As I browsed through the previous galleries, I discovered Squigglefly digital images and hopped on over there. They have a freebie page, to "try before you buy." A few of the free images are support ribbons and related. Didn't want anyone to miss out!

Hi Joyce .
Doesn't sound to me as if you're missing much. If I remember correctly from last year, Lydia asked the hostesses not to use any way-out supplies, so that it would be easy for people to play along. With only one challenge a day (3 on the first day), you don't even so much need prepared bases, though they're always handy!
Hope you got some PINK Core-dinations .
The real must-haves are the envelopes and clear envelopes/bags, which you've already got covered so I'd say you're good to go.

Great. I'm trying to be efficient as ill be on a cruise 10 days out of the month so will need to play catch up when I get home.
The core card bases that the Joann's I was at were only white and Kraft.

I will definitely put out a shopping list, but you certainly won't need it for every challenge. Most challenges don't require pink

Always so much fun! Looking forward to both the challenges and the chat...oh and of course, prizes at the end are always fun too!
From what I remember from HYCCT last year, the challenges are a broad mix and not just focused on pink and bling and all things girly, but there are always a few that are.

I've been checking out the home page for a few weeks for the first signs of HYCCT.
This year I'll be prepping some card bases, die cuts and some embellishments for some quick cards when I'm short on time. I also found some card blanks and envies that'll be very useful too.

Hi Theresa. I never do understand how people can do prepping ahead of time, before knowing what the challenges are. Can you give me some tips about what you do? I know I can cut a bunch of card bases in pink and neutral colors, but how do you know what die cuts, etc. will work? Last year I set out a bunch of stuff to use, but most of it didn't fit with the challenges and I had to make my choices as each new challenge was posted. I'd love to know how to get a head start.
eta: P.S. So glad I found the chat thread, although I might not spend quite as much time here this year as I did last year. I just about wrote off the whole month of October 2012 for any other activity.

Me too, Val! I'm not much of one for having pre-coloured images because if I'm using DP I pick my colours from that. And for me, it's usually quicker to start from scratch than try to find anything I already have in the way of die-cuts .

Sabrina, even if I do have pre-colored images (I usually have some), they don't go with the challenge themes. And the die cuts will usually depend on the size of the image.
I'd be interested in hearing how other people prep ahead of time.

I don't color much to begin with so here is what I do.
- I make sure my space is clean and organized (this is huge for me).
- I pull out my sketch notebook, look through old magazines and bookmark cards I think will be easy to pull together. Ditto with my pinterest board.
- I pick out a couple of pads of paper to work from, coordinating embellishments and some other things that might work as focal points (like those embellishment packages I've been hoarding). I try to work from these limited supplies when possible because it just makes card making that much faster for me.
- I pull out tried and true sentiments, maybe a new stamp set or two that I've been itching to ink up.
- I also make sure I have plenty of plain cardstock and adhesive on hand! Nothing is worse than trying to fit a trip in to Michaels when I could be making something.
Other than that, I just load my ATG gun and holster it, waiting (im)patiently.

Ditto Superjen. I always have a stash of card bases cut and scored, and I have to stock up on pink, since that's not a color I use much. I have a tray of pink dp scraps and a file of dp that I'm anticipating would be needed for breast cancer focus. Same with the stamps-- I pull the ones that might be needed and scan the files for anything else that might apply, just to refresh my memory of the inventory. It definitely helps to be organized and start with a clear work space. I don't pre-color images, usually.

Gotta start cutting bases! I read that tip on here during DTGD... brilliant and I don't know why I never thought of that!
Can't wait!! My daughter's kindergarten teacher was diagnosed with breast cancer this year and has had to go through chemo, a mastectomy and radiation... Hits a little closer to home this year....

Last year was my first time playing in HYCCT and I found I did not have support stamps in the traditional kinds of themes for Breast Cancer so, I did some shopping then and some of it came in during the month but, I think this year is the year those things will get a work out. ( picked up a bra die from mft. and some stamp sets from mft and ( I forgot what else) see this is what I do to get ready, I go on a treasure hunt in my space. ) I know I have some things that should work sooner or later during the month and I am planning on putting those stamp sets into a basket near the table so its all together.
(right now my space is sorted by themes and colors (kinda) but, unmounted stamps are in a dresser ( and messy )
So, I will also make sure everything is fairly tidy and I will check through the pre-stamped / die cut images I have in a basket and make some more from the skinny scraps piled up from DTGD and VSN. ( there is a lot of that ) but, I tend to like how sentiments look tied on like presents on the ribbons.
I also know one of my friends sent me some little pink bling stick pins last year and I think I used one and have one left so will just find it kind of a thing.
I own all colors of cardstock so, that's not an issue for me but, I will check out the local M's and J's to see if they have anything blingy that would work on a card that I like.
I might color some images but, they will be just because, I want to and if they will work YAY me, and if not, there will be a lot of CAS and maybe line drawings with no color things coming out of my room. ( the good news is there is not a short time limit like VSN its you know you have 24 hours for that card before the next one or two come out) and you have a week to get the ones you had to skip during the month done too. so, the other thing I do is I print that spread sheet and I write on it every time. ( anything is done ) so I can see what is missing at a glance.
ETA so, mostly during the week I don't make much, I jot down the challenge and think about what I have that I can make it work and then I just do that weeks list over the weekend like it was a VSN because, I can do things quickly if they have percolated in my head for a bit.

Very helpful information/tips, Stacy. I agree about the spreadsheet being so very important during the month. Thanks so much to those who set that up.
I see that getting the work area cleaned up and having basic tools handy is about the most important preparation for everyone.
I like the way you do a week's worth of cards at once. I may have to do something like that this year. I usually try to do each one as it comes along, but if some are out of my comfort zone or I can't think of a way to interpret the challenge, I'll skip it and come back later.
I have a small group of stamps that look fine without color, and I'll have those handy. My biggest problem is often the sentiment, since most of mine are Scripture or Christian based which MDA doesn't allow, being a state organization.
Thanks everyone for the prep tips.

I have a similar problem with sentiments, Val.
I've been looking for a long time for a set with good big sentiments. I LOVE about 3 or 4 stamps in SU's Word Play, but some of the others I would never use so as often as I look at on eBay, I'd have to get it at a really good price to feel it was worth it.
BUT, looking through the sponsors after DTGD I spotted a lovely set over at Verve, and although it was out of stock at the time I was lucky and it came back in before their sale was over .
Verve Stamps: Words of Wisdom is what I've ordered, and I can see several of those working well for HYCCT.
I know exactly what Stacy means about things coming together faster if they've been simmering in my mind for a while. I definitely need that extra time for challenges that don't immediately speak to me. And colour challenges, LOL.
I love the spreadsheet too. I tend to use it online rather than print it, though, because then I can type what I used into another column and if I'm uploading several cards at once, all the stuff I used is there ready for me to paste into the write-up. I highlight the challenges I've done, so it's still easy to see which ones need doing.
