/ahhhh but then I didn't grow up in Western Kansas Jeanette.....the circle irrigation systems have pulled so much water out of the aquifer that there is not enough left on top to make surface water (like rivers and creeks.) But where I grew up in south central Kansas,,,my little home town had 3 creeks making borders around the town area....Kiowa Creek, Calvary Creek, and Bluff Creek---local folk lore says the creeks protected the town from tornadoes....and to my knowledge the town itself has never been hit by any...the fact that that town is also down in a small valley while the farmland and ranches are up a bit may also contribute to the folk lore.
