It's time for another Mix-Ability challenge here on Splitcoast! Our goal is to make mixed media, easy, approachable and FUN! We want to convince you that no matter what your style is - YOU CAN DO IT!
If you want to start these challenges in the pages of an art journal, instead of a card, or on scrapbook pages, or on 3D items - please know - ANYTHING is welcome! We want you to learn and enjoy!
Have you ever had a craftastrophy? Let's turn it into a FLOPPORTUNITY!
Debbie Olson was my instructor for Copic Certification. She is excellent, and one thing she said stuck with me: we are sometimes TOO scared of those bright colors. Yeah - we go at new things hesitantly and with the pale colors because we are afraid to mess up.
So, let's mess up with grand intentions! Then, we can learn how to pull it back a notch, just in case. I always like to have a back up plan!
Use the boldest colors you have at hand. Once you've made a great hoopla of a mess, gently tone it back down with gesso, watered down white acrylic ink, or similar choices. Be brave!
Then use it as your background for your project, or the backdrop for a stunning focal piece. The most important part is to have FUN with your project!
Please remember to put in the correct keyword (MIX21) when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to be sure to get it into the gallery. Then come back to this thread and paste a link to the card in your gallery so we can have a look-see!

Oh this sounds fun! Excellent Video Ky!! Gonna try to play today AND get it uploaded to the gallery...I'm bad about not doing that, lol! Gorgeous samples ladies !
I didn't get last week's challenge done :( - just way too busy and not at home enough. I have ideas for this week's challenge and perhaps will be able to finish both before next Friday.
The video is fabulous!! Thanks for all the great tips! I hope to play this challenge soon! DH is home on his last day of summer vacation today so I don't think I am going to get to play today but I hope to soon!!! Thanks for great challenge!
Oh wow - you ladies ROCK! Thank you so much for your comments on the video. I learned a lot doing this one, so the next one will be better. I can't wait to go through the gallery and enjoy all of your beautiful work!

Well, I haven't played with this at all, but wanted to thank you for the very cool & insightful video! I just might have to give this style a bit of a whirl here in the studio, thanks to you! ;)
This one was fun! I would have been done yesterday except I had to make three different focal images and then dither over which to use, which wasn't the fun-est part, but then I bring do these moments of anguish on myself, don't I.

Thanks for teaching me again this week. The videos really help. I was able to use all SU! product, even though we don't carry gesso. I used craft white mixed with a little water and it worked well as a wash.
I have enjoyed this challenge so much that I have played with it all this week! I made another card which at first I wasn't sure I liked but the more I look at it, I really do!

Tangi, I feel the same way! For some reason this particular technique has really caught me and I can't seem to make a mixed media without it! It's so soothing to paint the gesso on over the color!!! So forgiving, make a mistake? No problem dab on some gesso!
