Jane, we went out to the Desert Museum for probably the last time. It was the first weekend of the raptor free flight and at the end they flew the red tailed hawk. She didn't take off so they finished the "event" and those of us who wanted to waited for her to take off and fly. She found the thermals and got to about 1500 feet. A wild redtailed hawk flew close and we watched for about 20 minutes as she soared, flew off the other bird, soared again, made sure the other bird flew off then dropped down and landed in front of us. I love the way the birds can just fly off if they want to. She certainly wasn't ready to come down when they first tried!
