Did you get the keys at Michael's then and were they in a bag or something - the only ones I found that one year were in scrapbooking and they were flat on one side for adhering to a project.

they were in clear bags with odd colored satin ribbons on them in those bins where some things are one dollar and up? ( I did not find them in the M's in the town I live in but, one 80 miles away) I never looked again to see if they had them again...

I have some of those odd flat half a key kinds too but, I think they would work better glued to something, problem is the ones I got are from K&Co. and the stupid paper it was glued to is next to impossible to remove from the keys so, I have never used those...
