I have a Cuttlebug which I love (and it's old) but if I want just the edge of my card (in landscape) embossed I cannot do it because I'm limited by the width of the opening.
Are there an die cut machines (not like the Accucut ) with openings greater than 6 inches? Or am I just wishing for something that doesn't exist?
Sizzix makes a "pro" version of the big shot which is 12" wide. I found a pretty good deal on it at It's Cheaper Than Therapy. There was even a purple version (aimed at quilters called the westminster, I believe). The purple version came with an extended tray and accessories.

Thanks for the suggestion! I found the pro version on Amazon for $234. 09 I think I'm going to go for it. I've been wanting a new cutter (even though I also own the Cameo) for my steel rule dies and bigger embossing envelopes...This will be my Christmas gift from my family...but they don't know it yet!
Well I might have spoken to soon just had a look at the Grand Calibur...I don't really think I'll ever buy the thick dies, so it might just be a more affordable option! The only drawback is the machine moves...like the Cuttlebug-no likey:(

I went through this same decision a couple years ago and ended up getting the big shot pro. I really wanted one machine that could cut every type of die rather than having to have multiples. I don't have a lot of pro sized dies, but I do have a couple I love - things like the tri-fold card and large spider web I used to make decorations. However, even if I did not have the pro dies, I would still love the large platform of the big shot pro - you can easily put mulitple dies on it and run them through all at once. One word of caution though... it is BIG and HEAVY! so it will need a permanent home - you don't want to be moving that thing around. If mobility is a must, then the grand calibur is a better choice.
Oh, my, why does everyone bring up the e-bosser, lol?! ;) ;) JK -- I am finally all "settled" with a Silhouette Portrait (for family projects, doing multiples easily, text, and cutting scanned images) and the Artisan X-plorer for one-at-a-time quick diecuts and messing around with other materials... and it takes up very little space which is important for me. But every time someone brings up this e-bosser, I am intrigued! It looks like a great machine and if I ever want a big one again, this is where I'll be looking .
Oh wow! That does seem like a cool machine...now that I think about it, I think I did hear something about it when it came out, but never checked into it. Anyone here have one? I think I'll go check out youtube for reviews.
I did find it on Amazon for $199 and it had 6 reviews-all pretty positive.
I hadn't heard about it until I decided to keep the two things that I have and be satisfied with that. I've had other machines which I sold (pretty much got what I paid for them so I'm fine with that), but may have made some different decisions along the way had I seen the e-bosser first. I only just heard of it within the last few weeks.
Hope it or something else turns out to be the perfect solution for you!
Okay, I saw the Artisan...but it defeats my purpose of finding something that has a wider opening. I do really like the Ebosser but not really sure I want to spend that much. I rethought the Big Shot Pro too...thinking maybe the Grand Calibur is more in my budget.
I got the Artisan specifically for its smaller size, Kathy. I should have mentioned more about it. I downsized my space for stamping, etc., and it was my number one consideration in getting that machine. It's simple, tiny, and does the job - but definitely not all of the jobs!
Grand Calibur was at Overstock.com last week for $65 and I think that included shipping.

I totally get downsizing when it's necessary. I used to have super small 10x10 room and could not have had half of what I have now! But there are days when I would trade that room for this one because it had walls! I have a whole wall and a half of windows! (used to be the patio and atrium). Well I surely missed the boat on that awesome price because Overstock doesn't even show it, just dies and things for it. :(
Oh well, my Cuttlebug still works and I'll just have to wait for another awesome sale!
thanks for the info
I have an Ebosser and I love it. I got it because i had a torn rotator cuff and it was so hard to crank dies. The Ebosser sure took the pain out of due cutting!
Blessings.

Good to know! If I get anything more expensive than the Grand Calibur it will have to be for Christmas...I do like the ease of use the Ebosser offers. Now just when I had my mind mostly made up, a wrench is thrown! hahaha
