouraging cards for babies, children, teens and young adults. Cards can have any type of embellishments - little girls love pink & purple with glitter, etc. - little boys love bright strong bold colors, dinosaurs, cars, trucks, animals and so forth. Disney is always a bit hit with all the younger children. Teens and young adults enjoy funny, cheerful and uplifting cards. Some of our children are blind due to chemo/radiation and love cards with lots of texture for them to feel. If possible please include envelopes.
SPECIAL RESTRICTIONS: No "Get Well" greeting, not because we do not wish them to get well, however, many of these fighting warriors are terminal so we try to be as sensitive as possible.

For a little added inspiration you can join us in playing along with the OPTIONAL challenge each month. This is only optional and you do not have to play along to send your cards to the featured cause for the month. We always take cards no matter if you play along in the challenge or not. I'll be starting some cards this weekend. I don't do many children's cards so this will be a challenge for me. I'll try my best though.
Can anyone tell me what size card is made the most? Especially for this forum. Do most make the note card A2 size or the bigger A7? I tend to make the bigger ones but sometimes I forget to take the postage into consideration. Any comments would be greatly appreciated!
I think many are done A2 so you don't have to worry about postage. I do A2 cards. Most of the cards that came in for February Cards for a Cause were A2.

Sue, thanks so much for your reply. I am going to work on making A2 cards. I'm not sure why they are so challenging for me. Maybe because some of my favorite die's and other embellishments are on the large side and fit better on an A7. I guess it's time to adjust and keep that postage in mind! Thanks again!

Donna, I think A2 is the most common. I know that is what I make the most of, thank you for your willingness to help!

Teresa, thank you for your response! I am working on the A2's but I have to say they just don't look right. I guess it's just a mind over matter thing! I am determined and will have cards to send to Cole's Foundation!!

Donna, as a member of Cole's Foundation, please know we will be extremely pleased and thankful for any cards you send so do not fret about the size. Again your willingness to make cards for our kids, teens and young adults will be a big blessing!
I have had so much fun researching punch art to make some kids cards, I do not have kids stamps, so I'm doing some punch art and how fun is that, did not know that some of the punches I have could be used to make so many things....internet is great

I just boxed up 131 cards that will fly out of here tomorrow (well actually they'll get taken to the post office by my willing husband). This has been fun and I'm so happy to finally be able to use up some of my cute glittery cardstock! Thank you for making this possible!

Mailed 18 cards yesterday. Had fun with this one, loved making cards for children once I got started. Had more stamps for kids than I thought and borrowed a couple of sets from my daughter.
Wow, am near to tears with five packages that came today from Sharon Huffman, Sue Brandon, Maggie Minnich, Sharon Hendrian and Vicki Strong. All the cards are beyond wonderful and are so appreciated!
Thank you does not seem to be sufficient... so hope it is okay to share a story about a little boy so you will know how your cards will touch hearts. I had sent a simple card of a sailboat to a young guy who was battling a life-threatening disease. Several months went by when I received an email from his mom who told me that her son keeps the card on his nightstand, picks it up daily and tells her how much he loves it. Needless to say, I cried.
Again God bless all of you for your creative talents and generosity.
