I don't have one, but I think the magnet is stronger than the vent covers. My demo sold one to a customer and I guess the delivery person just tossed it on the porch because when she found it, it was stuck to the screen door through the packaging!
I have one and I love it. The magnet is super strong. I like that I can line up the die on top of my paper to see where I am cutting. I never used the vent covers, but my demo did and it seemed like a lot more work to me, I think the platform is easier and it beats the Genius platform in my opinion.
I confess that I'm a demo and love mine. But I can honestly tell you that every single one of my customers who's had a chance to try it can't wait to buy it! I also have a few who haven't tried it but want me to let them know as soon as it can be ordered again.
I'm not so patiently waiting on mine to arrive! Apparently they're on back order due to big demand. Any word on when we'll be getting them? I ordered shortly after the new catalog came out. I had heard that early orders would be here by September.

I love mine and my customers can't wait until they can order one, too. The magnet is so strong that there is a warning one the platform for people who have pacemakers! Worth waiting for!

I already have mine and absolutely love it. Mine was on B/O when it first came out. I didn't hesitate a day to jump on it. I finally received it a few weeks later. It'd heard that they were on B/O again. However, my SU consultant called me to see if I'd ever received mine and that they were shipping them out again. You should be receiving it soon, I'm sure.
I am planning to get mine soon too (was waiting on the back log to be filled lol), but customers need to be aware of the fine print. If you have a pacemaker or some metal heart implant this tool should not be used. Please check out with your demonstrators.
On August 23rd, Stampin' Up! announced this on the Demo site, "We have received a shipment of Magnetic Platforms (item 13065, and we are currently filling backorders. However, we do not yet have sufficient inventory to fill new orders. We will let you know when all backorders have been filled and we are able to turn this item back on for ordering."
I am happily admit that I am a Demo and I made the unfortunate decision to wait a little bit so I could read users comments of the thing before I bought it and I waited a touch too long! :( But I should have known better than wait because I haven't known anything that SU has that failed. But I have been a user of SU for a year or so and a Demo even less.
I had just bought the Pop-N-Cuts base when Sizzix had to recall (?) them for not putting in the crease marks. Fortunately, mine worked fine and I got it along with the Label and the dress form inserts. So I couldn't put out the money for the magnetic base before they ran out!
As soon as they become available again, I'll try to post here, but you guys are so sharp you'll probably know before me!!
Today's update from SU is about the new Envelope Punch Board (66 different envelope sizes, you only measure one side and just start turning the paper, comes with a bone folder - which stores in the board, it cuts out the indents and it rounds the corners! Only $19.95 Love it!) being available for customers.
No need to rush, next year it is going into the catalog, so the envelope board is here to stay! I was very happy to toss Martha Stewart's maddening score board to the curb!
Yesterday's update was about Shelli Gardner, who is the Co-Founder and CEO of Stampin' Up!. "Yesterday Shelli was involved in a riding accident in southern Utah; the horse she was riding stumbled. Shelli was taken to the Kanab hospital where X-rays were taken and she was diagnosed with a fractured pelvis, broken wrist, and broken collarbone. She is being flown to Intermountain Medical Center and will likely be there for a few days." :(
AND the day before that was about September's deal of saving 15% when you buy the bundled Papillion Potpourri Stamp Set and Bitty Butterfly Punch.
That is all of the updates we have received since the last update about the magnetic platform.
I just tried to add the magnetic platform to my demo order and got the message that the item is no longer available and discontinued? Anybody here know anything about it?

I read on someones blog that SU has suspended taking anymore orders until they are caught up on their backorders. I think it was suspended end of July and anticipate it being available again this fall. I ordered mine on July 2 and it just shipped on 8/28.
Also, see post #10

The word that worries me is discontinued. I have been holding off submitting my first demo order to the the 30% discount. If it is really discontinued through Stampin' UP!, then there is no reason for me to hold off ordering. It's supposed to be in Michaels Stores in September and I'll get one then.
I don't think that it will be discontinued. I checked the Sizzix website and they aren't being shipped to local hobby and craft stores until this month sometime. SU's platform is in such high demand, from what my consultant has told me, that they are only filling all back orders right now and will not be taking any "new" orders until all the back orders are filled. It's a hot item and a must have. So glad I got mine early!
So, is SU mailing the back order magnetic platforms directly to us or does it go to our demonstrator? I'm still waiting on mine. Ordered it first week in July.

I ordered mine online July 2 and received it on Sept. 4. It will be shipped to the original address on the order. If that was your demo then I would check with her.
Just looking on google where to buy a magnetic platform and they say the genius platform fits all machines including the CB, not sure how it compares to the sizzix one, it just that amazon sell them so I could get it sent out to Spain.
Wanda, backordered items ship the same way as the original order, so your shipping depends on that.
Thanks, Linda! Good news! Had stamp club meeting yesterday and my magnetic platform arrived at my demo's house the day before! Tried it out today and LOVE it!

Stampin Up has the new Magnetic Platforms available for customers!!!
Per my site and Stampin UP's Demo website:
MAGNETIC PLATFORM AVAILABLE TO ORDER
September 9, 2013
A full shipment of Magnetic Platforms (item 13065 has arrived! We are happy to announce that the great wait is over and we can start filling new orders on September 12.
WOOHOO!

I had a Genius Platform and returned it. It wasn't all that, IMO. I've read many reviews on various websites and lots of people were/are unimpressed with it. Lots of returns on that item.
The Sizzix Magnetic Platform (the SU-branded one and the "regular" Sizzix one) is awesome. Not only is the magnet super strong, you can use it with your die facing down so you can stamp an image, lay your die over it, and cut it out perfectly. I wish I had more hands so I could give the Sizzix platform more than just two thumbs up!

Jan, I've tried both. The magnetic strength of the Genius platform was disappointing to me. The Sizzix platform has very strong magnetic pull. If you can wait a bit until you can get one that is deliverable to Spain at a reasonable cost, I suspect you would find it worth it. The only thing you should know is that you might want to get a new set of cutting plates. The magnetic platform works better when the Sizzix plates are not warped the way they become due to normal use. I have a set for each platform now.
Oh, and be careful with electronic devices. The magnetic pull is really that strong. I keep my laptop well away from it when I am set up in the craft room. If you travel by plane with one, I would expect they will search your stuff. Maybe print out an ad from the website and have it next to the platform? Based on what I know about magnets, I am fairly sure it would set off all security devices at an airport...
Oh I did think of that, but thanks for mentioning it, as we only have hand luggage on our next visit I will have to wait until next year when we drive over. My DH was stopped in the airport once in sFO as I had packed a edging punch in his hand luggage, he said he had packed it himself and then when it showed on the scanner he had to admit that he never packs his own case. He did see the funny side luckily.
The genisis platform is from amazon for $54 but when I tried to check postage they said it couldn't be mailed to Spain and the sizzix platform says 31 from sizzix but I didn't check the postage, with the weight most places won't ship out here although one company sent my cricut out here for 30 which is amazing as it was delivered by courier to the door
I think Sizzix.uk is supposed to ship to all EU nations. Their US shipping rates were never exorbitant when you consider how heavy the dies are. My problem now that I live in Canada is that Sizzix/Ellison simply does not ship to Canada, period. The only issue I could see coming up is that they may not be selling them directly yet. They always wait for a month or two so that retailers can sell first, then they will sell you a new product directly. I understand why they do it, but it's annoying when you simply can't get it from anyone else.
The thing is that when you add postage on it makes the product so much more expensive, which I begrudge as I don't have unlimited money for crafting, there are three companies that ship here free if you spend over a certain amount so I save and order every few months, although they won't send card or heavy items. I do spend a fortune when we visit our son in San Francisco as the prices are so cheap over there.
