Challenge Title: It's a Cover-Up
Hostess: Sabrina, aka Cook22
Keyword: HYCCT1308
Date: Tuesday, October 8th, 2013
Sadly I have a couple of friends fighting the fight against breast cancer this year.
But like my Chicken SOUP challenge last year, my It's a Cover-Up challenge is inspired by a dear friend who won the fight against breast cancer but lost the battle to secondaries some years ago.
When she was staying with us after her operation, it was only a month or so till her sister's wedding. She was going to be the only bridesmaid, and they had chosen a lovely dress long before cancer reared its ugly head. M was a bit self-conscious about the scar showing, since it was a strappy floral dress. So we went together to the local fabric shop and picked out some lovely cream linen and a pattern for a neat little bolero jacket which I made for her.
She wore it for the service and the photos - but maybe the best thing of all was that as the day wore on she was comfortable and relaxed enough to take it off. It was there for her when she needed the psychological "cover" it gave her, though.
So my challenge is to make a card with a hidden message (or image) which you can uncover by opening a flap or swinging a hinged tag or panel - not just opening the card ;).
Options for making a swinging tag are to use a brad or an eyelet to attach it to the card front, or ribbon as in KelliJo's super sample.

Good morning Sabrina! Interesting challenge and fantastic samples. I have to work today, then have a meeting tonight, so I might not get this one made until Wednesday.
Ummm? Sentiment not on the INSIDE of the card but hidden somehow? Very interesting! Have a TOPS meeting this morning so it will be a little later before I can make my card for this challenge......
Sabrina, your story has brought tears to my eyes! I think I have just the idea for this one. I hope I can get to it today. Thanks for the challenge and the inspiration.

There's nothing to say you can't also have a sentiment on the inside - but just opening a regular folded card doesn't count as a cover-up job ;). There has to be something that keeps your sentiment or image covered up compared to a normal card.
You are such a wonderful person and friend Sabrina!! I loved reading your story. Thank for sharing even more information about yourself that further confirms the love you have. It's wonderful that you know how to sew and put it to very good use.
Hi, Sabrina. I love your story and thank you for sharing it with us. I went with a flap style card. The inside would hold your sentiment, although I did stamp something on the outside too. I hope this is what you had in mind! Thanks for a great challenge for us today. Can't wait to see what everyone creates for you.

Sabrina- great challenge, thanks! I used SU's Take It to Heart for my heart image with the kids on the bike, and the You Are Loved for my sentiment, under the top flap. Here's my card-outside flap view and here's the inside flap view

Great story Sabrina. I hope one day that we're all be able to wear our scars (or whatever we have and shouldn't be ashamed of) like badges of honor to show the rest of the world that we're survivors.
This weekend I was part of a group photo. I think for the first time in my life I didn't try to get in the back of someone else and didn't care that my fat body was out in the front. Geez, it only took 61 years to get to this point.
I started out trying to make a slider card (no go). Then tried making a small envelope to put on the front of a card. Didn't like that. So.....a pocket card.

Wow - there have been some fantastic cards so far - you've all come up trumps.
It's bedtime this side of the Atlantic but I'll be looking forward to seeing what else has arrived in the gallery when I look tomorrow morning.
I think you all deserve some cookies . 549072tuebtovzvn_zps30b5c9ac.gif
Sabrina, here's my card . I pray over my cards before they are put in the envelope they will be sent in. Thanks for this challenge, I've never done this kind of flap card before.
