Default Question about SU! black EP

I just got the SU! black detail EP. I tried to use it tonight, and it leaves so much black dust on white cardstock that it turned it gray. It wouldn't rub off either. I tried it with and without the embossing buddy. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you resolve it?

1st off-I try to not touch the cs at all-or if I do I touch only the edges. After shaking the ep off (and I flick the back, too) , I use a little brush to get the extra specks off.

Thanks for being so quick Britta. It's not flecks of EP that I'm having problems with. It's actually black dust that comes out with the little granules. The EP sticks to the versamark, but the black dust sticks to everything else. The paper looks like it's been fingerprinted, but no prints were found. I've been embossing for at least 10 years and have never had anything like this happen.

I just used my detail black ep for the first time tonight and had the same thing happen to me! I've been using embossing powder for years and have never seen this before! Dust all over the page. I was embossing with versamark on white card stock. Made the page look dirty.

Also, I could see the powder melting with the embossing gun, but after it was embossed, the image didn't "feel" raised like it does with other eps.

I put the project aside and haven't had time to go back to it tonight, but would be interested to hear if anyone else is having any issues with this particular ep. And suggestions.

Interesting. Have you tried blowing on the image before heating it? I have some embossing powder that requires this technique. Short bursts of breath like blowing out candles.

All of you ladies are brave for using BLACK EP!!! I used it three times in my life and had the same problems you have described....

Now when I want to emboss in black, I stamp in black ink and emboss with clear...It will appear to be black but there will not be the mess!

Good luck!

Yes, I tried blowing, but the dust sticks to the paper like there's glue on it. I have noticed this with the copper EP also, but it just leaves sparkly copper dust on the paper, and I can live with that.

My image wasn't raised either. I'm going to call DS in the morning and see what they have to say. I'm glad it's not just me.

I made my 2003 Thanksgiving cards using SU detail black embossing powder and had no problem. I had ordered it last Oct 2003. I would definately call SU and report the problem you are having.

Just thought I'd let you guys know, I just got off the phone with DS and they're replacing the EP for me. They said it definitely shouldn't be working that way.

Wow...I just made something last night for the first time with the Black EP and that happend to me too. I thought I was doing something wrong...I blew on it and tried to dust it off but it wouldn't go away...and of course once you use the heating tool it for sure won't come off. It left this black film everywhere...all over the image and all over my work space.

:(

I have had this problem before when I used black EP from Hobby Lobby. I bought the SU one and it didn't leave that dust behind...just the granules where I wanted it. Which makes me wonder...maybe you ladies got the EP from the bottom of the barrel. You know, like all the sugar at the bottom of a cereal box? Maybe it's the luck of the draw??

I have the same problem when I use it on US White. But when I use it on Naturals White (or anything but US), it works just fine. So I've simply adjusted my preferred cardstock for this purpose.
