Default stamping and using gold flakes...

I bought a small bag of gold flakes at a convention a year or so ago and cannot remember for the life of me what was used on the stamp that made the flakes stick. I tried using versa mark(?) and that didn't work...maybe needed to use more? Once you pat the flakes on to the stamped image, you brush off the excess and have a beautiful stamped image. Can anyone help me with this?
thanks!

You need something sticky rather than just Versamark. You could try with a glue pad but you'll probably get better results with one of the embossing powders that's designed to go sticky when heated. I think SU! does one but I don't know what it's called -- maybe somebody can fill in that info if you're an SU person. Stampendous make one called Stamp n Bond (this stuff) that I've used and it works well.

I think that you are thinking about Heat & Stick embossing powder or the Stampendous Stamp n Bond, like Angelnorth suggested. It acts like regular embossing powder, EXCEPT, after a brief heating, it's sticky and then you can add stuff like flakes or glitter. If you don't need a detailed image to stick the flakes to, such as a large area, you can just use white craft glue. Any type would work.

Default Try Flitterglu

The very best product for this is a British product sold by Indigo Blu called Flitter Glue.
www.indigoblu.com | IndigoBlu
an example from their blog is here
clare aug challenge | IndigoBlu ? Quintessentially English Rubber Stamps
It also works great with mica powders.

NOT cheap!

You can also try Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE). One trick I learned is to heat it from underneath so the flakes don't fly around.

I just went to a stamp show and the demonstrator from QKR Stampede stamped the image with versamark, sprinkled it with Sticky embossing powder and heated it until it just turned clear before dusting it with the gold leaf flakes which she brushed off with a stubby brush.

I'm an SU demo and the product is called Heat & Stick powder - turns sticky when heated with heat gun and is sprinkled over a versamarked image - it comes in a little pot like embossing powder and in the UK is 3.75 for 14g pot. if you want a catalogue let me know Daily Stampin Up creative inspiration, ideas & supplies from Lisa Barton, Vintage Celebrations

Heat and Stick is the one SU product and it works brilliantly for glitter too.
