I'm very fortunate to have a craft space all to myself but if money were no object, I would do a craft room makeover! I would like a counter top with with nice cupboards above it and then drawers that slide out beneath the counter! I would also like to have a a separate cutting area for my paper trimmer & die cut machines.
I should give a little more information: I am redoing my craft room downstairs. I have money, within reason, to spend, but I want to know what you all would do if you had the ability to redo your craft room! What do you long for? If there was one thing you could put in your space, what would it be? I have a 20x14 room that I am moving into...building it from the studs up. I already have plenty of cabinets and TONS of counter space. Not much wall space though. What would you do with it if you could????

If money were no object, I'd have a craft room with 4 walls and no through traffic instead of being open to the living areas and a major thoroughfare right through it.

Lots of energy efficient lighting overhead and under cabinet, long uninterrupted counter space on at least three sides with drawers underneath, and a big table in the middle of the room for friends to sit at to stamp.
As soon as I read the OP I scurried off to the room I am clearing out so I can move my craft stuff in and envisaged a wall length bench top. Then I came back to my computer and realised I'd have to give up my eclectic mix of useful furniture that I really like if I want the bench.
What I would love is hard floors, a couple of power points and a good lick of paint.
I used to have a shop where I did upholstery and it had floor-to ceiling shelves on three walls, and the other wall was glass. I had a 4' x 8' sheet of melamine-covered plywood perched across a couple of dressers as an island in one half of the room - counter height. It was the BEST space for EVERYTHING I ever thought about doing, and I could see EVERYTHING! I'd probably duplicate something like that if I could.
I'd also have super, super well-built filing cabinets (that looked like fine furniture) that would accommodate 12" paper - that seems to be the hardest thing to store and/or disguise! They would have to be lateral files, too...
Set up zones for the way you craft. Store all adhesives in an area. A die cutting area and so on. It really helps with findings things and putting them away.
I'm not too picky. I would like to fix the chips on my desk so they were gone. LOL Then matching baskets on my bookshelf. And maybe a brighter light so I could photograph my projects at all times of the day. Or maybe a better photo tent set-up.
That's it! I love my space and am so happy with it and lucky to have it.
Most important to me in my craft room would be the layout of the room. I would love it to flow from one work area to another without working around stuff. Each area would have great lighting. My other wish has nothing to do with the actual crafting but I would love to have a great sound system. There is always good surround sound in "man caves" so why not in the craft room? I love to work to music and would greatly enjoy better sound than what comes from the ipad, radio or tv!

Right????? I totally agree...
These are all great suggestions - they are totally helping! Keep 'em coming!
Thanks all!!!!

I would like a work island tall enough to stand up at to stamp or cut paper. I often find it helpful to stand and stamp. Plus I would want tall stools so people could sit at the island and work also. And of course great lighting so I could really see if those colors really do match after all!!!
On the lighting subject, I have two daylight strip lights in my room, and they do make a world of difference. If you change your lighting, do your research first. Daylight strip bulbs come in various 'lumens' and also various 'warmths'. For what we do you want one with a high lumens, but at the cool end of the scale. 'warm' lights alter your colours, which is why normal bulbs distort colour, most general light bulbs have a warm light, for obvious reasons. This site gives a good explanation, and recommendations.
Storage wise, Expedit Cubes, every time. Best storage I ever bought. The internal dimension of each cube is 13" square, so holds pretty much anything. Plus you can have them open, or add doors/draws/boxes to them. They come in an assortment of sizes and colours too. I have a 5x5 and a 4x2. The 4x2 has an (optional) desk attachment you can buy, which I had and has my Big Shot Pro, cuttlebug etc on. The cubes hold all my plates, dies etc.
Space! A space big enough for everything, with room to breathe. I am lucky to have a great craft room but it is crammed full.

Same for me. I'd like to have a room large enough for friends to stamp, better lighting, a huge walk in closet so I could easily get to the things I don't use often but still want to keep.
While we're wishing big I'd like a door to the outside with a beautiful seating area, a mini-refridg, microwave, and coffee pot. Also would like room for my sewing machine with a cutting table. Oh - a confy chair with a lamp for reading and planning.
Hmm... if I had all that I may not ever come out except to the potty which is just next door to my craft room.
What I want: adjustable shelving, lots of light, no carpet, table big enough for at least two people, surround sound, and a bigger room.
Definitely NO carpet! My carpet cleaning guy always has fits when I tell him -- that spot is chalk, oh that's ink .. oh heck I have no idea what that is!!

LOL...now that is funny!

First would be drawers of the right depth to take DVD sized boxes (The same depth works for stickles, ink refills, acrylic paints, punches and heaps of other stuff). Then the boxes to put in them that I would fill with stamps and dies. Maybe some shallower drawers for smaller supplies like embelishments and ribbon and definitely some deep drawers with hanging folders for 12x12 paper
Next an open shelf area, divided for my pencils, pens and markers, ink pads.
I have a good light but I have to admit, I'd like another for different areas.
And finally, a bench to stand at as I often like to work standing up - I get excited and need to move around for some reason.

I would love to have a utility sink in my craft room.
Ditto!! I would also have an island, and many of the other suggestions listed already. I would make everything non-permanent, so I could change my set up and storage as the hobby supplies change.
I have a sweet lady friend who just built a craft cottage. Are you sitting down??? It is 3300 square feet.
Full kitchen, two bedrooms with baths, sitting area, wrap around porch.....she is really going to need all the spacewith all the stuff she has. Everything inside is being custom built. The work stations will be amazing.
I was shocked when sne told me how big it is..lol.
Blessings
I want to be all nasty and say something about wasting money and space... but really, I want to be her friend too.
Everyone in our family dreams of a communal hobby space. Something like a loft room that is big enough for the three of us to have a spot and put a TV on the wall. Somewhere that is outside of 'public space' within the house so we can leave our work out.
If we ever build again and can afford it, we are planning to include something like that but bedrooms as well! OK, that wins hands down.

Um...that's not a "cottage" - that's almost twice the size of my whole house! Is she going to host retreats or something? I'm pretty sure that "amazing" will fall short of describing it when it's done. How fabulous for her! I've often thought that a "folly" in the backyard would be fun - a shed turned into a little studio, sort of like a grown-up playhouse...
