Default Vagabond "POP"

Today my second Vagabond uttered the dreaded POP. I called Sizzix. The woman I spoke to was very nice, but no resolution other than shipping my machine back to them with $125 to have them look at it. Well that's not going to happen for 2 reasons. One - $125 isn't worth it and 2) the solo platform and cutting pads are stuck in the machine so it won't close.

The nice lady I spoke to suggested I overstuffed the machine. But, in reviewing the sandwich, I have it understuffed. I removed the solo shim so I would get a deeper cut ....... Not sure what to do now, especially after reading all of the entries with the same issue.

Any clue how to remove my cutting pads and solo platform?

Unless you can pull on the platform while reversing the motor, I think you may have to "eat" the cost of your machine. I just saw this video yesterday. It might help you in the future, if this was your problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBZcwrTNrYc

I'm sorry that you had this happen. Nobody likes having to waste money unnecessarily. The only other recourse is to see if a local small appliance repair business can help you remove your platform. Hope this helps.

I had the same thing happen to me. My husband and I struggled for a week to get the embossing folder out. He ended up breaking the machine apart to get it out. I now have a new Lifestyle Crafts Evolution. But I did get a beautifully embossed piece of card stock out of the deal.

I totally agree! Mine broke too and I replaced it with a Big Shot - far too much money for such a "delicate" machine. I followed all the guidelines and bought all the correct sandwich fixin's and it still popped. I didn't give it a second chance....

I gave it a second chance, was even more "****" about sandwiches. Have all the plates, but I did buy a Big Kick for $30 (super good deal at Tuesday Morning). I'll give the big kick a go and see how I feel in a few months.

I had the same thing happen to my Vagabond 2 nights ago. It was out of warranty. I purchase it 4/12. I was embossing a card. I used a correct sandwich height (I have the "keys" to ensure I had the right height). I fed it into the Vagabond. The machine spit out my sandwich when it was only fed in for 1/4 inch. The top roller would not move and it made an rattling sound internally. I am hoping to get part of my money back from Discover using their extended warranty program. I am so disappointed. Won't be replacing the Vagabond. I bought another Big Shot instead.

I think you should all email Tim Holtz and Sizzix to complain. Sounds like a defect in the machine.

I just completed Creative Chemistry 102 with Tim and, for those of us who told Tim that we had any type of product issues, Tim directed us to contact Ranger so my suggestion would be to contact Ranger rather than Tim unless your objective is to make Tim aware of your issues in addition to contacting Ranger.

AS LONG AS you're abiding by the thickness of the sandwich rules then I think it's fair to contact Ranger even if you're out of the warranty period. I know that for what this machine costs, I expect it to last me a longggg time IF I use it properly.

I faithfully use my keys to measure my sandwiches and I have had my Vagabond since they first came out and I have never had any issues and I love it.

Of course, now I've probably doomed myself by the 'never had any issues' statement LOL.....I sure hope not............

Good luck!!!!

My disclaimor: I posted that VERY early this morning ;) Thanks for the correction, holtzfan.

Sorry for the confusion to the posters. What I MEANT to say was that the folks with Vagabond issues should bypass Tim and just contact SIZZIX (again, unless they specifically want Tim to know about the issue).

There is so much that I love about tim holtz and his products, but I especially appreciate the quality of all of his product lines and the great customer support that his suppliers/manufacturers provide.
