Challenge Title: Pocket Full of Hope
Hostess: TexasGrammy .. a.k.a. Bev
Keyword: HYCCT1316
Date: Saturday, October 16th, 2013
Act 1: The first inspiration for my topic "Pocketful of Hope", came from the lyrics of an oldie goldie song with a somewhat uplifting message of its own:
Catch a falling star an' put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star an' put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day ... ...
Act 2: Reality. Life is very short. Just in the time since I first named my challenge, I have attended the funeral of a dear friend's beautiful & bright 21-year old daughter, who battled fiercely with leukemia. Ashley's battle lasted only 10 days in a Dallas-area hospital. Then suddenly, her journey here with us had ended. At Ashley's funeral, Sept. 28, we each pinned an orange ribbon to our blouse or jacket. And that has brought about a wee change to my challenge.
Pocket Full of Hope challenge:
Create a pocket card, or a card with a pocket on it.
Bonus 1: To fill the pocket with hope, add a star or stars OR a heart or hearts.
Bonus 2: Make it orange (leukemia) or pink (breast cancer and our traditional color for HYCCT).

Ten days! That's tragic - no time for family and friends to even start coming to terms with the diagnosis never mind the outcome.
It's pouring rain here, not ideal for a good photo but perfect for spending a day stamping. I'd being planning to use flowers on my tag but switched up to a star and a star sentiment.
Oh Bev, big hugs! That is just heartbreaking. We'll fill the gallery up with love and hold some space for you all.

such a tender posting. my sympathies for all, my daughter's best friend died at age fourteen with leukemia and no warning at all. She went into hospital on Sunday and was gone on Monday morning. It left imprints on all of us and helps me understand what the families and friends are going through. Prayers for peace in the situation.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend Bev. We lost our grandfather to leukemia a week after his diagnosis. This is a sweet tribute to her even if it didn't start out that way. Prayers of support & comfort for you and her family during this difficult time...
Bev, your story makes this cancer struggle even more real for all of us. Thanks for sharing and I am so sorry for your friend and for all of you who knew this wonderful young lady. As I said in another comment this week for all who participate in our month of challenges- Pat yourself on the back for creating cards to support and comfort these patients and their families. It is the least we can do for them.

I'm so glad to see y'all sharing your stampy goodness with us today!
I have 2 sisters-in-law & 1 (adult) nephew arriving here on Saturday, so everywhere-cleaning is my unending task until airport pick-ups begin. ;) I'm just thankful to have creative goodies to come & peek at for temporary pauses in the "action" (ick) happening here!
Bev- I am so sorry to hear of your friend's loss- they are in my thoughts.
As for my card, I started with a fall card, but this silly pig just needed to be there- it's from SU's Button Buddies set. My sentiment is from SU's Cute and Curly. Here's Happy Pig Thanks

What a fun challenge Bev! Thanks so much for the inspiration, and so very sad to hear of your tragic news. Here is my card for the challenge...only got Bonus 1 squeezed in, lol!
I decided to do a Criss Cross card for my challenge and it has been so long since I've made one, I had to go check out Beate's tutorial for a refresher (wonderful tutorials from that talented girl!). Here's my
Thanks Bev for the fun challenge and inspiring story. A reminder of why we create and mail out these cards. I was out most of yesterday so I had to work on this when I got home last night. I finished photographing this morning and I am sharing both the pocket card and a separate photo for the mini card.
