Default Brown Coats Unite

Hi!

We are a fun group who love Sci-fi and FANtasy fans who are crafty and blog. We want to belong to a steady group of Bloggers that inspire, encourage and acknowledge each other as creative minds and aren't ashamed to be labeled Sci-fi fans. This thread will be a place where we can ask questions, help each other grow our blogs and follow along on our creative art journeys. This group is open to any "Sci-fi loving creative blogger".

P.S. You don't need to write about your Sci Fi Fan-dom unless you want to. Although, I may try to see later if anyone is interested in doing a Blog Hop later to showcase your particular Fan-dom.

Thoughts:

1. Each Blogger will have an active blog. (Meaning you try and post at least once a week, if you don't no worries but it would be more exciting if it was a little more regularly than once every 2 months.)

2. Each Blogger needs to visit his/her fellow Bloggers leaving an encouraging word or two if they have a NEW post. (You could become followers, sign up via email or just follow the Bloggers List, which you can find below in this comment)

3. Each Blogger will notify members of prolonged absence as we are forming friendships and if you disappear, we would appreciate notification.

4. Check in here occasionally and leave a message so we know you are still an active member.

5. Bloggers are asked to share their ideas regarding the group which could potentially include challenges, RAKs, swaps or the like.

6. Bloggers are REQUIRED to post the blog group and members list on their blog.

7. There will be cap the number at 10 - 12 Bloggers in the group, so as not to overwhelm people. Please be an ACTIVE participants.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to being inspired, giving inspiration, being encouraged and giving encouragement.

THE BLOGGERS:
1. Mary - Cr8ive ME

I thought it would be fun to share which Fandom you belong to.

I'm a total Joss Whedon fan. I love Firefly, Buffy and Angel.

I am also a fan of Doctor Who, Star Trek (Next Gen, Voyager, Original, and Enterprise),
and The Big Bang Theory (which just puts all the Fan-doms together).

Loved The Lord of the Rings. Can't wait for The Hobbit.

And one of my favorite series is The Planet of the Apes.

Love Twilight saga too. I even dressed up as Rosalie for the Thursday night showing. It was for a party that had been planned since January, there were door prizes, raffles, a wolf howl contest, and a costume contest.

Hope to get to know y'all better.

Hugs,

Hi! I'm also a Joss Whedon fan, and I just got my complete Buffy set in the mail last week! I'm already on season two. I like Doctor Who, grew up on Star Trek, and just finished reading Neil Gaimon's American Gods.

My blog is himynameistheresa | Paper, paper, crafts, and more paper. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hey Theresa!

Glad you found the thread. I haven't read Gaimon's American Gods. I may have to add it to my reading list.

I added you to the list.

Thanks so much for setting this up Mary: I am a big fan of Twilight, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter. I don't get to watch much TV these days but maybe through here, I'll get some inspiration for what shows would be good to watch! That is so cool you dressed up as Rosalie! I just saw Break Dawn 2 this weekend and loved it!

Please add me to the list:

I don't blog about scifi though...
That's OK Gale. I don't really expect anyone to blog about their Sci Fi preferences unless they want to.

Although, I was thinking it might be fun to do a little blog hop maybe when we get a bit bigger. Focusing on a fun Fandom like maybe Doctor Who (maybe like The Weeping Angels, or Picasso, or maybe the Tardis), the writings of Isaac Asimov (maybe a robot blog hop, i.e. "I, Robot") or Twilight.

Just a fun thought I had.

Ladies, sorry I've been out of the loop for the last few days! Work has been super hectic. I'm so glad today's a holiday. We're pretty low-key about Thanksgiving in my family, and we're going to a potluck tonight, so all I need to do is make one dishes!

That means lots of extra time for making cards and layouts (and watching Buffy, of course!).

@Mary: Any really good Black Friday scrapbooking sales? All my shopping will be online this year.

That's OK Gale. I totally understand the holiday season is crazy and hectic.

No worries. Just have a great holiday and blog when you can.

I'm sorry you are in pain.

I've had more than my share of accidents which result in back pain when the weather changes too dramatically around here.

Also in August I had surgery which my doctor said was only supposed to take 2 weeks to recover from and I had to have bed rest the entire time. Also it lasted a little longer then she said. In fact I'm still can't roll over onto my stomach without hurting myself and there's still a red sore spot at least that's what DH says I can't see it because it is under my belly.

I went in for a laparoscopic surgery and my doctor wound up also having to do a laparotomy too. So my body had 2 surgeries that I'm recovering from. I spoke with a nurse who had a laparotomy procedure done and she said it takes about 6-8 months to recover. Suffice it to say my doctor didn't tell me that and now all her office wants to know is when I will schedule my IVF treatment.

I'm sorry to go off on a tangent. I hope you feel better soon.

Hugs,

My daughter is teething again, and it's challenging. Two teeth came in last July, and then nothing until this week. Now her third tooth is poking through and Miss Cranky Pants is understandably cranky. Hopefully she'll be more comfortable soon, and we'll be able to get some more sleep.

Mary, on your most recent post (MFT sketch challenge), the image is showing up as broken to me. :( The problem may be just on my end (slow connection), but I wanted to give you a heads up, just in case.

Hi Theresa!

I checked on my home desktop and my DH checked on his office computer and the image shows up. I'm not sure, why you can't see it.

Can you believe it's gonna be December tomorrow!?!

Are you ready?

I got out the tree the day after Thanksgiving but still need to decorate it. Although it does look nice as is. Last year at the end of the season I got a Martha Stewart tree from Home Depot. It's pre-lit and since it's a Martha it's already a little decorative.

I did get DH to put the angel at the top of it for me. I'm still to short to reach the top of the tree even with our ladder. Which is a 2-step ladder.

Our angel is a Precious Moments one. Most of our ornaments are too because I started collecting before I was out of high school. The rest are a hodge podge of DH's from childhood and his Star Wars ornaments. It's tradition that I either get him a Star Wars ornament or LEGO set. This year I got him a TIE Interceptor with sound effects. He <3s it. And the rest of our ornaments we've collected from vacations we've taken and some cool Texas ornaments too.

Let's just say our tree is VERY unique looking. Maybe that's why I haven't finished decorating?

Then of course I have to dust our bookshelf to put up our Nativity scenes. Yup, I said scenes. My MIL gave each of her 6 children a Nativity set that she bought when she was selling AVON. It's nice and elegant but of course after hearing what our ornaments are you can tell it just doesn't quite fit. Then of course I had to have a Precious Moments set. Mine aren't nearly as big as hers. Her's are white and come with the whole scene, the wise men, shepherds, animals, and of course baby Jesus and the manger with Mary and Joseph.

My full size set (which is like a kid's set) is just the manger with baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph. And then I have a candle topper that is the same minus the manger. I also have an ornament with that too. I couldn't help it. DH wouldn't let me get an actual full adult version set since his mom had given all his family that set. It's kinda like a family heirloom that everyone has.

Then I also have to find a home for his family's Christmas mouse. You see the Christmas mouse is his family's version of the elf on the shelf minus the mess. The Christmas mouse stays in front all month long and disappears for a short time on Christmas day. When he comes back he brings the family presents, i.e. the board games and movies the family can enjoy together. The regular individual presents go under the tree. Or at least maybe they will someday. Since we have no kids the only real presents to go under the tree are for the dogs because ours don't really get wrapped. Oh, I will also put our families presents under the tree just sort of to give me a place to concentrate them but they get removed when we go to visit our families.

Oh also his family's Christmas mouse probably is a little older tradition. You see his mom wanted to find a way to keep all her kids entertained and able to spend more time on Christmas as a family. So that's how the Christmas mouse got started.

Oh and the thing about the Christmas mouse is that each of his siblings families had to find their own.

Personally, when we got married. For our first Christmas DH was so excited to start this tradition that we went to EBAY to find ours. Well it took a little work and DH liked so many of them that we actually have 3 versions. Well, technically 4 because during our search I found an ornament that was a mouse and Precious Moments. Score!

Thank goodness we finally found the one that DH remembered from his childhood and that's why we don't have more than 3 Christmas mice.

We borrowed DH's family set of all the books. And my Boston ate The Hobbit.

Still haven't gotten around to find a new copy of it. Don't have the heart to tell his folks either. And I'm sure they had that set for a while as DH's baby #6 and is 32 yrs old now.

Just dropping in to say, "Sorry." I dropped off the face of the planet a few months ago when my husband lost his mother. Things have been really hectic, but I'm back! Off to check everyone's blogs now ...

Hi Theresa!

Glad to see you back.

Sorry to hear of your MIL. Hope your DH is doing better.

I understand. I had to take a year off from crafting and blogging due to life around here getting a bit crazy.

My husband's grandpa died, my mom was diagnosed with cervical cancer (Thank GOD she's in remission), my aunt died from cervical cancer, and I was working with a fertility doctor.

Thank GOD for the world of paper crafting. It's my own personal escape and gives me a great pick me up.

Hugs,
Mary

Hi ladies.
I'd love to join the group if you'll have me.
I am a total Firefly/Doctor Who/Primeval nut. In fact, Firefly and Primeval are permanently in my Netflix queue, which is perfect for when I need a Netflix papercrafting marathon. I also love Torchwood (sensing a theme?), Haven, Sanctuary, Star Trek TNG, Game of Thrones, Warehouse 13, and am looking forward to Defiance. At the moment, I'm loving Ilona Andrews: Kate Daniels series, Nalini Singh: Psy-Changeling series, Patricia Briggs: Mercy Thompson series, and Ann Aguirre: Sirantha Jax series.

Matt Smith is the 11th Doctor but he's been doing it for a couple of seasons now.

David Tennant is the 10th Doctor and he will be back for the 50th anniversary.

I don't know if Christopher Eccleston, the 9th Doctor, will be back for the 50th. I heard he's not really a fan of Doctor Who.

And I would assume that the remaining living Doctor's would be in an episode too.

Spread some blog-y love this week. Hoping the list on the first post is current. If not, I'll be going through the thread to make sure I capture everyone...
