I have been hearing really good things about the SU paper trimmer and would love to try it, but I have never had good luck with that type of trimmer (I have always used a guillotine). Recently, I purchased a Fiskar trimmer similar to SU's trimmer, and it leaves a ridge on the cut edge. I even tried a new blade. Is it just me:( Is the blade on SU's different than the Fiskar? Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

I would also appreciate any response here. I have tried a few different trimmers and have a terrible time with getting a straight cut, always seem to end up slightly crooked and heard that the SU trimmer has a guide wire. Hope you dont mind me jumping into this query with you, this is the first time I have asked a question and not sure of etiquet. Cheers

I'm also jumping in. I've sorta come to the conclusion that trimmers will just have to be replaced every few years. I can't ever find the right blade for my trimmers. I have several of them and a handful of blades and nothing goes together to give me the perfect cut I'm looking for.
I'm too cheap to spend a lot of money on a professional trimmer (yes, I know buying a $30 cutter every 2 years adds up) and so I've been looking at the SU trimmer. I've read some good reviews on this board and I just signed up for a SU stamping club, so I'll have to be sure to use it there a few times. I'll try to remember to come back here and let you know what I think.
Th SU trimmer doesn't have a guide wire. But there is a strip that sits in the base that has ridged edge to guide the cutting blade. There is also a new rotary attachment for it, but I don't have that yet.
Here's my assessment of the new SU Trimmer. A little background before I begin - I wanted/needed a lightweight, versatile, accurate trimmer to take RVing. I use a Genesis as my main trimmer at home with a guillotine cutter for heavier card stock.
Anyway, here's what I discovered after using the SU trimmer. It is the most accurate trimmer of this type I have ever used (I have an array of Fiskars in my collection!), it cuts a true square cut because I checked it on my Genesis. It does leave that annoying ridge on the back edge of the cs, which is really only annoying when it gets flipped on a project and faces up. :(
I intend on ordering the rotary attachment to see if that does away with the ridge. I am hoping that the it will maintain the accuracy that the other blade attachment achieved. I will be watching to hear reports on that aspect of the rotary feature.
All in all, the SU trimmer is a dandy little guy with lots of nice features and the price is not out of line for what it offers the user. :cool:
I don't work for Creative Memories, but their 5x7 cutter is the ONLY cutter I've ever owned that cuts straight and doesn't leave a frayed edge. I had more Fiskers than I care to admit and I won't buy them again for that exact reason. I've used the same CM cutter for 15 years and have made millions of cards (literally!) and it still cuts sharp just like the day I bought it.
Found a Stampin Up-like cutter at a church/school garage sale for $5 and use that to cut larger paper down to size.
I wish Fiskars made a rotary trimmer the same size as the SU one. What they currently have are either too small or too large. DH would think I'd lost my mind if I said I wanted a Genisis! I've considered the SU trimmer but I like being able to get refill blades locallyand with coupons.
If you get the SU trimmer, get the rotary blade kit....it's a super clean cut and with a couple of exceptions, you won't go back to the other blade.
Thanks for the report on the rotary attachment, I definitely will order it now! From what I understand, I will need to rotate the cutting strip piece to a different cutting surface for the rotary cutting blade. Is this so? I guess my real question is, do I need to order a different, special cutting strip when I order the rotary blade attachment? I want to have all the parts and pieces so I can use it right away.

I have the guillotine trimmer & the latest SU trimmer. I really like the latest trimmer. Easy to use & cuts great. Only issue I'm having is using the scoring blade. When I try to score card stock the "nub" barely touches the card stock. Is this how it's suppose to be or does your scoring blade touch the paper?
one of the reasons I got the SU trimmer was the ability to 'park' the scoring blade while using the cutting blade and vice versa. I assume you can't do this with the rotary blade?
