Ready for a new Mix-Ability challenge?!! We hope you're having fun with these! Our goal is to make mixed media, easy, approachable and FUN! We want to convince you that no matter what your style is - you can DO it!
This week I want to challenge you to use air to move color on your project.
There are so many ways this can be done! Here are a few ideas:
1. Blowing bubbles to create a background (put a little dish soap, ink, and water in a container, blow bubbles through a straw till the bubbles raise above the edge of your container, then catch them on your cardstock!) - demonstrated in the video below...
2. Load up some watered down paint or ink on your paper, then blow it around with a straw.
If you want to start these challenges in the pages of an art journal instead of a card, or on scrapbook pages, or on 3D items - please know - ANYTHING is welcome! We want you to learn and enjoy!
Please remember to put in the correct keyword (MIX28) when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos. Then come back to this thread and paste a link to the card in your gallery so we can all ooh and ahhh!
Oh, this sounds like fun Dina! I do believe I have some Blo-pens somewhere if I could find them. I know I have compressed air - I've tried it with alcohol inks. I'm going to try to play quickly when I get home, before we have to leave for the weekend.
Fun challenge Dina! Thanks for your tutorial! I laughed at Daddy Daycare. I have not seen that one. I REMEMBER this episode from Little Rascals. My sister watched that show a lot! You have definitely given me a grin to start my day! And yah, it's 11am and it actually started at 6am but I am finally home again and GETTING started on my "indoor" day now!
Fun challenge, Dina. I'm sharing a card that I created for June's VSN using a straw to move the ink. I will be back after work tonight with another card as well!
This is not gonna happen for me. I made a disaster trying these techniques and they do not work for me. Sorry maybe next week challenge I can play.

I learned from previous Mix-Ability challenges that there is one tool that is an absolute MUST HAVE! Plastic coated freezer paper to use as a work surface!! Made this project a breeze (pun intended) to clean up! Here's MY CARD.

For the record, I tried! I really did!!
Got home from work, tried the bubbles ( I watched the video with breakfast).
One wet sheet of card, no colour...
Found my compressed air and used watercolour on wet watercolour paper, ended up with something so-so, from which I die-cut a little Christmas tree. Decided it was a bit hard to see that I had blown my paints on it, so I got out a homemade stencil from an earlier MIX challenge and sprayed a kraft tag in silver and gold with the only aersol paints I have. Looking better...
And then I had an accident (first in a long time) with a bottle of re-inker. Because the gold and silver acted as resist I used the air to blow some of the re-inker around the tag and can probably re-use it when I get home again, but by the time I'd tidied all that mess up and washed the ink off everything, it was time to pack and leave the house tidy.
I have to say this challenge was a blast... well if I had had something to blast it with other than just my own hot air it would have been even better. I choose to blow watercolor paint with a straw. You have to look really closely on my UGLY card to see it. I used a page from an encyclopedia, stamped it and then blew the paint.
I need to find me a blow pen!! I just blew on the water and ink on my panel - but I love how it came out - I've done the blowing with the straw and wanted to try something else - Still have to try the ink on the bubbles though!!!

I realized I hadn't done quite the proper technique on my card above - so I went back into the craft room and did a redo -
this time I brushed water onto the card - then dropped drops of reinkers into the water - (rather than waterbrushing it on!) and then blew the ink with my mouth

I want to play this challenge again but I had fun using the blowing technique to create my card. After all I did to the background panel you really can't see the blowing but I started with red water color at the bottom and added yellow reinker at the top and blew. When I was done using the drywall tape, I liked it standing vertical so the yellow reinker is now on the left side instead of top. Super fun challenge that I will play again!
After much thought I decided to post this anyway... Loved that video of the Tree Branch but could not produce the fine hair line branches... even by turning 40 shades of purple...LOL.... Just too old I guess.. LOL..
